Thank You

This is my final Roto Riteup of the season. Over the last six months it has been my pleasure to bring you this daily article along with my colleague Nicklaus Gaut. We appreciate each and everyone of you for reading along and supporting our and all of our colleagues’ work here at FanGraphs. See you next season!

Closer Chaos

You Aren't a FanGraphs Member
It looks like you aren't yet a FanGraphs Member (or aren't logged in). We aren't mad, just disappointed.

Tyler Wells pitched a perfect ninth inning versus the Red Sox on Thursday to register the save. Wells likely isn’t going to be taking over the closer role for the Orioles, but this is a good sign that he is back to pitching well since returning from the minors. He will likely be in the mix for a rotation spot next season.

Quick Hits

The Marlins/Mets game was suspended due to rain on Thursday night in the ninth inning. The game will resume if it is necessary for the Wild Card race on Monday.

Chris Martin was placed on the IL with an infection. This will end his season.

Logan Webb will not make his start on Sunday, ending his season.

Jeff McNeil was placed on the IL with an elbow strain. He reportedly has a partial tear of his UCL. If he needs Tommy John surgery, he could miss the beginning of the 2024 season.

The Brewers will not start either Freddy Peralta or Brandon Woodruff this weekend as they realign their rotation for the playoffs.

Various News and Notes
Luis Medina threw six innings in a no-decision versus the Twins, allowing one run on three hits and three walks while striking out four on Thursday.

https://x.com/PitchingNinja/status/1707452380126630339?s=20

Medina has been up and down this season, but has shown flashes of the strikeout stuff that made him a former top pitching prospect. He continues to struggle with his control, but there is upside in the profile and he is only 24-years-old.

Elehuris Montero went 3-for-4 with a home run in the victory over the Dodgers on Thursday.

Montero has only been a part time player for the Rockies this season, but he has shown some decent pop. The Rockies are home for the rest of the season and he could be a short term streaming option in deeper leagues for the final few games.

Streaming Pitchers (Under 50% in CBS)

Pitcher for Today: Cal Quantrill at DET

Quantrill has pitched well and gets a bad Tiger offense.

High Risk Options: John Mean vs BOS, Tylor Megill vs PHI, Nick Martinez at CHW, Ken Waldichuk at LAA, Chase Silseth vs OAK.

Pitcher for Tomorrow: Cristopher Sanchez at NYM

Sanchez has been shaky lately but he is coming off of a fantastic 10 strikeout matchup versus these same Mets.

High Risk Options: Kutter Crawford at BAL, Zack Littell at TOR, Joe Boyle at LAA, Kenny Rosenberg vs OAK, Connor Phillips at STL.

For those of you that would like to see how these picks play out, I have a doc I put together to track the stats from my recommended pitchers. It does not include the “High Risk Options.”
