Various News and Notes
James Paxton is expected to start on Monday after missing the last couple of weeks with pneumonia. While Paxton will likely not have a full workload, he should be able to give fantasy owners some innings down the stretch as he is scheduled for a two-start final week.

Starling Marte was removed from Sunday’s game after experiencing tightness in his calf. There was no update on the injury after the game, but with so few games left in this year, this could end his season. If his season is over, Marte will have fallen just short of a 20/30 year in just 138 games. He will likely be a second or third round pick in 2019.

Kevin Kiermaier left Sunday’s game with a shoulder injury. Kiermaier left after being in obvious pain during his last at-bat, but he most likely injured the shoulder on this play in the outfield during the fourth inning:

Kiermaier is being considered day-to-day at this time.

Charlie Morton left Sunday’s start after a velocity dip in the first inning according to manager AJ Hinch. Morton will undergo an MRI on Monday as a precaution. Morton is scheduled to pitch later this week, but this issue may prevent that from happening. Morton is in the last year of his two-year deal with the Astros and in spite of the fact he will be 35-years-old entering 2019, he figures to be a sought after pitcher on the free agent market.

Alex Cobb left Sunday’s start with a blister issue. This is the second time this season that this has popped up for him and it seems likely that it will end his year. If he does not pitch again, Cobb will finish with a 5-15 record with a 4.90 ERA and 102 strikeouts in 152.1 innings. He was much better in the second half however, throwing 59.2 innings with a 2.56 ERA. He has three years left on his deal with Baltimore.

According to manager Aaron Boone, Didi Gregorius has torn cartilage in his wrist on this slide to end the game against the Orioles on Saturday:

It appears the injury may end his season.

Christian Yelich left Sunday’s game after being hit with a pitch. He was able to run the bases after being hit, so hopefully the removal was precautionary. He is considered day-to-day at this time and will be reevaluated on Monday.
