“Don’t pay for saves” really comes to show the difference between Roto and H2H leagues. Arguably the type of league that is more common, a H2H will allow you to roll with closers you picked off the FA or got later in a draft because of the unpredictability of the Save. A team could have 4 top ranked closers and might still struggle against a team with 2-3 late round or FA pick up guys.
Because the league is set up for week to week, a team can get away with this. But in a roto league, you’re correct, you will be buried if you don’t get more reliable guys by punting the position.
yes it’s absolutely a roto v. h2h discussion and we should make sure to underscore in future convos about SVs! furthermore, we also discuss these big overall contests at the NFBC which are even more different than standard roto lgs in terms of getting your SVs
