Various News and Notes
Mallex Smith went 2-four-3 and stole four bases on Monday. Smith had struggled mightily since being recalled from AAA, so this was a nice performance to help keep him up and in the lineup. He is hitting only .176 on the season, but he tend to walk enough to offset some of that batting average. Hopefully this is the beginning of a hot streak for the 26-year-old.

Jose LeClerc was removed from Monday’s game with cramping in his lower leg. There was some concern this was more serious after it had been reported he was dealing with shoulder soreness recently, but it appears to be more about dehydration than anything else.

Mitch Keller made his Major League debut and was hit around for six runs on seven hits and two walks in just four innings versus the Reds. He did record seven strikeouts in the game, which speaks to the upside, but he struggled in this start. Keller is a former top prospect that lost some of his hype due to injuries and underperformance. He has another start this week, but now that he is here, he will need to perform somewhat to stay up.

Luke Weaver was placed on the 10-Day IL with a strained forearm. This is always a concerning injury because it can be a precursor to Tommy John Surgery. However, manager Torey Lovullo stated on Monday that the while he is getting a second opinion, the team is hopeful that the injury will not require surgery. Consider him day-to-day for now.

Jon Gray was removed from his start on Monday with a finger issue. The issue is being characterized as a “hotspot” which would indicate the formation of a blister. Consider him day to day at this time.

Aaron Sanchez left his start on Sunday with a fingernail issue. This is the third time this season he has had to leave a start because of an issue related to his fingernail. However, Sanchez said after the game that this is not a big issue and the least impactful of all the finger issues he has had this season. Consider him day-to-day at this time.

He just hit waivers in my league. I am absolutely desperate for net-sb, but I don’t know if I am .176 avg/.257 obp (both stats count) desperate…

I did the same thing. I have … some regrets.
