2018 Too Early Mock Drafts ADP

For the last three years I have run an industry mock draft during the month of September. It has been a fun exercise that suits three purposes:

  1. It is an early look at what the industry feels about the next season, especially because most people don’t have ranks or projections prepared to rely on.
  2. September can be a hard month to come up with things to talk/write about.
  3. I am a masochist.

This year I decided to turn it up a notch. I started four separate mock drafts including 57 different analysts. Here are the mock draft (you can click the title of the of each table to go to each mock) and analysts involved:

I do not see any results, just a progressive insurance ad, which would be a funny but nasty trick after getting my hopes up with your article title.

I’m surprised to see Pham at #75. 9th in the league in wRC+, potential for 55-60 HR+SB over the course of 600 PAs…what am I missing?

I would have thought he’d be a top-50 pick. Anyone else?

Pham will be 30 years old by the start of next season, combined with the fact that he has only done this once, has people being cautious.

30 years old next year, no extended track record at the major league level and a degenerative eye disease that will only get worse, never better. The guy has to constantly monitor his contacts daily and even changes contacts during games.

Googled it and came up with this article:

From the article, one doctor says Pham is one in a million and the doctor would have never guessed someone could play baseball with his eye condition.

I have the same condition and got the same CXL procedure, and while it will never get better – and the contact issue is legit – SO FAR the procedure stops it from getting worse.

Personally I left him on the board just to see where someone else might take him. I considered popping him in the 4th (just outside the top 50).

Kind of surprised how low Judge is going considering that he turned it back on in September and it’s likely that his shoulder is mostly to blame for his struggles.

Agreed. It seems kinda crazy that Trea Turner is going so much higher than Judge. Sure Turner could still 50-60 bases. I’ll take the guy who 1) played a full season without getting hurt, 2) just authored a top 5 rookie season ALL-TIME!!! Even chipped in 9 steals for funsies.

It looks like most of these drafts are still ongoing; will the results be published upon completion? This is great work for those of us not looking forward to the purgatory of the offseason.

i just don’t see how you can reasonably draft 14 players ahead of manny machado (on average). dude’s babip craters and all of a sudden he’s just not tier 1 anymore? call me old fashioned, but ill take the 26 year old with MVP level talent coming off a down year over the guys who just had career years 10 times out of 10. and hey, he stole some bases again this year just for good measure.

Let’s say Conforto is ready and healthy by opening day, where would he be ADP-wise? 40-50?
