Quick Hits

Wilmer Flores was placed on the 10-Day IL with a hamstring strain. There is no timetable for his return.

Brett Anderson was placed on the IL with a shoulder bruise. There is no timetable for his return, but it doesn’t sound like he should be out long.

Brad Hand was claimed off of waivers by the Mets on Thursday. Hand has struggled mightily since being traded to the Blue Jays to the point where they just let him go. He will likely be in low leverage spots in the New York bullpen.

Wander Franco left Thursday’s game due to a headache. This doesn’t seem like a big issue, so hopefully he will be back in the lineup on Friday.

Various News and Notes

Eric Lauer threw seven innings against the Giants, allowing one run on three hits and a walk while striking out four.

Lauer was really effective and efficient in the outing, keeping the Giants off balanced. His cutter was especially effective, sporting a 32% CSW. Lauer has been really good this year, but largely ignored by the fantasy industry. He will be an underrated pitcher coming into 2022.

Triston McKenzie threw six innings, allowing one run on two hits and a walk in the victory over the Royals.

McKenzie was absolutely nasty once again, which was great to see in his first start back from injury. After a rough start to the season, he has been amazing in the month of August throwing five straight quality starts with just seven earned runs in 34 innings and 34 strikeouts. Talent has never been the question for him and if he can stay healthy, he will be a star.

Streaming Pitchers (Under 50% in CBS)

Pitcher for Today: Nestor Cortes vs BAL

Cortes has been great in the Yankees rotation and he has a great matchup here.

High Risk Options: Tyler Anderson at ARI, Alec Mills vs PIT, Antonio Senzatela vs ATL, Glenn Otto at LAA, Steven Brault at CHC, Tyler Alexander at CIN.

Pitcher for Tomorrow: Reynaldo Lopez at KC

Lots of high risk options, but Lopez is among the best.

High Risk Options: Daniel Lynch vs CHW, Jesus Luzardo vs TEX, Matthew Boyd at CIN, Adrian Houser vs STL, Eli Morgan at BOS.

For those of you that would like to see how these picks play out, I have a doc I put together to track the stats from the recommended pitchers. It does not include the “High Risk Options.”
