You guys are out and about. We guys are out and about. In between, we can help answer your fantasy baseball trade questions. Please tell us the settings in your league in a succinct way, as well as give us some idea of your team strengths. Without writing a novel!
You’ll get a response from me or one of our great RotoGraphs staff members for your trouble.
With a phone full of pictures of pitchers' fingers, strange beers, and his two toddler sons, Eno Sarris can be found at the ballpark or a brewery most days. Read him here, writing about the A's or Giants at The Athletic, or about beer at October. Follow him on Twitter @enosarris if you can handle the sandwiches and inanity.
12 tm mixed. Better short term CI: Medica or Parmelee? Also, thoughts on Vogt ROS? Thanks!
I doubt any of these guys are 12-team mixers. I know they aren’t. You can’t do better? Parmelee over Medica though.
I traded Aybar ($12) and Odorizzi ($10) for Ryan Zimmerman ($24) in an AL only league. 2 Days prior, I picked up Mookie Betts (2 days before he got the call). I felt like I had an “In” with the Red Sox front office since i predicted he would be getting the call soon. Good trade? I have no intentions of protecting Zim, nor did I have intentions of protecting Aybar or Odorizzi. I can protect Betts now for $10.
How is Zim in an AL only league?
sorry, AL only league, plus Nats and Dodgers (we added a few more teams in the off season, so we had to add to the player pool) didn’t mean to confuse anyone 🙂 Thanks!
added Nats and Dodgers? Thoroughly confusing.
long story, people like star power, i wanted the pirates or braves as we live on the east coast, oh well.
Yes, fine trade.
Stats question: Is there a convenient way to get at a hitter’s stats only in games where the initial starting pitcher throws from a particular side?
This isn’t quite the same as LHP/RHP splits, since relief pitchers that replace the original starter may throw from a different side.
The overall question I’m trying to answer: If I were to start Player X, who kills LHP but is weak against RHP, in every game where the opposing starter is a LHP, what would his stats be (taking into account that he’ll probably log a few AB against RHP in a relief capacity)?
B-ref tracks starters and all pitchers. Here is a link to Miguel Cabera’s page:
http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/split.cgi?id=cabremi01&year=Career&t=b#plato
Awesome. Thanks! Now I can figure out whether it’s really worth my time to spot-start John Mayberry against lefties. 🙂
Finally punting steals after being in last all year. Traded Brett Gardner for Melky, good value?
Even value. I hate punting a category though.
With McCann strugling this season, who do you see producing more down the stretch, Devin Mesoraco or McCann? I feel they are similar players (If McCann was playing like normal).
Was going to say McCann for homers and Mes for batting average, but with the changes Mes has made http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/fg-on-fox-devin-mesoracos-delayed-breakout/ I think I take Mesoraco.
8-team keeper. AVG & OPS league. Ian Kennedy just got dropped. Should I drop Neil Walker to pick him up?
Right now only have 5 starters and am a little under the IP limit pace. Already have Kipnis + Rendon so Walker is strictly bench/Util guy for me.
I don’t think Kennedy is an eight-teamer. He has homer problems and is only really trustable at home now that it’s homer part of season (they peak with the weather).
espn standard 10 team roto. i have a loaded outfield, still need to make up ground in RBI’s SB ERA and whip. Taveras or Betts would be on bench in daily league. smarter to drop one of them and pick up SP?:
Hahn, Cobb, kuechel, Ventura, kennedy. I have Taijuan, but dont want to drop him? who, if any would you pick up and for whom? thanks for the help!
Betts fits your needs more, and it’s slightly useful to have an extra SS/OF on your bench.
12-team mixed points league, ROS rank:
Dez Jennings, Starling Marte, Mookie Betts, Leonys Martin
Also, Everth Cabrera drop-able at this point? I also have Desmond and Xander at SS.
I like the order you have those guys in.
Cut Everth.
Does Domingo Santana stay called-up and does he have George Springer-esque potential … or is he more Drew Stubbs?
Springer lite. More risk, more bust rate, similar skills.
Should I trade Belt and Carpenter for Altuve? How good will Altuve be over the next 5ish years?
10 team H2H dynasty; you can keep your entire roster as long as you want.
I think Altuve can .300/10/35 even in the bad years, and he’s likely to be the best of the three if that’s the case.
12 team mixed league with traditional 5×5 scoring.
Is it worth rostering Heaney, Gausman, or Alex Meyer full time for an upside play or should I be using the spot to stream? I already have the largest number of pitchers in the league so I need the help on ERA/WHIP more than the other stats.
stream, I guess.
rookies always risky and there are probably some matchup plays even in this three (Heaney at home, Gaus on road, etc.)
Redraft league, 8 by 8. The offensive categories are runs, RBI, steals, HR, singles, doubles, triples, walks. Huge benches.
Gregory Polanco HAS to be more valuable ROS than Desmond Jennings, right? Jennings doesn’t have the hit tool, yes? I have both and am shopping Jennings, but I do feel a little gunshy.
You’re doing the right thing, IMO. I like Jennings, but .270 is about the best you can expect.
Hi guys. 11-team roto 5×5. Saves are at a premium. I have Holland, K. Jansen, & Paplebon. I lead the league in power, 2nd in saves, but am near last in SB & Avg. My MI needs work as I have Kipnis, B. Miller, & Peralta. Is Holland & Paplebon enough to get Jose Altuve if the Altuve owner also owns D. Murphy, Hanley, A. Ramirez, & Josh Harrison at MI? Kipnis & Holland too much?
Rather do H&P and go get saves on wire. Doesn’t seem too much, might not be enough, but could be.
I traded Matt Holliday and James Shields for Carlos Gonzalez right after he went down with his finger injury. 10 team HtH. My other starters were and are: Garrett Richards, Dallas Keuchel, Jordan Zimmermann, Hyin-Jin Ryu,Alex Wood and Hisashi Iwakuma and my other outfielders are Carlos Gomez (traded Sale and Kluber for him), Andrew McCutchen and Brandon Moss.
I kind of just want to know what your opinion is on this trade in general and what your thoughts on CarGo is going forward and if keeping him is a good idea (probably too early to say at this point, I guess.)
Dunno how many keepers you have, but I still like him. LIke the trade. You’re fine even if you don’t keep him.
12 team keeper H-2-H, adds OPS to the batter categories. Two UTIL spots. Have Kipnis and Neil Walker expiring. Have Wong at $1, Odor at $2. Five players currently on the DL (CarGo, Belt, Holland, Wong, Owings). Five games separate third (me) from ninth.
Which of Wong or Odor, rest of the season? Which is the better long-term bet?
Thanks!
I like odor better this season, but his job security next year means wong is ahead.
Hello! I’m in a 14-Team Mixed Keeper League. Can we talk about Brandon McCarthy. The dude is bewildering this year, particularly with his 2.91 xFIP (11th MLB) and 3.01 SIERA (16th MLB) being masked by a 5.11 ERA. I get it – It’s the home runs; however, do you anticipate a correction if/when B-Mac gets traded? And if so, would you drop Collin McHugh or Jon Niese for him?
Rather have your guys. Absence of change means lefties like him too much.
What kind of return can I expect for Dylan Bundy in a 30 Team dynasty league?
Might be lucky to get a useful ok guy like Leonys Martin for him. Still selling a bit low. Not in bigs yet.
10 Team mixed 5×5 roto
I need HRs.
2 part question.
1. is Chris Davis going to turn it around?
2. If so, would 1 or more of the below to get Chris Davis?
Latos, A. Sanchez, Hamels, G. Cole, Sonny Gray, Greinke
Thanks
Yes (not in batting ave necessarily). I’d like to trade latos Sanchez hamels in that order.
Thanks for the advice and taking the time today.
Standard 12 5×5 Roto Keeper League. Hi guys, picked up James Jones for SBs but need serious help in SB, R, Avg. still. I’m flush with power & need some MI help. Which of these sluggers do I move?: Oriz, Longo, C. Santana, Mesoraco, Cruz, Rios, Dickerson, Ozuna, or LaRoche?
Offer either Papi or LaRoche to trade partners, and let them choose who they want more. People like choices.
Or try to move LaRoche and Ortiz together.
Does it make sense to platoon Coco Crisp and Stubbs in a daily-lineups league that uses TB/RBI/R/SB/OBP? If so, how should I do it?
Should I just start Stubbs every day he gets a start at home, and use Coco when when Stubbs isn’t in the lineup or the Rockies are on the road? Beyond the likelihood of them being in the lineup, should I factor in the handedness of the opposing starting pitcher?
I’d start Stubbs only when handedness and park favor him.
I’m in an extremely deep 5×5 league and in dire need of pitching. I have Trevor May stashed in hopes of him being called up, is there any chance of this soon? Are there any other pitchers I should stash?
May probably ahead of Meyer. I like kingham in Pitt.
Standard 12×12 Roto league with K/9 instead of Ks. His Arrenado & Alcides for my Carlos Santana? I have Mesoraco. Thank You!!
Yes
Whats the story with your hair?
It’s curly! I have a choice between Kenny G and Malcolm Gladwell or a fro.
Have David Wright on the shelf, and my options are either:
a) Pick up a 3B (Dominguez, Plouffe)
b) Play Carlos Santana at 3B and pick up a catcher (Jaso, Zunino, Navarro, Ramos)
12*mixed, OBP/SLG league if that makes a difference
Thanks!
Ramos or jaso, probably. Jaso for obp if that’s a need.
For a dynasty league (standard settings) can you please rank the following pitchers? Teheran, Ryu, G. Cole, Gausman, Wacha, Wheeler, Alex Wood. Thank you.
So this prospect named Manny Ramirez (sp?) hit a homer for the Cubs AAA team last night. Should I add him in my defensive stats only league???
^asking for a friend

Standard 5×5 Roto league with K/9 instead of Ks, I’m middle of the pack in ERA & WHIP, last in Wins, 2nd in power, 3rd in RBIs. Is David Ortiz and Keuchel enough to get Trevor Rosenthal, Garrett Richards, & Doug Fister from him? Aim higher? He also has Teheran, Porcello, and Soria.
I’d seriously doubt it. But worse trades have been accepted I suppose.
trying to pick up a SP in an ottoneu points league. looking for quality innings rather than just quantity. pick 1 or 2 the following free agents for the rest of the season:
Duffy, Roark, Beckett, Cosart, Simon
thanks!
Beckett and Roark. I like that they pitch in situations that will depress their homers.
20 team 5×5 roto
1. Would you start Marco Gonzales against the Giants today?
2. Workman against the Cubs tomorrow?
No. Yes!
12 team 5×5 roto keeper league with 1400 Innings Cap. Was offered D. Wright & Garrett Richards for my Longo. I’m last in Wins, 3rd in K/9, and have Miggy, Laroche, Duda, and C. Santana at the corners. He has Teheran, Phil Hughes, and Roark in the alternative.
Who’s your worst pitcher is most relevant here, probably. If you can win this year, it’s fine, but don’t expect much from Wright. Maybe Wright is a keeper next year? If you can’t, Longo vs. Wright as keepers, given that you have no dependable 3B after this season otherwise. (Don’t count on Santana long-term, and prefer to use at C.)
Does Dallas Keuchel have any juice left? In my 10-team redraft points league with shallow benches and tons of decent arms on the wire that can be spot started (Ventura, Hahn, Heaney, T Walker, Leake, Quintana, and on and on) is he expendable if I were looking to add a hot bat? More generally, given how many good arms float on the wire in such a shallow league, how many of my 4 bench spots should I be devoting to pitchers? (I currently own Felix, Greinke, Kluber, A Wood, Arrieta, Keuchel and Leake for a spot start today. I have only one offensive guy on my bench.)
For clarity, right now I’m rolling with 6 regular SPs and a streamer spot, which allows only one bench guy on offense. (We have a cap on starts, so I can’t just rack up the points all season long.) My thought is that I drop Keuchel and roll with 5 SPs and a streamer spot. Just can’t bring myself to drop him.
It took me a while too, but I did it today. The injury to Gattis forced my hand.
If you have so many options available to stream, then it seems more than viable to drop Keuchel. What’s your pace for GS? Streaming may be the better bet to catch up with that kind of quality available, and having fewer SPs, with only the top quality on your roster, the better bet if you’re ahead of the pace.
10 team, 30 roster, 10 keepers, 4 DL, 1 NA; but none of that matters – what’s wrong with Crush? LD% is awesome, power is still there, BABIP is terrible, contact isn’t much different last I checked, am I waiting on a crazy good month? Does the problem run deeper (that oblique ain’t fixed!)?
Thanks!
i just traded for davis because it seems to be mostly babip luck that’s killing his value right now. take a look at his 2nd half last year and what he’s doing this year. similar plate discipline and batted ball profile… that’s what you should expect ROS and the projections agree.
For simplicity’s sake, I’ll agree with stonepie. I’m encouraged by some plate discipline #s and think it’s just the pitfall of a guy who makes contact that infrequently. Good week, month, more seems likely at some point.
Is Jose ALtuve only a 2 category contributor going forward? (I know they are a great 2 tricks but where are the Runs scored?.)
HOU offense is improving, but not one of the league’s best. Still, he’s on pace for a pretty good #, around 75 or 80. That’s not as bad as you seem to think.
*For a 2-trick, leadoff guy.
Quintana, Stroman or Skaggs ROS? 12 team mixed 5×5
Stroman, most upside and likely to have the best K rate
I like Stroman, but I think the safest bet without sacrificing much – if anything – is Quintana.
Ros Bundy vs gausman?
Gausman, Bundy coming back from TJ
Agreed, easily
For H2H (Wins, Ks, ERA, WHIP, Saves, Holds, K/BB), I own Scherzer, Cobb, Gray, Arrieta, Hahn, Hughes, Lackey, and Peralta. Should I drop one of them for Ervin Santana who is on the wire?
No, don’t think so. Big Erv deserves to be owned, likely, though. Hughes corrections have begun, I think that’s your first move. On second thought, I’d probably go ahead and do that one.
I’m 1 of 4 teams with a chance in a top heavy Ottoneu trad. 5×5. 2 places I need help are RP(closer) and OF where Austin Jackson is killing me. Have received 2 offers for my $6 Kris Bryant: their $3 Brandon Moss or $2 Joc Pederson and $3 Doolittle. Anyone make these deals or wait on Jackson?
I worry about Doolittle. I like Moss and Pederson at those prices, but I’d have a hard time giving up Bryant for either.
12 team league 5×5
I’m strong in hitting, but far behind in ERA and WHIP. My best pitchers are Shields, Cole, Cashner and Bailey.
Infield: Tulo, C. Davis, Rizzo, Frazier, Arenado, Lucroy, Pedroia
OF: Stanton, Harper, Heyward, Marte, Taveras
Who do you think are the best trade options to bring in some starting pitchers? Thanks!
if you can get top dollar for Frazier, I’d start there. But it would need to be a bona fide top starter. Arenado can slide to 3B. Love Frazier, but we’re at the half way point of a career season, and I’m not so sure this pace is something he can keep up. You won’t get value for Davis, Marte, Pedroia at this point, but if someone would take them off your hands it might allow you to keep Frazier around.
Asking for a friend…. Is it too early to punt wins if you are last in the category but only 10 Wins off of second? 5×5 roto, 12 team. My staff is Kluber, Latos, Kazmir, Keuchel, Cashner, Chavez & McHugh. All above average pitchers in my K/9 league but don’t earn any wins. Last night alone, Kaz, Latos, and Kluber allowed 3 ER over 19 innings and all 3 lost. What to do?
Wins are hard enough to come by but when you’re pitching for sub-500 teams, even tougher. Look for some decent buy-low opportunities for guys like Iwakuma or maybe an Ian Kennedy, who will likely be dealt to a contender. Punting wins means what — go all relievers and drive down the ERA/WHIP and make a run for saves? Because you’re probably punting K’s then too.
What’s your take on Mat Latos’ 2-3 mph dip in velocity? Is it early season rust, is he injured, or has he altered his approach, trying to learn to be a pitcher more than a thrower? He’s pitched pretty decent so far. I’m just wondering if I should hold or sell high.
I was just looking at this myself. All I can say is his velocity through his first 4 starts is very similar to his first 4 starts last year.
http://www.fangraphs.com/pitchfxo.aspx?playerid=3815&position=P&pitch=FA
I’m going to side cautiously there with the data Clark D links and say to be patient, although I have been a bit concerned about this season would turn out for him.
http://www.brooksbaseball.net/velo.php?player=502009&b_hand=-1&time=inning&minmax=ci&var=mph&s_type=2&gFilt=&pFilt=FA|SI|FC|CU|SL|CS|KN|CH|FS|SB&startDate=01/01/2014&endDate=01/01/2015
Part has to be something to do with time taken to build up. Indicative of something else, can’t be certain. Jeff Zimmerman isn’t optimistic. It’s a gamble, I’m willing to wait a bit, depends on what’s available to you on wire or in trade.
What would be a good hitter to target if trading Iwakuma in a 16-team mixed league? I am in need of SB and OBP.
well, Carlos Gomez and Ellsbury leap to mind, but they’ll cost more than ‘Kuma. See if you can package.
12 team h2h, 5×5 standard categories. I’m doing well in steals and BA, need HR’s.
I’m currently playing Aybar, but Asdrubal is available on the wire. Who do you like better the rest of the way?
Using CJohnson and Asche at 3rd in a 16 team mixed 6×6(OBP and holds). I am in first with a good lead. Any useful call ups? Should I wait for Franco/Davidson? A decent trade target would work too. Thanks
12 team H2H keeper- keep all as long as you stay under $260.
My pitching is youthful and I have Jose on the DL. My hitting lineup is full of aging stars and I am seeking to move Beltre and/or Chris Davis around the league. In this league they value pitching like gold and the WW is very slim, yet hitting is rather plentiful to the point where it is easy to win the cats over them each week with their blinders on pitching. Saying that, what kind of return could I get on Beltre/Davis (both cheap salaries) in a league that values pitching slightly heavier?
Should I drop Segura for Brad Miller, Alcides Escobar, Aybar, Hardy, Suarez, or Mercer in a 12 team, standard scoring league. Segura isn’t really doing anything or should I stick with it? I’m pretty much on the verge of grabbing Miller.
Miller is worth a grab, but I don’t think I’d be waiving Segura either. See if you can squeeze Miller on board and move Segura in a package for other needs.
To me, Chris Davis and Giancarlo Stanton seem to have nearly identical peripherals. Davis strikes out a bit more, but has been hitting more line drives and fly balls.
Given Davis’s .259 BABIP, Stanton’s .382 BABIP, Stanton’s injury history, and his sky-high trade value, is it crazy to deal Stanton for pitching in deeper 5×5 leagues and rely on Davis for a strong second half? Thanks
non-keeper, no not crazy to deal Stanton if you get top dollar back. Others will disagree with me though.
Already thinking about next season… will have moderate chance to contend in a 12 team 5×5 OBP league. Torn between keeping expensive vets vs lesser priced players. Should I keep Longo at 26 or Frazier at 5, Price at 26 or Kluber at 5, Posey at 26 or Mesoraco at 3? If I keep all three vets, my total keepers amounts to 80% of my budget, while keeping the cheaper guys eats up about 60%. Do I go the proven vet route or take a chance on the cheaper guys?
For my money, Frazier, Kluber, Mesoraco.
what would it cost to buy back Longo, Price, and Posey?
10 team mixed 5×5. Need help in AVG badly. Willing to trade away Segura, Kipnis, and any of my starters such as Samardzija, Verlander, E Santana, Kuroda, Richards, Grienke, Gray (would prefer to keep Gray/nke). Who should i be realistically targeting with a package of one or a few of these guys?
playing for Average is tough as it’s volatile and difficult to predict. I’d try to hang on to Kipnis for what it’s worth, but maybe you could aim for a buy low on Votto and pray his knee isn’t going to blow up.
This is for 11-team NL only with 25 man rosters with 5 OF and a UTL and a $260 cap. Stanton costs 37 in 2014, 37 in 2015, 42 in 2016 and 47 in 2017. Fernandez is 4 in 2013, 4 in 2104, 9 in 2015, 14 in 2016, and 19 in 2017. I have a fairly deep pitching staff going forward with Wainright, Kershaw, Eovaldi, Kennedy, Haren, Peralta and Biddle, Shipley, and Giolito in the wings. I could use the power bump this year and next. Am I getting shortchanged for Fernandez?
No, trading pitching for hitting is hard. Maybe you could ask for a cheap meh pitcher with some upside and give him whomever Stanton is replacing in the lineup…
Standard 12 team Roto. Squad full of big names but I’m just sitting in the middle of my league. What do I do? RPs go for a premium. In order of needs: Wins,SB,AVG,WHIP
Infield: Mesoraco, C. Santana, Miggy, Kipnis, Longo, B.Miller, Peralta,LaRoche
Outfield: Cruz, Pence, Rios, Dickerson, Ozuna, Duda, Pagan
Pitching: Latos, Kluber, Kazmir, Cashner, Keuchel, McHugh, Chavez, K. Jansen, Holland, & Pap.
Ranks:R=4th,HR=2nd,RBI=6th,SB=9th,AVG=9th,K=4th,W=10th,S=4th,ERA=5th,WHIP=6th
Latos coming back should help. Trading LaRoche for someone that will hit better than .270 from here on out is a good idea. Maybe try to sell someone who needs a catcher Santana unless you start two catchers. LaRoche and Santana could probably get a good batting average 1b or OF.
Holy Cow! This is amazing if this is going to be a semi-regular feature.
No question right now, although this is definitely the kind of thing I’d love to use on the site in the future.
5×5 where QSs replace Wins and very limited moves allowed. Rank for RoS?
Niese, T Walker, Duffy, McHugh, Porcello, Stroman, Kuroda.
Niese, Duffy, Porcello, Stroman, Kuroda, Walker. Or something like that.
A few quick hits for you in 6 x 6 (with OBP and OPS) H2H league:
Seager > Panda > SharkArenado > Zimmerman @ 3B ROS?
Pick up Ramos so I can sit Rosario against tough rightys? Or waste of roster space to have 2 catchers?
Stroman, Walker, or Heaney ROS?
Thanks!!
keep an eye on Zimm’s second half — he’s notorious for big finishes. I can’t really stand him, but it’s hard to ignore over his career. In general, I agree with your assessment though as of today.
Carrying two catchers sucks unless you have a ton of roster room.
I tend to like Stroman. Hard to ignore Walker though.
Thanks!
I’m in a 10 team league, so I think Zimm could even end up sitting on waivers a bit until he heats up, so I will definitely watch carefully.
I’m loving Stroman’s numbers as a starter so far – Walker seems like he needs another couple starts to settle in (seemed to be pitching behind a lot in yesterday’s game).
Keeper Trade. 14 team, 5 OF league, 2 catchers. Have strength in pitching (both Kershaw and Waino). Would you trade Kevin Gausman (that can be kept in the 14th round next season) and Jason Castro, for Elvis Andrus, d’Arnaud (who can be kept in the 13th round),and Brandon Moss? Currently rolling out Jed Lowrie at the SS position.
Yes
10 team keeper league H2H 6×6
Get to keep 7, who do you choose:
Braun, Polanco, Hanley, Puig, Sale, Scherzer, Bumgarner, Bautista, Jose Abreu, Billy Hamilton, Kluber, Arenado, and Verlander
Polanco, Puig, Abreu, Kluber, Braun, Sale, eh… can’t decide.
14 team 5×5 dynasty, 27 MLB, 3 OF and 1 UTIL. Young up-and-coming team in middle of the pack now. Currently top 3rdish in R, HR, RBI, bottom 3rd in SB and AVG. I view Polanco, Taveras, Martin as OF cornerstones, Stubbs and Maybin as temporary pieces. Debating whether K. Davis, Ozuna, James Jones are long-term pieces. I’d like to get from 8 OF to about 5. Who’d you cut, who’d you trade?
Toughie. Agree Stubbs, Maybin are temp. Love Davis and Ozuna, like Jones. Although if you need steals, Jones looks like he’s going to run every time he’s on base.
12 team h2H dynasty, 6×6 with QS and OBP as extra stats, deepish benches, offline 3 spot minor league roster. 12 start per week limit.
My SP is very deep with Felix, Wainwright, Latos, Bumgarner, Ryu, Fister, Miller, Harang. My RP is Nathan, Chapman, Betances, W. Davis.
Would you consider dealing Shelby Miller for Keneley Jensen and playing davis (who has SP, RP status) in a SP role to help beef up ratios and some k’s?
Shelby Miller is broken, so get what you can for him.
10 team dynasty 5×5, very much in rebuilding mode stocking up young talent … I’ve been offered Donaldson for Heyward straight up. I’m deep at both OF (McCutchen, Bautista, Springer) and 3B (Rendon, Bogaerts, Prado Castellanos), so I’m trying to make a call on whether or not Heyward is going to step it up and become what we thought he would.
I think he’s probably a .260/.380 20/10 kinda guy at best. Very good in real life.
Ottoneau, fan graphs points league. Was offered starlin Castro ($20) and chad qualls ($2) for dellin betances ($2) and Jesse Chavez ($1). At SS and mi I normally have peralta and owings who combine to cost less than Castro. Thoughts?
Don’t do it.
12 team standard Yahoo roto
I gave too many starts to CC Sabathia and Danny Salazar early in the season, and I’m at the back of the pack in ERA & WHIP. My current SP are Sale, Kluber, Latos, Bailey, Tyson Ross, and Jesse Hahn. Should I be OK the rest of the way, or do I need to make a move? It doesn’t help that I don’t trust Bailey and left him on the bench for his last start.
Trust Bailey. See if you can get someone to buy high on Hahn and Ross for one more stable arm.
Thanks. I’d been trying to offer Aramis for SP help, but no one was biting. The 2 for 1 approach, or maybe offering Aramis plus one of Ross or Hahn, is definitely something I’ll consider.
Just picked up Prince Fielder for $10 as a free agent in a keeper league–he was drafted for $60. What do you expect from him next year? Was neck injury reason for his declining bat speed? He has to sit in my only reserve spot rest of season and I am in third. Keep or trade and expect what?
I’d put out trade feelers. The injuries are probably starting now. .280/25 might be an upside projection at this point.
Not a league specific question, but do you believe in Collin McHugh? His peripherals lol great and his ERA predictors all support his current stats. Is he a sell high guy, or is he worth holding?
I of course mean are, not lol. Serves me right for being on my phone at work.
I like him. Turfed a bad two-seamer and went for Ks over GBs. Seems to have a good story behind his new stats.
Redraft, 12 team, H2H points but standings determined in CBS Power Ranking. We’re currently winning all the categories (record, points scored, and breakdown). Traded Polanco and Kluber for Puig. If healthy, post ASG outfield would be Trout, Puig, Pence, and Cargo. Rotation would be Gio, Beckett, Felix, Iwakuma, and Porcello.
Did we make a huge mistake?
Huge Mistake? That sounds like a great trade. I think Polanco may be in for some slight regression/rookie growing pains and you got a bonafide top 10 hitter in Puig.
yes, great trade. I’d try to drop a bench hitter for a bench pitcher of you have a meh bench hitter. Quantity important for pitching.
Keeper H2H league, keep 8 forever, standard 5 batting cats + K, BB, 2B, 3B.
In 1st and relatively set but could use an extra closer.
Standard positions + 2 UTIL spots and to my delight I have Abreu, Encarnacion and Goldschmidt clogging the (1B)ases.
I am trying to move Abreu + ?? for Stanton, both to get Stanton going forward and to free up one of the UTIL spots to open up roster construction options. Owner is falling out of contention, which basically means I need to give him a keeper in return. Thinking Posey + Abreu for Stanton + Mauer + in-year help (let’s say one of Papelbon, Lester, or Fister; could possibly get 2 or 3 of those)
Questions:
1. What do you think of Posey going forward 3-4 years out in a league like this? He’s been a top-25 hitter in years when he’s on and getting 1B time; not nearly as valuable over the last calendar year.
2. How different will Abreu and Stanton be over the next 3-4 years? I’m not going to move Posey for lineup flexibility alone; need to feel like Stanton is a significant improvement.
I think he can .290/20 most years, and his strikeout rate is nice for your league.
I think I take your two guys.
B. Moss or Josh Hamilton? Rest of year 14 team standard Roto mixer.
Moss. More power.
12 Team H2H limited keeper league with deep benches (11 plus an IR), weekly lineups with no CI, 1 catcher, 3 OFs, 3 SPs, 2 RPs (with no SPARPs). Started strong but have tailed off of late, mostly due to injuries (Arenado/Belt/Harper). Shakey at 1B (Napoli/Belt/Morales) and SP (after Waino and Sale I mix and match in the 3rd spot one of Smardzija/Beckett/Tijuan Walker/Cashner/Archer/Eovaldi/Bauer). I presume nothing outside the box is going to upgrade my 1B situation (Loney/Lind/Duda types on the wire), but Gausman, as well as Pomeranz, Smyly, Shoemaker, Cosart, Carlos Martinez are all available for the SP spot. Any of those an upgrade ROS on what I’m carrying?
What to do with Joey Votto? Does he turn it around or do I deal him for pennies on the dollar?
His knee is still bugging him. FWIW, his average distance on fly balls and home runs the last three seasons (’14, ’13, ’12): 313, 294, 300. HR/FB at a career low too. A turnaround seems likely, but if his knee continues to bark, who knows.
Thanks, Michael. How do you find the fly ball distance?
Greg, here’s the HR & FB batted ball distance leaderboard on baseball heat maps. http://www.baseballheatmaps.com/graph/distanceleader.php
Jeff Zimm’s Baseballheatmaps.com
Oswaldo Arcia: pre-season darling, midseason waiver fodder. I’m in win-now mode, and roster space is tight. Is he still worth making room for in deep AL OPS league?
deep AL OPS ^keeper
Note: his batted ball distance which was drool worthry at 300 ft last year is down to 289 this year.
Joey Gallo: Top keeper or no? I want a keeper HR bat, so keep him or Sano?
Gerrit Cole has been a problem for me in a 10-team redraft mixed-league that counts pitcher BB and HR allowed. Is there any reason to believe that going forward he can lower his walk and home run rates (as well as his overall line)?
12 tm mixed pts keeper league. Currently leading league. Aramis Ramirez starting 3B w/ Prado as backup. Worth dealing Archie Bradley for Pedro Alvarez as insurance?
Please rank the three players by RoS performance and then by 2015 performance: Yordano Ventura, Taijuan Walker, and Marcus Stroman.
12 team mixed, standard 5×5 H2H league.
10 Team, H2H, Standard categories. Currently in 3rd.
Here’s my team:
Arenado is coming off the DL. I’m getting whipped in the SB and Saves categories every week, but I’m pretty solid everywhere else.
Who do I drop when Arenado comes off the DL? Which package of players would net me a nice speed guy? Should I target Billy Hamilton, Brett Gardner, Jay Bruce?
Any advice, greatly appreciated.

I’m sorry. HTML typos.
11 Team Mixed, 7×7, add OBP, OPS, HLD and QS. I need rotation help, because I’m largely shopping in the bargain bin due to a bats-first draft strategy and some trades. Currently, I’m rolling with: Kluber, Keuchel, Cashner, Santana, Porcello and Locke as a bet on the Pirates pitching coach. But on the wire are Masterson, Dickey, Quintana, Liriano, Travis Wood, Stroman, Hughes, McHugh, Vargas, Cosart, Elias, Smyly, not to mention dudes who might seriously improve like Gausman, Miley, McCarthy… it feels like there’s any number of reasons that any of these dudes could have a good to great second half. Who would you guys go with…?
Kluber, Keuchel, Cashner, Santana is solid. Can you stream one spot each week? I’m not sure Procello or Locke is ownable. I’d prefer Smyly maybe Mchugh. But, it maybe best to just play matchups each week/go with the hot hand.
Hold or sell on Todd Frazier?
From the second comment above:
I traded Aybar ($12) and Odorizzi ($10) for Ryan Zimmerman ($24) in an AL only league plus the Nats and Dodgers.
I’m in an 8 team H2H 5×5. My current outfielders are Cargo, Harper, Gomez, Puig, Springer, and Polanco. They fill 3 OF and one UTIL spot–the other spot is filled by Jose Abreu, who’s blocked at 1B by Goldy. I’m trying to put together a trade package to acquire Carlos Santana and Garrett Richards, to shore up my shaky rotation and cover for the Gattis injury. What would be a reasonable offer to make out of those players?
Trying to decide how much to give for Ian Kennedy. Above or below 3.5 era rest of season?
Right around that mark I’d say, he does have the occasional blowup…
My team went from worst to first as I am running out Y.Molina, Pujols, Kipnis/Dozier, Wright, Braun, Heyward, Segura, Stanton and G.Polanco and most have been slumping the last 2 months. Can I expect massive bounce backs from a lot of these guys or am I screwed?
I’m in an AL Only 5X5 Roto-Keepers 10-team league. I’m in first place, but just barely and was in the middle of the pack in steals. So, I just did this trade:
My Team – Josh Donaldson ($10), Lorenzo Cain ($4), and Matt Lindstrom
for
Other Team – Jacob Ellsbury ($31) and Kyle Seager ($13)
My only other real stolen base threat is Brett Gardner. I figured that the best way for me to break away from the pack is in a single category like steals. What do you think? Good trade for me or not?
Please rank these three OF for the rest of the season in a H2H format (with OPS) as a 6th category Thanks.
Granderson, Austin Jackson, and Desmond Jennings.
Thanks
12-team mixed 5×5 H2H league (R,HR,RBI,SB,AVG,K,W,SV,ERA,WHIP). Standard ESPN positions (C,1B,2B,3B,SS,2B/SS,1B/3B,5xOF,UTIL,9xP,3xBench). Daily adds, no limit (or cost) on transactions.
I’m short one OF and a UTIL in terms of “permanent” players (i.e. guys I’m not going to drop on a day when they’re not active). So far I’ve been just been spot-starting guys based on matchups. Here’s are the most attractive (healthy) candidates on the waiver wire:
Domonic Brown
Alfonso Soriano
Chase Headley
Nick Swisher
Jonathan Villar
James Loney
Jed Lowrie
C.J. Cron
Kendrys Morales
Alejandro De Aza
Gerardo Parra
Chris Carter
Dayan Viciedo
Would you pick up any of those and make him a “permanent” roster fixture, or just keep those spots open to use for spot starts?
12-team 5×5 (OBP) keep-7 league. I’m only a few points out of first place, but I’m dead last in steals, so that’s an obvious place to make up some ground. Just offered Kemp and Myers for Ellsbury. None would be worth keeping at their prices. Fair offer? Tried targeting Altuve, Marte, and Hamilton but their owners won’t deal.
I have the following pitchers in H2H (which I am winning), Iwakuma, Cole, Zimmerman, Quintana, Hughes, Arrieta, A. Wood, Stroman and Richards. I like to stream when up against a tough matchup, which of these guys are you okay dropping (and maybe losing)? Thanks!
So I am basically just sitting in the middle of the pack, I have had some bad luck with the H2H match ups but generally don’t know who to move to address my needs of speed and saves, etc.
Also, I feel like puig is my only keeper because cargo is too frustrating and kinsler is getting older? I would like to keep hitters over pitchers as well.
12 Team H2H (3 keepers): R, HR, RBI, TB, SB, OBP, AVG// K, QS, W, SV, ERA, WHIP
Starting lineup: Montero, Hosmer, Chisenhall, Ian Kinsler, Brad miller, Matt Carpenter (2b/ss), Lucas Duda (1B/3B), Puig, Holliday, Calhoun, Dickerson, Kemp, Kendrys Morales (util)
DL: Brandon Belt, Carlos Gonzalez
Pitching: Madbum, Cobb, Iwakuma, Sonny Gray, Ventura, Locke, Bucholz, McHugh, Arrieta, Cishek, Romo (drafted 4 closers only have 1 with a job now).
DL: Cashner
Thanks!!
12 team keeper, we keep 12 players each year. I am not in contention, my buddy is. He has taveras. I am wondering how you would value him at this point? As in, what would be an example of a fair 1-for-1 for taveras that would help my friend win this year. Thanks!
So, for some reason all these questions in the middle got skipped 🙁
Have Starlin, Brad Miller, Betts and Baez (13-teamer, OBP, nSB, MI slot). Enough depth to shop Starlin for a closer? What tier can I ask for?
For some reason I ended up with Desmond, Rendon, Werth and Ramos (back-up for Rosario) in my team. Anything I should look for when starting all/benching as many as possible? Besides, Clayton Kershaw match-ups.
Yesterday was sweet.
10 team mixed, 7 hitting categories (Normal + OBP and TB). Keeper league with 6 keepers apiece. Hurting at MI – drop Xander Bogaerts (30th round) for Brad Miller?
A friend in my 10-man keeper league has been coming at me HARD for Trout for 2.5 years now. His offers have gotten progressively crazier, though they often involved Braun, who has fallen off this year. Most recently, he offered Goldschmidt and Strasburg for Trout, and I finally pulled the trigger. Good move? (Keepers now are 4 of: Goldschmidt, Rizzo, Strasburg, Bautista, Rendon, Garret Richards in that order. Rendon and Richards probably won’t make the cut.)
I should clarify: standard 5×5 roto. I’m in 9th of 10, despite significantly overhauling my roster, and have the worst offense in the league. (Last in runs, tied for last in HR, 8th in RBI, 9th in average, fifth in steals; bottom third in ERA, WHIP and saves, upper third in wins and middle-bottom in k’s)
My league has a half buy-in penalty for 9th and a full buy-in penalty for 10th. This doesn’t make me a contender, but I think it probably pushes me out of the red.
What kind of bear is best?
Black Bear
California Golden Bear
Yan Gomes or Wilin Rosario in a points league?
Should i drop David Wright outright, with the mets not playing for anything could he realistically get shut down for the last month or more(our playoffs)and his poor performance overall i dont see him returning to form with a bum shoulder
OBP and Total Bases league:
Mookie Betts or Dexter Fowler ROS?
Lucroy or Salvador Perez ROS?
Lucroy/Perez or Carlos Santana ROS? Trying to identify which of my three catchers to try to trade.
For a streaming starter today, Leake @ SD, or Alvarez against Phillies?
What is the meaning of life?
Thanks!
Didn’t realize there was an early game today, my streaming question is irrelevant. Feel free to weigh in for the sake of predicting the future though.
how would you value these emerging players in terms of overall rank in a standard league (i.e. Player X would be approximately the 50th player off the board if we were to draft now): Corey dickerson, dee gordon, rougned odor, c.j. Cron, collin mchugh, nate eovaldi
360-player mixed 5×5 league. Here’s a list of SP’s: Quintana, Haren, Hutchison, Masterson, Kuroda, Buchholz, Estrada, Dickey, C.Young, B.Norris, Morton. I’m carrying 2 of them right now and running behind on IP; do you recommend rostering a 3rd or streaming for matchups? Who are your top 4 here?
Odorizzi or Skaggs, ROS?
Standard 12 team 5×5 mixed roto on ESPN. I’m trying to maximize GP by adding a flexible player to shuffle between MI/OF during off days. I’m leading every category by roughly the same amount so stat mix doesn’t matter.
My Reyes/Frazier for Zobrist/Wright. Thoughts?
I’d stick with what you got. Frazier may regress some, but even so he should have a solid ROS. Reyes over Zobrist any day. And, I just wouldn’t trust Wright too much. He’s got an injury now and that Metslineup is beyond awful.
I’d stick with what you got. Frazier may regress some, but even so he should have a solid ROS. Reyes over Zobrist any day. And, I just wouldn’t trust Wright too much. He’s got an injury now and that Mets lineup is beyond awful.
Two questions:
1) Generally, who will perform better RoS: Manny Machado or David Wright?
2) Who will provide the better rate stats RoS b/t Matt Cain and Mike Minor?
Standard 5×5, 17-team mixed, pretty deep. Who to start this week: Domingo Santana or Billy Butler at UT; also, Brandon Belt or Jaso at CI/C (I have Lucroy who moves to either). Week is Tues-Monday.
Thanks!
I’m in need of steals in a 10-Team H2H. I can flip one of the following pitchers for Marte: Cobb, Keuchel, Gray, Arrieta, Kluber, Gio, AWood. Who should I try first? Then Second if first fails? Thanks
Cobb first, definitely. Then probably Gio much as it pains me to say it.
WYR: Votto or Bruce in an OBP Dynasty league?
Is Votto old and broken? Can he regain his heroic form and take back the life and ranking that was once his own? Is Bruce one of those dead-end relationships where they’re hot enough you don’t want to leave, but only put out twice, maybe three times a year?
Oh the melodrama…..
10 team dynasty points league w/ 2 keepers. Have a bunch of good starters but no fantasy ace. Got Arenado coming off the DL this week and looking to move Beltre for MadBum. Kept Beltre the last couple of years but starting to worry about age even though he keeps performing. Fair trade?
10 team mixed. Is it time to drop Allen Craig for Steve Pearce? I have Holliday and Molina also. Cardinals hitters are not doing anything right now. Thanks so much.
Just dropped him for Cron. I think so. Neither is going to be a game-changer IMO.
Are there any projections that offer updated splits projections? For example steamer blog offers preseason splits but it seems like once your into the season Zips/Steamer don’t have any splits.
Does Brad Moss and Kluber for Andrew McCutcheon seem fair?
8 team mixed 7×7 (TB, OPS, QS, K/9). His AGonz and Darvish for my Jose Abreu? I have Rizzo and there is one 1b 1 CI and 2 util spots.
12 Team, H2H points, Redraft, No NYY in player pool
I have Ian Desmond at SS but have a feeling about Starlin Castro ROS. Worth dealing OF depth (Trout, Car Gomez, Pence, Harper, Springer, Polanco, Dickerson, Khris Davis, start 5) for him even if it means I bench Desmond? I have too much OF for it to just sit on my bench and do nothing for me.
C Rosario
1B Edwin E
2B Rendon
3B Beltre
SS Desmond
SP Hamels, Kluber, J Zimmermann, Iwakuma, Latos, Gio Gonzalez, Porcello, Eovaldi, Duffy, Hahn
RP Doolittle, Tyson Ross, Alex Wood, Gausman
Many thanks!
If I can trade Devin Mesoraco for Garrett Richards & Trevor Rosenthal I have to do it right? I have Santana. WHat if he wants D. Ortiz instead?
6×5 H2H each cat with OBP and Errors (Errors – I know, yuck, right?)
Right rank for MI ROS: Miller, Aybar, Hill?
Right rank SP ROS: Cain, Kennedy, Hammel, Hughes
Any place on the web that project errors ROS?
I’m in a head-to-head Yahoo 5-keeper league, with extra categories BB for hitters and K/BB for pitchers.
I was offered Chris Davis and Yan Gomes for Corey Kluber and Carlos Santana.
I would be replacing either Dexter Fowler or Oscar Taveras in my Util spot with Chris Davis. Carlos Santana is a candidate for keeper along with Longoria, Pujols, and Taveras, but I probably won’t/wouldn’t keep him.
I think this would actually hurt me this year, but I feel crazy for thinking about rejecting it since Davis would be a big keeper upgrade. Thoughts?
I would do it unless you have a chance to win this year. Flags fly forever.
Marlon Byrd or Betts the ROS? Alexi Ramirez is my main SS, so Betts would be insurance for Alexi.
If just on the bench as insurance, Betts. If in the lineup everyday, Byrd.
5×5 standard keeper – which Cabrera at SS? E or A? Or skip those two and add Mookie at MIF?
I would add Mookie right now. The other two are lost and aren’t keeper material.
I’m in first in a 5×5 (with OPS) Roto league with 8 keepers. Trying to decide if my rotation can keep me in first or needs an upgrade (6th in W, 1st in ERA, 2nd WHIP, and 5th in Ks). Rotation is Greinke, Kluber, Gio Gonzalez, Shark, I. Kennedy, and Heaney. Is that good enough to hold on?
If not, I have depth at OF (Trout, McCutch, Pence, and B. Hamilton) and 1B (A Gon and Adams). Should I look to trade a hitter for an ace (and if so, any targets)? Thanks!
Five starters will probably get you at those K and W levels. It is tough to move up without starting 6+ starters. You may look at jumping in on some 2 start pitchers to get the Wins and Ks up.
12 team mixed, h2h, standard 5×5, redraft – give Kluber + K Rod for Price? I have Rosenthal, Mejia, Joe Smith as well. Thanks!
I wouldn’t.
5×5 Roto. 10 teams. 1C/MI/CI/5OF/Util, 10 P, 2 bench spots.
I’m in 1st by 7-13 pts depending on the day. 2-6 place behind me are all bunched together. Should I be leveraging the scrum below me to fill in my gaps, or just sit tight? I’m afraid of over-managing.
I’m strong in HR/RBI/R and ERA and WHIP. Points to be gained (I’m in the pack) at AVG/SB and K/W/S. Mostly worried about SB/K.
My starting Pitchers are 7 of these 9: Bumgarner, Darvish, Gray, Y.Ventura, Arrieta, McHugh, Roark, Alex Wood, E. Santana.
My middle infield is currently Kinsler, Rendon, Brad Miller.
Questions:
(1) Should I be worried about dropoff of any of those pitchers?
(2) I have an offer to flip Gray for Rajai Davis (who would replace E. Young in my OF). Pull the trigger?
(3) Working on an offer of Rendon+(Ventura/McHugh/Roark/Wood/Santana)+Young for Price+N.Walker+Revere. I feel like I win that deal. Thoughts?
Sorry so long. Any answers to any of those would be greatly appreciated.
1. I would not expect a drop off from the pitchers, I would be worried about some the younger ones being shutdown at the end of the season because of innings.
2. I don’t like Gray for Davis right now, maybe try one of the young pitchers (Ventura,McHugh) and see if they bite. A note on Davis, he may sit for a bit. Maybe look for one of those stretches and jump in when his value is lower.
3. I like this trade, do it.
Thanks so much for your time! I really appreciate it!
Re-Draft, 20 Team, Head to Head 10×10
What are the best 3-5 pitching targets for B. Harper ??
Harper is still probably a top 25 pick with the injury, so only any pitchers in the top 25, so the best of the best.
Thank you, kind of seems obvious in retrospect.
Trying to avoid ‘shiny new toy’ syndrome… Who is better in 5×5 keeper, Yelich or Betts? ESPN so just OF eligibility for Betts.
Yelich, in my opinion. If you think back, Yelich was a highly rated prospect; much more so than Betts.
Agree, but they are pretty close in talent.
I may like Betts in the long run because his R and RBI totals will probably be better with the Red Sox than the Marlins.
Who can I send hate mail to? I picked up Doolittle Sunday night and he did me proud by immediately putting up a 108 ERA in .1 IP and halving his K:BB ratio.
I dont think you can send hate mail to anyone. Doolittle has been one of the best RP for two months, what kind of competitive league are you in??
Send? Sounds like you’re the one who should be receiving it for wrecking Doolittle’s hot streak with your bad luck 🙂
I’m done with Alex Cobb. Who do you like that’s on waivers in my keeper league where I’m in contention for this year (K/9 is a stat in the league): D Fister, G Richards, H Alvarez, D Keuchel?
Keuchel would be the only one as any kind of positive upgrade in pitching ability:
http://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.aspx?pos=all&stats=pit&lg=all&qual=0&type=1&season=2014&month=0&season1=2014&ind=0&team=0&rost=0&age=0&filter=&players=6562,9425,9434,9784,5669&sort=9,d
Otherwise you are just re-arranging deck chairs.
Standard 5×5 league. I need some power. Should I keep Lind around (not many homers, but he often hits sandwiched between Joey Bats and E5, and thus gets R and RBI by accident) hoping the power shows up. Or Josh Willingham?
If the only power you need is home runs, Willingham is the right choice.
Can I get a diagnosis on Brandon McCarthy and why he’s struggle despite tremendous peripherals?
I really don’t know, his HR/FB is at a career high with an above average BABIP. I see him as the perfect by low pitcher.
Thank you for doing this. Ottoneu pts league, fairly competitive, 12 teams, keeper w/arbitration system and $400 cap. Second-place team just agreed a trade with the last place team, giving up Corey Dickerson ($3) for Yu Darvish ($45), with last place team loaning the salary difference for the balance of the year. Is there a universe in which this trade is fair?
I don’t see a problem with it. Two valuable assets traded.
Thanks Jeff. Re-assuring.
Pretender deals $35 Braun to contender for $15 Cespedes. Large enough return?
Keeper, yes. Redraft no. Also depends on how long each can be kept.
Sorry…meant to add keeper league and its a $3 bump per year to keep.
In an OBP H2H league. Thinking about trading Polanco and picking up either Granderson or Calhoun. Will either of those guys get me close to Polanco’s production ROS? Steamer ROS see below) thinks so. I’m a little worried about Calhoun platooning and Granderson staying healthy. What do you think?
Calhoun 39/10/38/5/.329
Polanco 33/6/33/13/.314
Granderson 37/12/35/5/.313
I have a bit of a logjam at my outfield/2B positions, and it’s ending up that I can only start three of Starling Marte, Brandon Moss, and Brian Dozier. Which of the three would you recommend sitting? Points Yahoo league, categories R, H, RBI, HR, SB.
Oops, I meant I can only start two of them.
Thoughts on Shin Soo Choo ROS? With him not running at all and so-so run production is he a sell or hold or even a drop? I have him at $23 in a $260 11 team mixed keeper standard 5×5 categories limiting his trade value for this and future years. Thanks
I’m still trying to cobble together a decent pitching staff in a 12-team 5X5 dynasty league. Please rank with long-term value in mind: Gio Gonzalez, Teheran, Kluber, Alex Wood, Smyly, Hahn, Salazar, Gausman, Shelby Miller, Alex Meyer, Pomeranz. Thanks!
What tier of hitter or pitcher would Mookie Betts fetch right now in a dynasty league keep forever?
Sonny Gray or Homer Bailey? QS league
WHO IS MARKUS BETTS??
Leading 9 team mixed league in most pitching categories (spent first two picks on starting pitchers: Kershaw, Darvish, King Felix, Uehara, Lohse, Hahn, wade davis, Porcello)
As you can guess, I need to catch up in HR, RBI’s and AVG. Could upgrade SS (Reyes), 2B (Utley), and OF (Blackmon, J.D. Martinez and C. Dickerson). Also have 3 Cards riding the pine (Molina, Craig and Holliday).
Obviously I need to deal Kershaw, Darvish and/or King Felix, but who do I target at these positions?
10 X 10 h2h league. Rate stats are traditional, added are things like singles and complete games. Traded b. McCarthy, m. Adams, and sal perez for Strasburg, w. Rosario and hosmer. In subsequent move sent pujols and c. Owings for k. Seager. 3B is terrible for ww. Rosters are lf, cf, rf and an IF position. My teams is greatly improved, slightly improved, the same or worse? Thanks
Mookie Betts and a small prospect or Wil Myers and Sean Doolittle in a dynasty points league?
Forgot- 12 team mixed league.
Is JD Martinez droppable for jayson werth? Do you think JD’s changes are for real? Thanks!
I would rather have Werth, I think Martinez will remain somewhat productive, the power seems legit and I do think he has adjusted himself enough to not completely fall off a map, but Werth has a better track record and I think realistically Martinez has peaked in terms of his fantasy impact. Werth still could give you a nice second half like he did last year.
Okay, thanks
Who do you think is a better bet going forward, Sergio Romo or Cody Allen? Romo was just dropped in one of my leagues and I know for right now he is out of the role, but I expect him to regain the job soon enough. Allen has been good since taking over the role, but has had a frustrating lack of save chances.
Random non-player specific question about rankings:
I’m in a non-standard league that counts the following stats:
Batters – R, H, 2b, 3b, HR, RBI, SB, AVG., TB, BB, Ks
Pitchers – W, L, Ks, ERA, WHIP, SV, BSV, QS, and K/9.
My problem is that it’s a Yahoo league and thus the rankings shown are not tailored to my stat categories. Therefore, Yahoo might have a player ranked #1 who might really be ranked 15th in my league given the differential in stat categories.
So, when I enter these custom categories into Fangraphs “Custom Leaderboards,” I’m wondering whether it is giving me accurate rankings in accordance with my stat categories. If not, do you have any resource you can point me to showing me how I can compile these custom rankings myself? If there is an easy way to compile these rankings by incorporating the player stats into an excel spreadsheet, that would be helpful too.
By the way, I’m aware that general rankings probably incorporate future projections, but these would be based on past stats alone.
AL only league — would you drop Bradley or Soriano or neither for houston’s Santana?
10-team, H2H, re-draft league (We have extremely deep bench space due to 3 UTIL spots and no limit on IP/week). Jimmy Nelson is looking pretty damn good in the minors and I have to imagine he’ll be up soon. My pitching is a pretty weak spot on my team. Would you drop any of the following to stash Nelson? (Assume all hitters below are riding the bench)
– Brad Miller (I have Zobrist and Dee Gordon as 2b/SS combo)
– Javier Baez
– Andrew Heaney
– Marcus Stroman
– Corey Dickerson
– Wily Peralta
– Christian Yelich
– Archie Bradley
– Dylan Bundy
Thanks to the experts for taking time to chime in on some and some not so fairly specific questions.
Thanks for the AQA thread! With JJ Hardy’s power outage it seems the O’s are less likely to sign him for 2015 and beyond. What are the odds that Machado is moved to SS for 2015?
Odds that Street gets traded and Benoit becomes the closer?
I’ve got Segura, Craig, Bruce, Heyward, Cargo, and a MI hole now filled by B. Miller as 6 of my 14 starting hitters. Am I do for a pretty sizeable BA improvement? (I also acquired Belt and Taveras)
I also have Gattis and Carlos Gomez probably going the other way
due*
I’m down to .264 on the year
10 team keeper, H2H, standard scoring. I’m doing well, but have a roster crunch. I have both Kemp and Billy Hamilton wasting away on my bench. I like Hamilton for SB help, and Kemp is doing much better. I would like to add another closer or MI help, but don’t want to drop anyone. What sort of trade package could I put together that makes sense? Or stay put?
C,1B,3B,Util: Posey, Encarnacion, Donaldson, Abreu
2B/SS: Desmond, Segura
OFs: Puig, A.Jones, Carlos Gomez, Kemp, B.Hamilton
SPs: Strasburg, A.Sanchez, S.Gray, Gio, Kazmir, H.Bailey, Archer
Closers: Holland, Perkins, Janssen
Points league, Goldschmidt is my highest scorer, but have an offer on the table for A Wood, Cobb and Gio Gonzales, kinda need pitching due to some injuries, fair enough?
I don’t think so. Those guys are all solid, but not studs this year. Goldschmit is, any decent arms on your wire for streaming?
I am always reluctant to trade hitting for pitching especially considering how deep pitching is compared to offense currently.
Standard 5×5 keeper league
Price for Polanco
Deep at SP and looking for an impact bat for the long haul
Pedro Alvarez or Matt Carpenter in a standard league?
Answers from Experts or Amateurs alike all welcome!
12 team mixed Standard 5×5 Roto.
I’m dying for Homeruns. Asdrubal Cabrera, JJ Hardy, Mookie, Suarez, or Brad Miller?
Thanks!
Ottoneu Points League
I’m in first place by about 200 points. I currently have Goldschmidt and Ortiz at UT/1B, David Wright/Plouffe/Dominguez at 3B, Hanley at SS, Dozier at 2B and Rollins primarily at MI. I am debating a Kris Bryant ($3), David Ortiz ($9), Brian Dozier ($9) and Francisco Liriano ($3) for Tulo ($49) and Miguel Cabrera ($59). Thoughts?
11-team NL only, keeper league. And there’s no bench so if you own a starter, you have to take every one of their starts.
Someone offered me Jansen and Dan Haren (both unkeepable) for Tyson Ross @1, Ian Kennedy @ 6 and Kris Bryant.
Bryant’s not really on the table, but I’m thinking of offering a supplementary MiLB pick instead. Is that too much to give? NL-only, closers are like gold in our league. Fwiw, if Kennedy gets traded to the AL, you still get the rest of his stats from this year but he can’t be kept.
Hey Eno,
Just wanted to say thanks for doing the fantasy populace the service of making us more secure about our fantasy baseball teams… I know we are a fickle bunch and at times can be testing, but we just want you to know that we appreciate you even when you need to be harsh.
On to my questions:
1) I made a couple deals in my dynasty where I’m looking at 2015 to compete, we had a different set of categories (SLG, OBP, R+RBI-HR, SB-CS, PA) and (K/9, BB/9, HR/9, BB-K/PA, TRA min. 1500IP). We don’t count saves or wins and the hitting categories are a little different so I figured it was worth mentioning. One more thing of note is that we can only keep 27 players.
-I trade Khris Davis and Sean Doolittle for Ian Desmond and Tony Cingrani
-I trade Carlos Gomez 🙁 and Manny Machado 🙁 for Yasiel Puig :D. All have 4 years left of team control after this one… worried Machado won’t be elite for another 2-3 years in fantasy terms.
2)How should I value Arrieta and RDLR in a dynasty?
3)Was just offered AJax for Refsnyer. I know this a no brainer but due to contracts in our league, Refsnyder is keepable as a MiLB player while Jackson has contract assigned to him that prevents him from being moved between my minors and majors. Should I pull the trigger hoping AJax rebounds or just recognize that the owner is willing to sell that low on him that I can probably pick him off waivers later or after the season.
4) Will Sano and/or Franco be able to man 3B for me in 2015? After dealing Machado I have only Moose-Taco’s and Headley for there… both of which I am skeptical on.
Thanks again. You da man.
14-team weekly head to head redraft. Thinking of cutting bait on Jon Singleton. Power and average are needs. Do any of Swisher, Ethier, J. Francisco, Dunn, Lake, or Arcia strike you as “must-own” options?
Thanks!
