Closer Chaos
J.B. Wendelken threw a perfect ninth inning against the Braves to register the save on Thursday. Tyler Clippard was likely just unavailable after pitching the day before, but Wendelken not only appears to be the next man up, but he may be the favorite for saves heading into 2022 with Clippard and much of the “proven” guy in the Arizona bullpen free agents after this season.
Quick Hits
Darin Ruf 러프 was placed on the 10-Day IL with an oblique strain. This likely ends his season.
Lourdes Gurriel Jr. left Thursday’s game with a hand injury after being stepped on in the outfield by Randal Grichuk.

X-rays were negative after the game, but he did require stitches in his middle finger. Consider him day-to-day for now.
Max Kepler left Thursday’s game with a non-COVID-19 related illness. Consider him day-to-day for now.
Various News and Notes
Chris Bassitt returned from the IL and threw three scoreless innings, allowing one hit and a walk while striking out four.

Bassitt is returning from a fractured jaw and cheekbone and looked pretty good in spite of working with a little bit of reduced velocity. Bassitt didn’t do a rehab assignment so he is still working his way back, but he should be more stretched out for his next start and should be picked up in any leagues he was dropped in.
Michael Kopech threw two scoreless innings, striking out four without allowing a base runner.

Kopech was fantastic in the outing and there is talk the White Sox will continue to stretch him out over his last few appearances this season. He is a huge post hype sleeper heading into 2022.

Pitcher for Today: Jose Suarez vs SEA
Suarez has been great recently and has a decent matchup versus the Mariners.
High Risk Options: J.A. Happ at CHC, Paolo Espino at CIN
Pitcher for Tomorrow: Eric Lauer vs NYM
I don’t even understand how Lauer is still under 50% rostered at this point.
High Risk Options: Tyler Anderson at LAA, John Lester at CHC, Eli Morgan vs CHW, Adrian Sampson 샘슨 vs STL.
