The Daily Grind: Meager Monday

Another week, another grind, another couple home runs for Cody Bellinger.

1. Best Rivera?

Bellinger hitting multiple home runs is boring, no? What baseball needs is multi-homer games from card carrying backup catchers. When that happens, I’ll admit the ball is juice.

Oh!

When I saw the headline, “Rivera hits two home runs,” I assumed it was T.J. Rivera since he’s at least a decent hitter. Although he also seemingly doesn’t have the necessary power. The game’s gotten weird.

2. Weather Reports

Cleveland could land some rain pebbles and a kracko or two.

3. Pitchers to Use and Abuse

Main Slate: Only six games are DFS-able today. Chris Sales, Carlos Carrasco, Jose Berrios, and Cole Hamels are the available aces. Berrios is visiting Sale while Hamels’ return from the disabled list is in Cleveland. I’d probably steer clear of Hamels, especially if there’s any risk of rain. The Rangers will play it safe with their second ace.

German Marquez visiting Jeff Samardzija at AT&T Park offers an interesting pairing. The Giants have the worst offense against right-handed pitching by wRC+. Yep, that’s park adjusted, and they’re still the worst. Fear not, the Rockies are second worst. I’ve always felt wRC+ over-punishes the Rockies. In any case, we have a choice of two good pitchers at a spacious cove.

Jordan Montgomery is a favorite of mine this season. Unfortunately, he’s opposed by the White Sox. They’re far and away the best offense against lefties – at least to this point in the season. I don’t believe for a second they’ll remain the top lefty mashers. The game is at the GSpot. Montgomery regular succeeds at Yankee Stadium so I’m not too concerned about the venue.

Stack Targets: David Holmberg, Ricky Nolasco, Eddie Butler

4. Hitters to Use

Yankee stacks will be ridiculously popular. In a tiny slate, there’s nothing wrong with using one anyway. Just be sure to mix in a contrarian pick or two. Maybe Tyler Austin or Didi Gregorius to go with Gary Sanchez, Aaron Judge, Brett Gardner, and others.

Yasmani Grandal, Cody Bellinger, and other Dodgers have a pleasant matchup. They’re the other obvious stack.

The Nationals are the least interesting stack. Their stars are overly popular, and they’ll have to overcome four or more innings from the Cubs stacked bullpen. Still, players like Bryce Harper, Treat Turner, Ryan Zimmerman, and Daniel Murphy could lead their respective positions.

Big Cubs could bang a couple shots versus Gonzalez. Think Kris Bryant, Anthony Rizzo, and Ian Happ.

Matt Davidson is a beast versus left-handed pitching. If you’re not using Montgomery, you ought to consider Davidson.

If you plan to go contrarian by targeting an ace, might I recommend Hamels as the easy choice. The Indians offense has a few talented folks like Francisco Lindor, Jose Ramirez, Edwin Encarnacion, and Carlos Santana.

5. SaberSim Says…

Sale, Samardzija, Carrasco, Gio Gonzalez, and Rich Hill are the top rates throwers. I can see why the simulator would like Gonzalez since he’s likely to receive run support opposite Butler. The same goes for Hill, but I just don’t trust him to supply five strong innings. The bats are super obvious – Bryce Harper, Sanchez, Aaron Judge, Mookie Betts, and Matt Holliday.

6. The Daily Grind Invitational

Congrats to rpimple. Last Friday, he correctly combined Alex Wood, Logan Morrison, and Kyle Seager (121.2 of his 189.1 points). Leaderboard.

We’re on FanDuel today.

Will have to find more cheaper options. Austin is good but will have to find some 2-3k sleepers to win out today. Find some here http://dfsfreereport.com/get-free-access
