Starting Pitcher Chart – September 19th

Thomas Shea-USA TODAY Sports

Daily SP Chart archive

The chart includes their season performance, their opponent’s wOBA versus the pitcher’s handedness over the last 30 days, my general start/sit recommendation for 10-team, 12-team, and 15-team (or more) leagues, and then a note about them. Obviously, there are league sizes beyond those three so it’s essentially a shallow, medium, deep. If a pitcher only has an “x” in 15-team, it doesn’t mean there’s no potential use in 10s and 12s, but it’s basically a risky stream for those spots.

These are general recommendations, and your league situation will carry more weight whether you are protecting ratios or chasing counting numbers. This is for standard 5×5 roto leagues. The thresholds for H2H starts are generally lower, especially in points leagues so I thought there would be more value focusing on roto.

Starter Notes September 19, 2023
RK PITCHER GAME 10 12 15+ IP ERA WHIP K-BB wOBA RK L30/Season NOTE
Luis Castillo SEA at OAK x x x 181 3.08 1.04 21% 19th/29th
Spencer Strider ATL v PHI x x x 169 3.73 1.08 30% 2nd/7th Closes w/2 starts v. WSN after this (if he makes his start next wk, they could feasibly rest him)
Ryan Pepiot LAD v DET x x x 27 2.00 0.63 20% 28th/28th 1 bad inning (3 ER) v. SDP is the only blemish since Aug. 19th recall (2.00 ERA/0.63 WHIP)
Blake Snell SDP v COL x x x 167 2.43 1.22 18% 24th/29th
Zac Gallen ARI v SFG x x x 192 3.50 1.11 20% 18th/20th
Braxton Garrett MIA v NYM x x x 149 3.67 1.16 19% 13th/21st
Kenta Maeda MIN at CIN x x x 96 4.50 1.22 20% 21st/14th
Logan Allen CLE at KCR x x x 122 3.60 1.35 14% 16th/25th
Yusei Kikuchi TOR at NYY x x x 153 3.81 1.25 18% 10th/6th
Clarke Schmidt NYY v TOR x x 146 4.56 1.34 16% 14th/11th Rebounded after the ATL dud w/a 3.77 ERA, 1.28 WHIP, 17% K-BB in 20 IP
Alex Cobb SFG at ARI x x 149 3.62 1.30 15% 17th/12th
Hunter Brown HOU v BAL x x 146 4.61 1.34 19% 6th/16th 5 no-hit IP v. OAK doesn’t fully regain my confidence in him but Ks & a decent W chance are worth the stream
Eduardo Rodriguez DET at LAD x x 135 3.32 1.15 16% 19th/4th No shame in skipping LAD, espec. w/his bumpy control of late (15% BB in L4)
Joey Lucchesi NYM at MIA x x 35 2.83 1.26 8% 26th/11th Looked great in his return w/7 pseudo-scoreless (1 UER) IP v. ARI
Javier Assad CHC v PIT x x 95 3.10 1.25 8% 20th/22nd Dud in Coors was kind of expected and doesn’t bother me
Adrian Houser MIL at STL x x 95 4.53 1.46 13% 23rd/8th Solid streamer if your waiver wire is light on options
Taj Bradley TBR v LAA x x 90 5.56 1.41 20% 26th/13th
Tanner Houck BOS at TEX x 93 4.94 1.33 13% 11th/3rd Still nervous facing Texas, but he was great last time out (6 IP/0 ER/7 Ks v. NYY)
Nathan Eovaldi TEX v BOS x 130 2.96 1.09 15% 8th/6th Reached 73 pitches in his last start so should have enough in the tank for 5 IP if he’s throwing well v. his former club
Cristopher Sánchez PHI at ATL 87 3.40 1.05 20% 4th/1st Held his own v. ATL last start but it’s still SUPER risky; 2 v. NYM to close out makes him worth holding
Kyle Gibson BAL at HOU 175 4.98 1.32 13% 1st/9th Maybe in Hail Mary mode, but he can sink you in a matchup like this
Ben Lively 라이블리 CIN v MIN 81 5.11 1.31 16% 5th/5th Has gone bulk IP in his last 2 w/decent results (6 ER in 10 IP, but a 1.00 WHIP and 9 Ks)… I could see a Hail Mary throw
Bailey Falter PIT at CHC 77 4.40 1.30 13% 12th/12th Duds v. ATL & CHC are the only blemishes in 37 IP since his return (3.62 ERA, 1.16 WHIP, 14% K-BB) but obviously he gets one of those tms again here
Patrick Sandoval LAA at TBR 136 4.48 1.50 9% 8th/9th
Paul Blackburn OAK v SEA 95 4.14 1.54 14% 7th/15th

Jackson Rutledge WSN v CHW 3 17.18 3.00 5% 27th/30th
Drew Rom STL v MIL 22 5.96 1.76 5% 5th/19th
José Ureña CHW at WSN 28 8.48 1.88 3% 29th/25th
