Starting Pitcher Chart – August 13th

Daily SP Chart archive
The chart includes their season performance, their opponent’s wOBA versus the pitcher’s handedness over the last 30 days, my general start/sit recommendation for 10-team, 12-team, and 15-team (or more) leagues, and then a note about them. Obviously, there are league sizes beyond those three so it’s essentially a shallow, medium, deep. If a pitcher only has an “x” in 15-team, it doesn’t mean there’s no potential use in 10s and 12s, but it’s basically a risky stream for those spots.
These are general recommendations, and your league situation will carry more weight whether you are protecting ratios or chasing counting numbers. This is for standard 5×5 roto leagues. The thresholds for H2H starts are generally lower, especially in points leagues so I thought there would be more value focusing on roto.

RK | PITCHER | TM | OPP | 10 | 12 | 15+ | IP | ERA | WHIP | K-BB | wOBA RK | NOTE | |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
1 | Tyler Glasnow | TBR | at | SFG | x | x | x | 68.2 | 3.15 | 1.08 | 27% | 30th | 3 straight 7 IP gems and hasn’t allowed >3 ER in his L7 (2.08 ERA, 0.90 WHIP in 43 IP) |
2 | Framber Valdez | HOU | at | MIA | x | x | x | 142 | 3.30 | 1.09 | 19% | 15th | A pair of 6 ER starts sandwich his no-hitter w/4 HRs in those outings |
3 | Miles Mikolas | STL | OAK | x | x | x | 141.1 | 4.20 | 1.28 | 12% | 21st | Nice streaming option w/OAK & NYM at home this week | |
4 | Max Fried | ATL | NYY | x | x | x | 36 | 2.50 | 1.06 | 21% | 6th | One up, one down in his 2 starts since the IL return… easily back in every lineup | |
5 | Braxton Garrett | MIA | HOU | x | x | x | 117 | 4.08 | 1.19 | 22% | 2nd | Bruuutal 2-step (at LAD this wknd), but I’m rolling w/him in most spots (19% K-BB in L7 despite 5.35 ERA) | |
6 | Max Scherzer | TEX | LAA | x | x | x | 120.2 | 3.88 | 1.18 | 21% | 13th | First big test w/TEX after CHW, OAK to start | |
7 | Yu Darvish | SDP | BAL | x | x | x | 120.1 | 4.19 | 1.25 | 17% | 26th | Continues to face a gaunlet, he’s been great v. TEX, LAD, and SEA in his L3 | |
8 | Grayson Rodriguez | BAL | at | SDP | x | x | x | 74 | 5.84 | 1.49 | 15% | 14th | Velo is +1 mph since his recall at 98.2 mph and is driving a strong performance (3.45 ERA in 5 starts) |
9 | Brady Singer | KCR | SEA | x | x | x | 128.1 | 5.05 | 1.37 | 12% | 8th | Another QS (3 of L4) and big W at BOS adds some confidence | |
10 | Emerson Hancock | SEA | at | KCR | x | x | x | 5 | 1.80 | 1.00 | 0% | 7th | Only had a 1:1 K/BB but showed a nice 4-pitch mix in his MLB debut |
11 | Carlos Carrasco | NYM | PIT | x | 81.1 | 6.42 | 1.60 | 6% | 16th | It was a nice start v. CHC, but I’m only throwing this in Hail Mary situations (at STL this wknd) | |||
12 | Clarke Schmidt | NYY | at | ATL | 115 | 4.23 | 1.29 | 16% | 2nd | Just can’t run non-aces v. ATL | |||
13 | JP Sears | OAK | at | STL | 125.2 | 4.23 | 1.12 | 17% | 7th | This Cards offense is still good so I’m reluctant to get too risky against them (Bal this wknd) | |||
14 | Merrill Kelly 켈리 | ARI | at | COL | 118 | 3.05 | 1.17 | 16% | 27th | He’s having a fantastic year, but I’m sitting him at COL/at SDP | |||
15 | Patrick Sandoval | LAA | at | TEX | 109.2 | 3.86 | 1.37 | 10% | 10th | It’s hard to just ignore his 1.86 ERA, 1.03 WHIP over the L5, but it’s just an 11% K-BB and leaves me fading him | |||
16 | Sean Manaea | SFG | TBR | 77.2 | 5.10 | 1.27 | 20% | 29th | Even if I thought I could get 4-5 solid IP here, I can’t do it w/ATL lurking on the wknd | ||||
17 | Chris Flexen 플렉센 | COL | ARI | 55.2 | 7.92 | 1.94 | 5% | 22nd | No thanks | ||||
18 | Quinn Priester | PIT | at | NYM | 23.2 | 8.75 | 1.90 | 4% | 25th | Has allowed fewer than 4 ER just once in 5 starts |
You convinced me to roll with Braxton Garrett, especially since the alternative was two or three innings from Andrew Chafin. Sure hope it works out.
And Garrett with the win tonight. Thanks, Paul!
