Quick Hits
Brandon Crawford was placed on the IL with a hamstring strain. This will likely end his season and could be the ending of a very nice career for the 36-year-old shortstop. The Giants called up Marco Luciano to take Crawford’s place on the roster.

Willson Contreras will be placed on the IL on Friday according to the St. Louis Cardinals. This will end his season.

Brandon Lowe left Thursday’s game with a knee issue.

Consider him day-to-day for now.

Various News and Notes
Jo Adell went 2-for-3 with a home run in the loss to the Rays on Thursday.

Adell was good in AAA again this season, hitting .273/.375/.585 with 24 home runs and nine stolen bases, but continued to struggle with strikeouts. There has never been a question of Adell’s physical gifts, but until he can make more consistent contact, he will be a AAAA player. However, he should play a fair amount down the stretch and he has the power/speed to make a difference down the stretch if he can stay hot.

Top prospect Junior Caminero will make his Major League debut on Friday.

https://x.com/milb_central/status/1705057728547184790?s=20

Caminero hit .324/.384/.591 with 31 home runs and five stolen bases between A and AA ball this season. There is a ton of power in the bat and a decent amount of speed, but there is some risk to his hype aggressive plate approach. That being said, he is a premier prospect and should be rostered in all formats.

Johan Oviedo threw six scoreless innings versus the Yankees, allowing four hits and five walks while striking out five in the victory.

This outing was the epitome of Oviedo’s season. He was wild and hittable at times and then filthy in the same inning. Oviedo has a ton of arm talent, but he is too rw to be a fantasy asset until the control is better.

Streaming Pitchers (Under 50% in CBS)

Pitcher for Today: Sawyer Gipson-Long at OAK

Gipson-Long has been very impressive and gets one of the worst offenses in baseball in a great park.

High Risk Options: Jameson Taillon vs COL, Brandon Pfaadt at NYY, Ken Waldichuk vs DET, Luis Ortiz at CIN.

Pitcher for Tomorrow: John Means vs CLE

Cleveland has been bad against left-handed pitching this season and Means pitched better in his most recent start.

High Risk Options: Cal Quantrill vs BAL, Zack Littell vs TOR, Nick Martinez vs STL.

For those of you that would like to see how these picks play out, I have a doc I put together to track the stats from my recommended pitchers. It does not include the “High Risk Options.”
