Starting Pitcher Chart – April 4th, 2024

Daily SP Chart archive
The chart includes their last season performance until we get some actual data for this year, their opponent’s wOBA versus the pitcher’s handedness from last year (and then I’ll add the last 30 days outlook next month), my general start/sit recommendation for 10-team, 12-team, and 15-team (or more) leagues, and then a note about them (notes will be more statistical-based once we get some sample to work with). Obviously, there are league sizes beyond those three so it’s essentially a shallow, medium, deep. If a pitcher only has an “x” in 15-team, it doesn’t mean there’s no potential use in 10s and 12s, but it’s basically a riskier stream for those spots.
These are general recommendations, and your league situation will carry more weight whether you are protecting ratios or chasing counting numbers. This is for standard 5×5 roto leagues. The thresholds for H2H starts are generally lower, especially in points leagues so I thought there would be more value focusing on roto.
With so few games tomorrow, it is easier to just do quick notes on the pitchers going instead of going through the whole charting process. I’ve also been dealing with some nasty neck pain today so that was also a factor in taking this easy route for the tiny slate!
Pablo López MIN v. CLE – A fantasy ace; must-start. Reco: All
Tanner Bibee CLE at MIN – An easy auto-start in all formats despite the ugly debut in Oakland. Obviously, we aren’t moving too much off a single start for anyone, but that is especially so for guys like Bibee who we paid a premium for at the draft table. Eventually sunk cost principles come into play, but we’re not there yet. We’d barely blink at this outing – even against an easy opponent – in June, so we’re not going to overreact in April. Stay patient. Reco: All
Seth Lugo KCR v. CHW – Lugo is no worse than a Team Streamer is all formats right now (meaning you can spot start him in shallower leagues, but don’t cut him during the starts you’re passing on) and a pretty easy start in a good number of formats. Reco: All
Casey Mize DET at NYM – Third time is a charm with Mize? I’ve recommended him across the board the last two days prior to the rainouts and we’re obviously not moving off now! Reco: All
Matt Manning DET at NYM – Skubal has been pushed to Friday for the home opener giving Manning a chance at a spot start. I’m willing to stream him everywhere, but keep in mind this is a one-and-done until there’s an actual opening in the rotation. Reco: All
Lance Lynn STL v. MIA – When he keeps the ball in the park, he’s still a solid arm. I’m definitely down to run him against the Marlins. Reco: All
Ryan Weathers MIA at STL – Not a great debut v. Pittsburgh, but a) I think the Pirates are sneaky tough so I don’t hold it against him too much and b) while I respect the Cards lineup as solid, I’m not totally fearful of them. Reco: 12s and deeper
Adrian Houser NYM v. DET – Certainly streamable given how unimpressive Detroit’s offense has been to start the season. He’s been a pretty solid streamer over the last 3 seasons. Reco: 12s and deeper
Martín Pérez PIT at WSN – The matchup is pretty good, buuuttt Pérez’s upside is modest so I’m not that interested in streaming him. Maybe in a deeper points league where basically any decent 5-inning outing has some value. Reco: Maybe 15s and deeper
Josiah Gray WSN v. PIT – This is essentially the inverse of Pérez where there is some upside for a big outing given Gray’s strikeout potential, but I don’t really like the matchup so I can only really recommend him in deeper formats, if at all. Reco: Maybe 15s and deeper
José Buttó NYM v. DET – It looks like Jose Quintana is moved to Friday. I’m not starting Buttó anywhere. Reco: None
Michael Soroka CHW at KCR – Pass in all formats. Reco: None
This doesn’t seem the easy route to me, I like the paragraph analysis
Yes, me too.
Agree….like this format a bit better.
Consider this a vote for the table format. But appreciated either away!
