Sunday Night Waiver Wire & FAAB Chat

7:32
Jeff Zimmerman: Welcome.

7:32
Jeff Zimmerman: Here are the winning bids in the two 15-team Tout Wars leagues.

7:32
Jeff Zimmerman:

7:34
Jeff Zimmerman: I’m enjoying caramel rum from a local distillery (Speedtrap). It’s by far their best offering right now.

7:34
Guest: Is luke Jackson still closing by end of season? Justin Martinez also or will it be a committee with Puk, ginkel and miller? Vest the man in Detroit ?

7:34
Jeff Zimmerman: No idea to any of them. If I knew, I’d win all my leagues.

7:34
Bob: Is Ryan Walker a good replacement for Jose Alvarado?

7:35
Jeff Zimmerman: Yes, I’m surprised Walker wasn’t rostered

7:35
Pancake Man: In a 10-team OBP would you drop TON for Jordan Beck?

7:35
Jeff Zimmerman: No, if he wasn’t already added, I would expect min bids

7:35
Grateful: Your articles and chats are appreciated Jeff.   In a 15 team
5 X 5 league (standard league with a 5 team bench), what percentage of FAAB (100 budget) would you spend for Birdsong or Abel if you a pitcher that is a must waive?

7:37
Jeff Zimmerman: I’ll start with Birdsong. A ton of people seem to like him but all my indicators point to him being a worse pitcher than Hicks. He’s buried at the bottom of my bid lists. You’ll need to find someone else to point to the merits of Birdsong.

7:39
Jeff Zimmerman: As for Abel, I’m guessing at least a 3% to 5% FAAB bid on him and would not be surprised with bids over 10%

7:39
ryan: already time to worry about standings and be more judicious with category specific adds? currently looking at a 25 pt deficit

7:40
Jeff Zimmerman: No but if a tie on talent, I’ll lean to the category I need. Someone in one of my leagues made up nine points today.

7:41
Johnny5Alive: Benson worth a look in nl only? Will he continue to get playing time when fraley comes back?

7:41
Jeff Zimmerman: He should remain as a strong-side platoon bat

7:41
Coyote Uggla: What percentage of starting FAAB to bid on Matt Shaw in 12 mixed? And what do you expect from him ROS?

7:42
Jeff Zimmerman: I’m not even interested with some of the 3B moving up. I don’t see Shaw much better than Wagaman, Andujar, Vargas, etc. I don’t see Shaw being better than them

7:43
2B or not 2B: NL-only roto, been accumulating 2B options to see who sticks. Who would you drop out of Hyeseong Kim, L. Acuna, or Otto Lopez?

7:43
Jeff Zimmerman: Acuna possibly Kim

7:43
spainard: Quality start leauge zebby logan henderson louis ortiz how would u rank them

7:44
Jeff Zimmerman: Henderson, Matthews …………………………..Ortiz

7:44
Carl: Moises Ballesteros, in an NL only 5×5 – worth it?    How about Abel?

7:44
Jeff Zimmerman: In most NL-only’s they both need to be rostered.

7:44
Finn: Thanks for the help, Jeff…do you prefer Will Warren or Dustin May?

7:45
Jeff Zimmerman: I have Warren over May in my rankings

7:45
Guest: Muncy or Vientos ROS obp league

7:45
Jeff Zimmerman: Muncy

7:45
Wes: Do you care more about Varsho’s elite new bat speed or hus 40%K rate? Small samples city

7:45
Jeff Zimmerman: I’ll always worry about the strikeouts first and foremost.

7:46
Guest: Do you think Slade Cecconi has the stuff to stay in the CLE rotation or is he destined for the bullpen?

7:46
Jeff Zimmerman: That rotation is trash right now. He might be the best arm in it. Bet on Cecconi

7:46
Jon: Would you drop Lawlar for Birdsong?

7:47
Jeff Zimmerman: I’d perfer to not have either one on my roster.

7:48
Jeff: Hello, fellow Jeff! Do youhave high hopes for Birdsong in the rotation? Where would he rank in this week’s FAAB article?

7:48
Jeff Zimmerman: I’d rank Birdsong right ahead of Kershaw

7:48
Hocking a Lugo: Anything to Matthew Lugo in Anaheim? Lots of k’s, a few home runs. Kyren Paris 2.0?

7:49
Jeff Zimmerman: I’m not interested at this moment.

7:49
Adenolith: What’s going on with Lawler? A must hold in 8 teamers?

7:50
Jeff Zimmerman: He has almost no fanasty value starting 3 times a week.

7:50
jimmy meatballz: vargas or larnach if you had to choose an OF?

7:50
Jeff Zimmerman: Larnach but I could see Vargas if the 3B flexibility helps

7:51
Alex: what are you doing with Tylor Megill and Bryan Reynolds? WW has streamers, not deep OF options

7:51
Jeff Zimmerman: I’m holding in most places. My WW options are … not good.

7:51
Redbull44: What’s your opinion on Javier Baez? Is anything sustainable? Or is the joyride over?

7:51
Jeff Zimmerman: I’m holding and haven’t looked at his recent production.

7:52
Jeff Zimmerman: A .944 OPS over the past week with just a 20% K%.

7:53
Ransofast: Drop Elko for Nolan Jones? Casparius for Paddack? (5×5 OBP, 16 teams)

7:53
Jeff Zimmerman: Sure on both

7:53
Chip Dipson: What to bid on Romano in a 12team OFC league?

7:54
Jeff Zimmerman: Some team just lost Alvardo. They will be going all in for Romano I expect desparate bids of 10% or way more.

7:54
Interesting Arm: Who’s the interesting arm? Slade C?

7:55
Jeff Zimmerman: Henderson, Romano, Abel, Matthews, Cameron, SLADE, etc

7:55
Keith Hernandez’ cat: The Guardians have messed with Bibee’s pitch mix, cutting his slider usage in half. Drop for any of Rasmussen, ASS or Weatgers

7:56
Jeff Zimmerman: I would for Smith-Shawver

7:56
Dr. Funk: TGFBI league, how much is Romano worth? How about Fitzgarld?

7:56
Jeff Zimmerman: I answered Romano. As for Fitzgerald, 2% should do it.

7:56
Cheese: Points league…  should I drop A Hays to add D Varsho?

7:56
Jeff Zimmerman: yes

7:56
Dave in slc: Nl only what % would you bid for lawlar and/or rushing?

7:57
Jeff Zimmerman: If keeper, 30%+ for both. Redraft, 15% to 20%

7:57
KCBBq: Burger available in 12 team AL only 5×5 H2H. How much would you throw at him? 39 of 100 FAAB left.

7:58
Jeff Zimmerman: With your budget, $15

7:58
Stan: would you drop N Marte (CIN) and on DL to stash M Shaw (CHC)?

7:58
Jeff Zimmerman: no

7:58
Dan in TX: Rank Tylor Magill, Weathers, Canning, Heaney

7:58
Jeff Zimmerman: Megill, Canning, Weathers, Heaney

7:58
Micah: OPS roto: Would you cut Barger, Baty, Bleday, or Horwitz for Vargas?

7:59
Jeff Zimmerman: Collecting all the B’s?  Any of them but Barger

7:59
Walt: dropping Durbin as MI…pick up L Urias or Horwitz?

7:59
Jeff Zimmerman: Both are improvements, I prefer Urias right now

8:00
Alex: 14 team league – drop megill or mahle for birdsong? or I can drop matt shaw instead

8:00
Jeff Zimmerman: No on all three

8:00
mark: trevor megill or Jordan Romano?

8:00
Jeff Zimmerman: Romano

8:01
Redbull44: What are your expectations for for Brooks Lee and Trevor Larnach ROS? Thanks

8:01
Jeff Zimmerman: I have high expectation and they should be rostered in most leagues

8:02
Cheese: Caglianone promo’d to AAA today.  What hitting prospect are you most excited to see come up this year, not named R Anthony?

8:02
Jeff Zimmerman: I’m biased, Jacob Melton. I have him on way too many DC’s

8:02
Micah: Any hope for Baz to bounce back and be a top 40 SP?

8:03
Jeff Zimmerman: Not really

8:03
The Air There: Ok to start W.Warren next week, w 2nd start in Col?

8:03
Jeff Zimmerman: I’m not worried about it

8:03
bobbo: Josh Jung will be a top ____ 3B ROS

8:03
Jeff Zimmerman: 24

8:03
Sal: Thanks for answering our questions! In a high stakes 15 team league where everyone can use starting pitching, what kind of bid are you making on Weathers out of approximately $700 remaining budget?

8:06
Jeff Zimmerman: It’s going to be a ton, some places are predicting over $200. I’m not sold on him staying healthy and maintaining his velo.

8:07
Jeff Zimmerman: I’d rather take a chance on five $40 arms than one $200 one.

8:07
Ed: Thanks for doing these chats – extremely helpful!  Quick question, will Justin Martinez assume the closer role one activated later this week?

8:07
Jeff Zimmerman: All quotes and news points to yes.

8:08
Becca: love your chats, Jeff! You think Gallen is a strong buy-low? Wound you offer Mahle for him in a redraft 12 teamer?

8:09
Jeff Zimmerman: My system is not a fan, especially when taking the walks into account.

8:09
Jeff Zimmerman: right now I have him as a 4.30 ERA talent

8:09
He’s the DJ: DJ LeMahieu or Rowdy Tellez in al only obp league?

8:10
Jeff Zimmerman: Tellez, especially taking this week into account

8:10
Guest: McMahon or Tovar this week in coors..obp league

8:11
Jeff Zimmerman: Yes on both. I’d lean Tovar who might be useful away from Coors

8:11
Bog: I have Adley in a keeper but he has been so brutal for a long time now. Would you drop for any of Wells, Murphy, Baldwin, Dingler, Moreno, Kirk?

8:11
Jeff Zimmerman: I’d try to trade him. Someone will hope for rebound

8:11
EdOtt: Pfaadt seems like a 4 era 8K/9 blah pitcher.  Drop for Darvish or Zebby?

8:12
Jeff Zimmerman: I’m not sure Mathews or Darvish are much more than that.

8:12
Why not Zoidberg?: In a shallow h2h league with guys like Vientos, Burger, Winn, and J. Lowe available, would you still be holding L. Robert and Lawler?

8:12
Jeff Zimmerman: drop Lawler

8:13
larry: Do you think Soderstrom is replacement level now or park on bench and hope he starts hitting HR’s again, Yahoo 12t h2h cat. league. Thank you. It’s great you take the time to listen to us.

8:14
Jeff Zimmerman: The process stats on Soderstrom seem fine, maybe even better than his hot streak. I’d need a obvious upgrade to cut

8:14
Yordone: Hearing the Astros talk about the minor-ness of yordan’s hand injury and then a week later that he’s just not quite ready yet is giving me Kyle Tucker ptsd flashbacks.

8:15
Jeff Zimmerman: It’s total BS. They have zero trust right now.

8:15
Jonny: Is Keith a Cronenworth clone or hope for more still? Which you prefer in 12s

8:15
Jeff Zimmerman: I’d prefer Cronenworth

8:15
Daro: Hoerner or Campbell h2h ROS? 12 teams league

8:15
Jeff Zimmerman: Hoerner

8:15
Kody Clemens: Kody Clemens very hot in Minnesota. Him or aforementioned Rowdy Tellez?

8:16
Jeff Zimmerman: Clemens for the simple reason he’s about to get 2B, might have 10 games after today.

8:17
Mark: Be patient with Giolito or look for better options?  Thanks

8:17
Jeff Zimmerman: Even in my deepest leagues, I found options for Giolito

8:17
Luis McLain: L Urias or McLain ROS?

8:17
Jeff Zimmerman: McLain but it’s closer than it should be

8:18
KCBBq: Would you drop McClanahan (on my reserve list) in a 12 team AL only H2H keeper league with the idea of requiring next week? Have him at $5 but his salary goes to $10 if I keep him. His recent set back has me thinking he won’t be back till after AS break. If I get him back for single digits I get him for 2 years at same salary vs the increase to $10

8:18
Jeff Zimmerman: Go for it, if you ain’t cheating, you ain’t trying

8:18
Larry: Any reason to hold Mullins in shallow leagues?

8:19
Jeff Zimmerman: Lots but depends on the options.

8:19
See Double U Ess: AL Only. Hold Booser and hope for a save in Chicago or just stream the spot (Paddack, Cannon, Cameron best options)

8:19
Jeff Zimmerman: Stream with Cannon

8:20
foptop: Thanks for doing these. Please rank Luis Robert, Victor Scott, Chandler Simpson ROS

8:20
Jeff Zimmerman: That’s the order

8:20
Yeah Well Hiura Towel: Is Luis Castillo droppable in 12T? Have a roster crunch. Could drop Gonsolin

8:21
Jeff Zimmerman: I’d drop Castillo before Gonsolin

8:21
LenFuego: ROS (5×5):  Tim Elko or Addison Barger?

8:21
Jeff Zimmerman: Barger and it’s not close

8:21
comish4lif: Do you think Ohtani will pitch before the All Star Break? After? Or not at all?

8:21
Jeff Zimmerman: All reports put him throwing around the ASG

8:21
Larry: Are you dropping altuve anytime soon in 12 team leagues? He’s been awful. Replacements would be lowe, india, Fitzgerald, brooks lee

8:22
Jeff Zimmerman: Is anyone active in your league? You could just stream this position depending on the matchups

8:22
Alec Leamas: Lots of good bats catching these days. Please rank Agustin Ramirez, Drake Baldwin, Dalton Rushing, Moises Ballesteros. Thanks!

8:23
Jeff Zimmerman: You have them in my order. Ramirez is way ahead of the other three

8:23
Bobby Ayala: Are we out on Landen Roupp?

8:24
Jeff Zimmerman: It comes down to league depth. For now, I have him graded higher than Birdsong

8:24
ZP: Is there anything real about Alexander Canario’s game?

8:24
Jeff Zimmerman: Volume, he’s playing every game.

8:24
Guest: Cameron or Abel ROS? Do either have a rotation spot for long?

8:25
Jeff Zimmerman: Abel has more talent than Cameron but with two of KC’s arms on the IL, I think Cameron will get more starts

8:25
Oof: Thanks Jeff! Drop hays for beck or josh Lowe points leagues?

8:25
Jeff Zimmerman: sure

8:26
Tim: Slade next 3 are DET, LAD, NYY. worth the risk in AL only?

8:26
Jeff Zimmerman: At this point of the season, I’m still trying to add talented arms and worry about the matchups later

8:27
Logan Evans: Logan Evans is @CWS and home for WAS next. Where would he fit into your (essential) Waiver Wire piece?

8:28
Jeff Zimmerman: Still near the bottom. I grade him out as a 4.66 ERA talent and the odds on the game are …

8:29
Jeff Zimmerman: Barely lean to the Mariners. Not worth it for me.

8:29
Jeff Zimmerman: That’s it for tonight and good luck with your bidding.
