1. The Daily Grind Invitational

Last Friday, minihockey8 combined strong pitching from Lance McCullers and Zack Godley with solid across the board numbers from his hitters (except Kole Calhoun). Congrats and Leaderboard.

We’re mixing it up today with a 40-user, single-entry contest on FantasyDraft. You may not get two shots at the gold, but the overlay promises to be considerable.

If you have not signed up for FantasyDraft, please use this referral link for tracking purposes. If I understand properly, by using the referral, you will receive a 10 percent return on any rakes you pay.

Thumbs up!

3. Pitchers to Use and Abuse

Main Slate: Gerrit Cole ($25,500) and Clayton Kershaw ($24,900) lead the slate. On another site, Kershaw was a relative bargain, but he’s full priced on FantasyDraft. Too bad. A matchup versus the lowly Padres is still highly desirable. Cole has a tougher matchup against the Athletics.

Jose Berrios ($23,200) is ace-priced for a pairing opposite the Royals. While it’s an exciting opportunity for Berrios, I’m far more intrigued by $11,300 Danny Duffy. The second cheapest pitcher of the slate has looked much better in recent weeks. Nobody is more likely to put up two points per $1,000 even if a disasterpiece is also a part of the solution set.

Mike Clevinger ($21,900) seems slightly overpriced. He’ll host the Reds. Cincinnati has improved in recent weeks as more of their hitters and pitchers have regressed to their normal solid performance levels.

Eduardo Rodriguez ($15,900) is a GPP gem. The volatile lefty usually either dominates or flops. The strikeout prone Rangers make for a tasty target. Speaking of soft targets, Chris Archer ($15,900) is back from the disabled list in time to face the Detroit Mud Hens.

Aside from Duffy, I’d hesitate to reach past Andrew Suarez ($15,400) tonight. Although I always have concerns about pitchers facing the Cubs offense, the game is at pitcher friendly AT&T Park. Additionally, Suarez has demonstrated a useful blend of ground balls, strikeouts, and low walks – albeit with a low swinging strike rate.

Kershaw, Cole, Archer, E-Rod, and Kyle Hendricks are the preferred pitchers tonight. I guess I can jump on the Hendricks bandwagon too since the Giants lineup isn’t exactly ferocious. His command was down a grade the last time I watched him. Archer, E-Rod, and Hendricks are the top bargains. Bats include J.D. Martinez, Mookie Betts, Francisco Lindor, Jose Ramirez, and Max Muncy. Value hunters may try Colin Moran, Josh Bell, Justin Bour, and Derek Dietrich.

5. Dia De Los Santos

Over on my personal blog, I wrote about an upcoming prospect debut. Phillies right-handed pitcher Enyel De Los Santos figures to be a risky short term gamble with the potential for a considerable reward. Major DFS sites currently don’t have him in their player pool. Thus he may not be available for his major league debut tomorrow. If he is, look to him only if he’s priced among the cheapest assets. Those in traditional leagues should consider taking a flier.

In other news, Jesus Aguilar keeps on keepin’ on. It’s a good thing he’s hitting home runs because the guy has maybe 10 grade speed on the 20-80 scale. I haven’t seen a runner move that slowly since Bengie Molina.

Sabbathia an option against the lowly Baltimore offense for a QS? He’s been … pretty good.
