MLB has a “Suspended List” and an “Ineligible List”. The Suspended List is for minor disciplinary actions, and players on that list still take up a space on the 25-man roster. The Ineligible List is for players found guilty of “serious misconduct” – Wikipedia says this list is used for “gambling, tanking, bribery, violence to umpires” and so on. Players in the Ineligible List are not kept on the 25-man roster.
