Roto Riteup: September 6, 2024

How do we feel about Paw Patrol?

On the Agenda:

  1. Closer Chaos
  2. Quick Hits
  3. Various News and Notes
  4. Streaming Pitchers

Closer Chaos

Aroldis Chapman threw two-thirds of an inning, allowing no hits or walks while striking out one to register the save for the Pirates on Thursday.

With David Bednar losing the closer job, Chapman appears to be the main reliever to get saves moving forward. Chapman isn’t the pitcher he was in his prime, but he should have a lot of value for saves down the stretch.

Quick Hits
Max Kepler was placed on the IL with a knee injury. There is no timetable for his return but this makes him droppable in all formats. DaShawn Keirsey Jr. was recalled to take his spot on the roster.

Various News and Notes
Rhett Lowder threw 6.1 scoreless innings versus the Astros on Thursday, allowing four hits and four walks while striking out three in the no-decision.

Lowder pitched well, getting a 30% CSW on his fastball, but he has struggled with his control in his first two Major League starts, walking 8 in 10.1 innings. He has shown better control in the minors, so hopefully this is nerves and not a sign of things to come because his stuff is pretty good.

Edouard Julien went 1-for-4 with a home run in the victory over the Rays on Thursday.

Julien has had a disappointing sophomore season, but there is a great approach and power in the bat if he can make more consistent contact. He will be someone to watch down the stretch and in spring training to see if he can make some changes.

Streaming Pitchers (Under 50% in CBS)

Pitcher for Today: DJ Herz at PIT

Herz has pitched well lately and gets a bad Pirates team in a good park

High Risk Options: Frankie Montas vs COL, Dean Kremer vs TB, Zebby Matthews at KC, Luis Ortiz vs WAS, Matthew Boyd at LAD, Edward Cabrera vs PHI, Mitch Spence vs DET, Landon Knack vs CLE.

Pitcher for Tomorrow: Mitchell Parker at PIT

Parker has gotten back on track and has a nice matchup.

High Risk Options: Jack Leiter vs LAA, Alex Cobb at LAD, Alec Marsh vs MIN, Bant Hurter at OAK, Cooper Criswell vs CHW.

For those of you that would like to see how these picks play out, I have a doc I put together to track the stats from my recommended pitchers. It does not include the “High Risk Options.”
