Jose Abreu back today
After the Cuban Caballo missed some time, the White Sox are bringing him back to the majors today. It was touch-and-go there for awhile, with some experts believing his mangled limb would require him to taken out back and shot, BUT NO, he has healed on his own.

Fun with catchers
Of all the fantasy players who are eligible to play catcher, only six of them have been above-average fantasy players. Those six?

– Evan Gattis
– Jonathan Lucroy
– Devin Mesoraco
– Yadier Molina
– Derek Norris
– Buster Posey

That’s right, America, Mesoraco has been an above-average fantasy player even after missing a significant chunk of the season. He’s been the second best mixed-league catcher if you’ve had him in your lineup each and every day, and while that isn’t likely to continue, it’s still fun, and that’s the sole point of this exercise.

While not above-average, Yan Gomes and A.J. Pierzynski were close enough that if I were a nicer person they would have been included in the prestigious list above.

Some tidbits on Bartolo Colon
– Bartolo Colon struck out five Nationals on May 17, walking one and allowing one homer in eight innings. He allowed two earned and picked up the win.

– Bartolo Colon struck out nine Pirates on May 28, his most recent start, walking one and allowing zero runners to cross home in over seven innings of work.

– Bartolo Colon has two starts this week, traveling to Philadelphia and their .299 wOBA at home before moving on to San Francisco and their .316 home wOBA.

– I have added Bartolo Colon to my weekly roster in a 12-team league.

Daniel Nava and Stephen Drew reunited with Boston
While he didn’t dominate Triple-A pitcher like one would surely hope/expect, Nava is getting the call back to the big leagues to replace Mike Carp, who goes on the DL. Nava should see starts at first base until Mike Napoli returns when eligible this Sunday.

Drew is going to take over at shortstop, even though he sort of got wrecked in Triple-A. Drew is a legit fantasy shortstop who can be further leveraged thanks to his platoon splits.

I have to pick Bartolo after those tidbits, and Garza could cruise. Longo and Deezy get to face a guy who shouldn’t be in the bigs, and Braun gets to sort of do the same.
