Week 12 Two-Start Pitchers
Here is the last-minute look at the two-start pitchers for Week 12. First the starters who you may be on the fence about putting into your lineup:
Wade Davis – In his last three starts he is 0-3 with an 8.22 ERA. While he has two home starts this week, you might want to bench him until you see some better results.
Gio Gonzalez – Roughed up in his last two starts, both on the road, Gonzalez returns home for two games this week. In Oakland he has a 2.90 ERA in six games. Make sure he is active for games against the Reds and Pirates.
Jamie Moyer – A terrible outing against the Red Sox two starts ago has masked a string of solid pitching by Moyer since early May. Activate him for his two home starts this week.
Jon Niese – Since returning from the disabled list, Niese is 3-0 with a 1.57 ERA. He has a tough matchup against Justin Verlander in his first outing but has two home starts, where the Mets are 24-10. Keep him active this week.
Jason Vargas – Not everything has been disappointing this season in Seattle. Vargas has a 2.88 ERA and has hurled a Quality Start in 11 of his last 12 outings. Get him in your lineup for this week’s action against the Cubs and Brewers.
Other scheduled two-start pitchers in Week 12 are listed below. Please remember that these are projected pitchers and changes can and will happen during the week.

Now I want to provide some accountability and check in and see how previous recommendations turned out. There needs to be a two-week lag, since last week’s pitchers have not completed their second start yet. So here are Week 10 pitchers and how they fared.
Cueto – Advised to Start. W, 6.75 ERA, 11 Ks, 1.667 WHIP (2 starts)
E. Jackson – Advised to sit. 4.26 ERA, 9 Ks, 1.895 WHIP (2)
Lewis – Advised to sit. 2 W, 1.80 ERA, 15 Ks, 0.753 WHIP (2)
Matsuzaka – Advised to start. W, 0.00 ERA, 5 Ks, 0.750 WHIP (1)
Slowey – Advised to start. W, 3.86 ERA, 9 Ks, 1.143 WHIP (2)
How are people feeling about Tommy Hunter starting against the Pirates tomorrow and the Astros on Sunday?
I am feeling great about it, so long as he doesn’t hurt himself again.
ESPN is showing Chris Carpenter as starting Wednesday and Sunday. Have they announced skipping the 5th starter? I’m starting him either way, but if he’s got 2 starts, I’ll sit Wade Davis as I’ll be even with my opponent in total starts by using a 1 start pitcher in his place.
No SP starts Wednesday and Sunday, it’s 4 days rest.
Doesn’t everyone in a 5-man rotation pitch on 4 days rest?
Yeah; he means three days rest (Thursday, Friday, Saturday).
I’m aware of how unusual it is, but Tony LaRussa is an unusual man. Faced with having to run Jeff Suppan and Blake Hawksworth out there on consecutive days, I’d probably go to a 4 man rotation as well. A Hawksworth update from Sunday specifically says he may get a start against KC next weekend, but notes the Cards are using a 4 man rotation for now.
Even if he can go 4 man(doubtful), never will a SP go on 4 days, unless it’s like the playoffs.

This is incorrect. Exclusively off the top of my head, CC was pitching every other day it seemed like down the stretch for the brew crew in ’08. My opponent had him in the playoffs; it was miserable.
To be fair, that /was/ the playoffs for the Brewers. They needed to ride CC if they were to have any shot at the post-season. Rarely does a manager (these days) throw his starter out there on short rest in June.
I’m guessing something screwy with the projections on ESPN.
I also recall Livo going on 3 days earlier this year. Then again, it is Livo.
That being so, this is why statements to the effect of “never…” shouldn’t be tossed around. It isn’t completely improbable, as Dustin seemed to suggest, that Carp will go Wed/Sun. For owners in a weekly lineup league it could be significant.
I like Davis against the Pods tomorrow. they just dont scare me a bit on the road No bench for me.
Verlander on a major roll that he patents each year. Niese sits in this one.

Why sit a guy just because you think the other teams pitcher is on a roll? Niese could still help in the ratios and K categories.. Who knows, maybe he gets lucky and wins it 1-0 or 2-1…
True, but Niese was shaky in last anyway dn Verlander is right where we expect him to be at the moment.

I see Garcia coming down to earth tomorrow in a big way against the Jays, but I’m starting him tomorrow anyway with my fingers crossed.
Well, the Jays are putrid against lefties, and they strikeout a shit ton. I’m starting Moyer for the same reasons. That reminds me, I need to stock up on liquor after work today.
I’m being offered Buchholz for Shields in a non-keeper league. Should I hope for regression or make the deal.
