Taco Grande: Projections show very similar numbers for Josh Smith and Matt Shaw for the rest of this year, with an edge to Shaw on the bases. Meanwhile results 10 weeks in show Smith the better option in all categories except SB. Is Smith a clear upgrade for the rest of this year (except SB)? Who do you like more long term in a standard 5×5 deep league keeper format?

Jeff Zimmerman: I checked my valuations and I have Smith way ahead of Shaw

Ben: who benefits the most in the BOS lineup w/no Devers?

Jeff Zimmerman: No idea. My guess is they will rotate guys through the DH slot to start with, Yoshida taking over once healthy.

Mios…: Call me crazy, but why should I bid above min for a guy projecting for about 5 BB/9?

Jeff Zimmerman: Good question.

Jeff Zimmerman: I thought it would keep him in the minors over Henderson but I was wrong. I think some roto managers will take the K’s know they will take a WHIP hit.

Zulema: Herrera or O’Hoppe in the near future? I’m starting O but am thinking of starting Herrera. Each move costs money btw

Jeff Zimmerman: I’d just stay with O’Hoppe. Not enough of a gain

Mike Lowell: Ryan Walter seems to be missing tons of bats (17 whiffs, 17 called strikes vs MIN) and he’s walking almost nobody.  Given the crowd in the Houston rotation, how do you assess his opportunity to stay in the rotation deep into the season?  And how would you compare his ROS outlook to waiver wire options like R Gusto, Ryne Nelson and Bryce Elder?

Jeff Zimmerman: I love what Walter is doing and think he needs to be added everywhere. If there wasn’t a chance of being kicked out of the rotation, I value him even more.

Sam: Is Toro as flash in pan?  Will he now continue to get ABs w/o Devers in lineup?

Jeff Zimmerman: He will get at-bats as long as he keeps hitting

Randy: what % of FAAB for Misiorowski in 13 team mixed redraft?

Jeff Zimmerman: 10% to 15% of the original budget

Henry John: Do you think Harrison slots into the Red Sox rotation? Who would be the odd man out?

Jeff Zimmerman: He should, he could be the rotation’s second-best arm. We’ll just have to wait on the news conferences

A Man Called Otto: NL-only, scraping the barrel for 1B eligible players. Will the Phillies find a way to get Otto Kemp into the lineup when Harper returns?

Jeff Zimmerman: Possibly, there has been some talk of him going to the OF. He needs to start hitting.

Casperius the Friendly Ghost: How many weeks do we get of a Dodgers SP?  Over/under 2.5?

Jeff Zimmerman: One or two with Sheehan and Ohtani coming back.

Jeff Zimmerman: That assumes everyone stays healthy.

SF #5: Who’s SF’s #5 now, Carson Whisenhunt or waiting for Verlander or something eles?

Jeff Zimmerman: Verlander should be back this week or next according to news reports.

Giant moves: Giants use Boston-Devers rift as opportunity to get big bat they generally have trouble signing in free agency.  Chapman far superior fielder to Devers so once CHampman back, how does lineup shakeout?

Jeff Zimmerman: Devers to DH and Flores to 1B. Possibly another trade coming

Panik! At the Disco: WW options such as Jeff McNeill or Miguel Vargas for Matt Shaw or Jac C? Dang team ain’t hitting! Or stand pat? 12 tm H2H OBP categories.

Jeff Zimmerman: With these waiver wire options, I’d stream based on matchups

Post Hype 3Bs: If both are healthy, do you like N.Marte or R.Mauricio better?

Jeff Zimmerman: Marte, better playing guaranteed playing time.

Andrew Triggskaedekaphobia: Grant Holmes for real, or just the beneficiary of facing COL? Where would he be on your FAAB list?

Jeff Zimmerman: He’d be near the top. He’s a solid bench streamer.

kutz: Tylor Megill only a streamer in a 12tm?  love the Ks but everything else seems replaceable off the wire. Might be worth rolling the dice with B.Caspiurus types instead

Jeff Zimmerman: Yes, he’s fallen into that basket for me. Right now, he’s lined up to face the Phillies and Braves. Both are a pass for me in 12’s. I’ll find someone else.

E Carter: Time to trust that I’m back to 2022 form?

Jeff Zimmerman: Starting to look that way. Just respect the platoon.

Jeff Zimmerman: Depends on the replacement.

Joey Baggadonuts: Brady house worth a pickup if you have an open spot? Do you like him or Josh Jung better rest of season?

Jeff Zimmerman: I’d prefer Jung

Brooks Lee: Has been hot for 2 weeks. If it lasts much longer, he’s just good. So therefore it’s too late to grab him for a week? Or ride it until the wheels come off?

Jeff Zimmerman: With the Twins healthy, he was losing playing time to Lewis and others. With Lewis hurt again, Lee’s playing time is safe. I’m not sure he’s a talented hitter.

Adam: What’s your take on Sandy Alcantara? Been much better the last couple of starts against weak offenses. Starting to get back to his old self?

Jeff Zimmerman: I need to see if he’s back to throwing strikes.

Jeff Zimmerman: He was but against the Rockies and Pirates. I don’t buy he’s back but he might need to be added now in case it’s real

SV+Hlds AL Only: How do you approach getting holds off waivers in deep leagues? I have Okert who’s got great numbers but no holds and there are several guys with double digit holds (and suspect numbers on the wire (Weissert, Y. Cano, Zeferjahn, K. Akin). I don’t really really need the ratio help though – so should I just buy the guys who are getting / have gotten holds?

Jeff Zimmerman: My solution takes four downloads, so not easy. Basically it looks at talent and gLI (game leverage index) to see good pitchers who are being used in high leverage spots.

Craig Breslow: I just traded the face of the franchise for two failed pitchers, a future platoon bat, and a backend rotation prospect. Am I going to try to fix Hicks and put him in the rotation?

Jeff Zimmerman: It all depends are what is down the $15/year in savings. This year, it could be ugly

Jeff Zimmerman: All of it with enough left to allow for injury replacements.

Jeff Zimmerman: It wouldn’t deter me. Just a 22% K%, so pitchers are dominating him, just bad BABIP luck (.083 BABIP).

G Money: Is Brandon Walter a pick up in a 16 team league and wait to see what happens?

Jeff Zimmerman: Probably in all leagues

Just Joe: Jeff – Thanks as always for these support sessions.  How much ‘stepping away’ are you stepping away?  Permanent or partial?  Who is the next big pitcher that I need to blow my NFBC budget on?

Jeff Zimmerman: I’m going to go travel the world until I’m broke. It might be a month. It might the rest of life. I don’t know.

Avg: Would you prioritize Moreno or Alvarez in a 12 T ?

Jeff Zimmerman: Do you need power or speed?

Guest: an everywhere-add but no big faab spend even for a “need sp” team, is that you’re definition of a “flyer” maybe? i’m having trouble understanding, not doubting it as an approach tho

Jeff Zimmerman: We need about a month of info to get a good read on a pitcher. That’s too slow in the fantasy game. I was hot for Gordon based on just a couple of starts. I have no idea if he he’ll end up being good or not but to add him cheap, I have to move fast.

Jeff Zimmerman: Now with Misi, we have great AAA numbers and high prospect status. I’d pay up for him.
