Roto Riteup: July 15, 2017

He’s back!

Mike Trout has returned after a 39-game absence, collecting a hit and stolen base (which included a headfirst slide into second) to continue what has been his best season yet… which is absolutely insane.

On the Agenda:

  • Potential Trade Candidates Pitch Well
  • Sanchez Bounces Back
  • The Knuckler is Fluttering
  • Harper and Puig Double Up
  • Kevin Gascan Returns

Paul Sporer Baseball Chat – July 14th, 2017

2:32
Paul Sporer: My SP rankings are updated, let’s talk some baseball!!

2:32
Bob: Hey Paul!  Thanks for the rankings update.  I was offered Yu for my GCole and Arrieta in a QS league.  Take it?

2:33
Paul Sporer: No problem! I might do that in a shallower league, but it’s steep

2:33
Hans Kluber: Why did Danny Duffy’s RoS suddenly change dramatically for ERA?

2:33
Paul Sporer: Not sure

2:33
brad: Thanks for sp rankings and back to back chats.  How come Rg hasn’t been doing rankings on other positions?  thanks.

Starting Pitcher Rankings Update – July

Here is my latest starting pitcher rankings update! Keep in mind that this is a narrower focus than just “rest of season” as I’ll be updating these again in mid-to-late August for the stretch run. Pitching is just too volatile to have confidence in a single ranking set for more than 4-6 weeks at a time. The tiers are what’s important.

I’ll reiterate again that the Must-Starts aren’t automatically the best pitchers, but rather the guys that you can’t sit with any confidence (they don’t have a platoon split or home-road split and their track record speaks more than the first three months of this season. Please leave your questions and comments below!

Paul Sporer Baseball Chat – July 13th, 2017

Chat transcript is below!

11:07

Paul Sporer: Good morning! I’m filling in for Eno today and still doing my normal chat tomorrow! This one will be a regular one (about an hour), but then a marathon tomorrow

11:07

Nick: With the Cubs trade….do the Cardinals respond? And if so who do they target?

11:07

Paul Sporer: I doubt they respond with a blockbuster, tbh

11:07

Jay: Should I sell high on Chris Taylor or do you think he’ll be productive in 2nd half? (Projections say he’ll be below league average). I could get Gerritt Cole for him.

11:07

Paul Sporer: I’d get Cole for sure

11:08

Kevin: Offered Yoan Moncada for Sandy Alcantara and Strasburg in a keeper league….with Moncada not breaking out at AAA should I pass?

Paul Sporer Baseball Chat – July 7th, 2017

Chat transcript is below!

2:05

Paul Sporer: What is up everyone!! Gotta do a tight hour today, so let’s get going.

2:05

Wally the Green Monster: K. Broxton and E. Suarez for T. Frazier.  Who wins that trade?  (the team with Frazier needs SBs and has other 3B)

2:05

Paul Sporer: Think I prefer side A, but I think Frazier will be solid rest of season

2:07

Tom: Bruce Rondon has 5 shutout innings since his recall, and all in the 8th inning – 1 win, 3 holds.  Is he looking as good as these results, and is he now the guy to stash anticipating a Justin Wilson trade?

2:08

Paul Sporer: I think he is the stash if you’re worried about a Wilson trade, but I’ve fallen for him many a time

2:08

Bernie Brewer: I have Schwarber.  I’m not sure what to expect with his return.  I was offered Duda and Mancini for him.  Should I accept that?

Roto Riteup: July 7, 2017

No one has a chance against Mike Foltynewicz when he’s got 97 with armside run:

He was fantastic against the Nats (6 IP/2 ER/5 K), running his streak to four straight gems (2.16 ERA, 26 Ks in 25 IP). Going back to the start of June adds in a 3.3 IP/8 ER dud against the same Nats team, but still only pushes his ERA to 2.98 with a 1.25 WHIP, 23% K, and 9% BB in 42.3 IP.

On the Agenda:

  • Final Vote Winners
  • Faria’s For Real
  • Anibal the Animal
  • Lamet’s Lament
  • Ray & Hill Duel

Tipping Pitches: On Newcomb and Castillo

Sean Newcomb finally had his first bad start of the season and unsurprisingly it came against the Houston Astros. They are third in wOBA against lefties at .347 and also have the third-lowest strikeout rate at 17%, a tough combo for the 24-year old rookie. Newcomb has actually shown a reverse platoon this year so six of the eight batters coming from the right side wasn’t necessarily a warning sign. Being Astros was the warning sign, let’s be real.
