Closer Chaos

Kodai Senga threw a scoreless ninth inning to register the save against the Rangers on Tuesday. 

Senga was given the ball despite Devin Williams coming off of the IL on Tuesday. It seems that the Mets will let Senga have the closing responsibilities as Williams gets back into the groove of things.

Quick Hits
Christian Scott was placed on the 15-Day IL with knee inflammation. This will end his season. Scott finishes with 110 innings and a 3.85 ERA and 134 strikeouts in his first season since Tommy John surgery.

Cade Cavalli will not pitch again this season. There is no reported injury, but the Nationals are wanting to protect their ace after he signed a long term deal. He finishes the season with a 3.02 ERA and 200 strikeouts in 169.2 innings. He will be in the conversation as a top 15-20 pitcher next season.

Landen Roupp will not pitch on Saturday for the Giants. There is no injury involved. He finishes the season with a 4.01 ERA and 143 strikeouts in 155 innings pitched. He should be locked into a rotation spot for the Giants next season.

Michael King is not expected to pitch this weekend if the Padres have clinched a playoff spot. FanGraphs odds have the Padres down as having a 93.6% chance of clinching a wild card spot. King will likely be their #1 starter in the playoffs.

Ronald Acuna Jr. left Tuesday’s game after fouling a pitch off of his shin.

X-rays were negative so it appears he avoided serious injury. Consider him day-to-day at this time, but don’t be surprised if the Braves hold him out the rest of the way to preserve him for the postseason.

Jeremy Pena left Tuesday’s game after being hit in the hand with a pitch. X-rays were negative. Consider him day-to-day at this time.

Various News and Notes
Michael Soroka threw seven innings versus the Rockies on Tuesday, allowing one earned run on two hits and a walk while striking out nine in the victory.

Soroka had a 58% whiff rate on the slurve and a 40% CSW on the fastball in the outing and looked fantastic. He was definitely helped by a bad Rockies team, but this is a good sign that Soroka is fully healthy now. He has one more matchup on Sunday at San Diego who will likely be resting a number of their best hitters once they’ve clinched.

Walker Jenkins went 1-for-4 with a home run in the victory over the Giants on Tuesday.

Jenkins has hit four home runs and stolen one base with a .214/.295/.414 in 79 plate appearances since being called up. Jenkins is the Twins top prospect and while has shown good patience at the plate, he has not hit the ball hard or made enough contact. He could be an every day player for the Twins next season and typically when prospects struggle in their first shot at the Majors, they are under valued at the draft table.

Pitcher for Today: Connor Prielipp at SF

Prielipp is coming off of one of his best starts of the season and is facing a Giants team that is missing almost all of their good bats. 

Other Options: Matthew Liberatore at PIT, Walbert Urena at ATH.

Pitcher for Tomorrow: Clay Holmes vs MIA

Holmes has been great this season, but has struggled recently. There is risk here, but on a short slate, he is worth the risk. 

Other Options: Grayson Rodriguez at SEA, Peter Lambert at ATH.
