Roto Riteup: September 10, 2024
Maybe the best scene in a baseball movie. Rest in peace.

Quick Hits
Willi Castro left Monday’s game with an illness. This doesn’t sound serious, but consider him day-to-day for now.
Various News and Notes
Tylor Megill threw six scoreless innings, allowing one hit and two walks while striking out nine in the no-decision versus the Blue Jays.
WHAT A START FROM TYLOR MEGILL
6 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, 2 BB, 9 K
He showed six pitches and both his fastballs had amazing life. Clutch outing.

Megill was fantastic, throwing his fastball for a 60% CSW and using six different pitches to keep the Blue Jays off balance. Megill’s stuff has never really been in question, but he can struggle with control, but if he can attack the zone and still get swings and misses, he could be valuable down the stretch and into 2025.
Reid Detmers threw six innings and allowed two earned runs on five hits and two walks while striking out eight in the victory over the Twins on Monday.

Detmers looked great in the outing, getting 64% whiff rate on his slider. Detmers did give up a home run in the outing which was a main reason for his demotion earlier in the season, but he was able to stymie the Twins and keep them off base. Detmers has always had talent, but struggles with consistent command. If he can make improvements, there is a lot of upside in his arm.
Joey Cantillo threw seven innings, allowing one earned run on two hits and no walks while striking out ten in the victory over the White Sox on Monday.

Yes, he was pitching against the White Sox, but he was also perfect through six innings before running out of gas in the seventh. His changeup was filthy, getting a 40% CSW. Cantillo was a top pitching prospect that had some sleeper buzz heading into the season but lost time due to injury, but he is healthy now and looking like the guy that many touted back in the offseason.
