ADP Battle Royale: First Base

Over the last few years the industry has begun to focus on NFBC leagues more and more. It is not because it is the most popular format in spite of its growth. It is because, on average, it has more competitive leagues due to the cost involved. This allows for a better average draft position. While ADP is not the end all be all, it can give us some insight into the market and if you have competing markets, it is good to compare them and see what information can be exploited. In this series of articles, I will look at the places where NFBC ADP is higher than the four other major platforms in an attempt to point out potential deals for those of you not playing on NFBC. Welcome to the ADP Battle Royale!

NFBC Versus ESPN

Ryan Mountcastle (NFBC ADP: 114.46, ESPN ADP: 166.8)- Mouncastle has the biggest gap between his NFBC ADP offering a 52 pick discount. While I am lower on him now that the Orioles moved the fences, I would be more than willing to take that discount especially when you add in the outfield eligibility.

CJ Cron (129.9, 165.6)- Cron has a nice little 35 pick discount when you see that he is probably a tier too low for a full time player with pop in Coors.

Brandon Belt (225.65, 254.1)- A lot of people love Belt coming off of a breakout season in spite of missing a lot of time with injury. I am not one of them because of the injury risk, so this wouldn’t make me any more interested in drafting him, but you fans may want to attack him in your ESPN leagues

NFBC Versus Yahoo

Alex Kirilloff (NFBC ADP: 185.01, 228.3)- Coming into draft season, I was hoping to draft a lot of Kirilloff because I thought we would get a bigger discount. Unfortunately, the NFBC crowd has not given much of one. However, the Yahoo discount is a bit better. In these shallower formats, Kirilloff is a gamble I would take much more often.

Joey Votto (149.76, 179)- I think the lack of interest in Votto over at Yahoo has a lot to do with ageism. Either way, I would be happy to get Votto this late as it is pretty clear the changes he made led to the bounceback in power.

Jonathan Schoop (206.18, 234.2)- I am always a fan of drafting Schoop. To be honest, I think he is undervalued on NFBC much less here on Yahoo as well as CBS and Fantrax.

Ty France (146.98, 171.3)- I am not a big fan of France at his price on NFBC considering you can get similar profiles later, but on Yahoo, he gets enough of a discount, I would be willing to take a shot or two.

NFBC Versus CBS

Nathaniel Lowe (NFBC ADP: 231.11, CBS ADP: 290.5)- Lowe was a guy I was out on until I did a little more digging. On the changes he made in season. Now I am becoming more and more interested and if I am able to get him at a nice discount on CBS, I would definitely welcome him on a few teams.

Ty France (146.98, 201.83)- See above.

Jonathan Schoop (206.18, 253.5)- See above.

LaMonte Wade Jr. (305.49, 352)- I love Wade as a Giants fan, but I do not trust the Giants to give him enough playing time which makes him difficult to draft outside of extremely deep leagues no matter the price.

Trey Mancini (191.53, 233.5)- Mancini is another one of these guys that I feel like he might be a bit undervalued on NFBC, which means if you can get him cheaper on other sites, I would attack that.

Yuli Gurriel (208.43, 245.33)- Gurriel is another older guy that doesn’t get enough credit on NFBC, so I will be sure to draft him in formats that value him less. Great addition of late batting average.

Bobby Dalbec (232.1, 266.2)- I am not much of a Dalbec believer, but I know there are plenty of them out there. If you are, CBS may be a place you can get a huge discount.

NFBC Versus Fantrax

Yoshi Tsutsugo (NFBC ADP: 313.41, Fantrax ADP: 364.84)- Tsutsugo is getting a great 51 pick discount on fantrax where people aren’t keying in as much on his gains after arriving in Pittsburgh. I am a believer, so I would be buying in Fantrax drafts.

Rowdy Tellez (301.58, 346.42)- Tellez is another guy that I love at his price already and so the fact I can get him almost 45 picks later at Fantrax, is a huge bonus. I think he is one of the big winners of the NL DH, so I am happy to over invest.

Yuli Gurriel- See above.

Jonathan Schoop- See above.

Jesus Aguilar- See above.

I think one of the most jarring ADP differences is the very first one in Vlad Jr. Are the CBS stats coming from autodrafts where pitchers are by default at the top of the list? A 7-9 pick difference compared to the other four drafting sites almost makes one want to throw CBS’s ADP list entirely out the window.

You beat me to the comment. LOL How can Vladdy be going 13 in CBS ? There is something clearly wrong.

Even in a points league where pitchers are probably going higher, that’s also the format that he benefits from the most. Something has to be off.
