Closer Chaos

Edwin Díaz is expected to be activated from the IL later this week. He will pitch in back-to-back games in the minors prior to returning so if there are not any setbacks he should return during the weekend. It remains to be seen if he will reenter the closing picture right away or work in lower leverage outings to start. He should be stashed if he was dropped in leagues when he was placed on the IL.

Quick Hits

Taylor Walls was placed on the 10-Day IL with a hip strain. The hope is he will be back after a minimum stay which would make him eligible on September 16 since the move was backdated. Nick Madrigal was recalled to take Walls’ spot on the roster.

Shea Langeliers is expected to begin a minor league rehab assignment on Thursday and could return to the Athletics next week. This is surprising news as it seemed like he was out for the rest of the season. He should be a priority pickup as a stash play for the last few weeks of the season.

Gunnar Henderson left Tuesday’s game with a knee injury after fouling a pitch off of it.

Henderson stated after the game that he thinks it will be a day-to-day injury so it appears he has avoided anything serious.

Blaze Alexander left Tuesday’s game with back spasms. There was no update on him after the game. Consider him day-to-day at this time.

Jazz Chisholm Jr. left Tuesday’s game with a thumb injury.

Manager Aaron Boone stated that Chisholm jammed his thumb and experienced some numbness. He is expected to be reevaluated on Wednesday. Consider him day-to-day at this time.

Various News and Notes
Kody Clemens went 1-for-3 with a home run in the victory over the Tigers on Tuesday.

Clemens has quietly been very good for fantasy, hitting .238/.300/.468 with 25 home runs and eight stolen bases in 518 plate appearances. He has eligibility at 1B, 2B, and OF and actually has been a bit unlucky in the BABIP department and could improve in the average rest of the way and in 2027. He is 30-years-old so there is no guarantee the Twins commit to him as they continue a rebuild, but if he has a full time role, he will likely be undervalued at the draft table.

Yohandy Morales went 1-for-4 with a home run in the loss to the Padres on Tuesday.

Morales has been great since his callup, hitting .375/.375/.875 with three home runs in 16 plate appearances. Morales has a ton of power, but he swings and misses a ton. He has a 50% strikeout rate since the callup and his swinging strike rate is over 20%. If he cannot make more contact, he will struggle and lose playing time.

Streaming Pitchers (Under 50% in Yahoo)

Pitcher for Today: Will Warren vs COL

Warren has been up and down this season, but getting the Rockies away from Coors in a juicy matchup is worth attacking.

Other Options: Zebby Matthews at DET, Kade Anderson vs TEX, Cal Quantrill at SEA, Andre Pallante at SF.

Pitcher for Tomorrow: None

This is a very short slate with few options.

Other Options: Jared Jones at CHW

For those of you that would like to see how these picks play out, I have a doc I put together to track the stats from my recommended pitchers. It does not include the “Other Options.”

Under pitchers for today, you list Cal Quantrill @ SEA, but he went yesterday. It’s Cody Bradford going today – did you mean to list him instead?
