Daniel Norris is crushing AAA hitters
Daniel Norris didn’t fare too well last night against Pawtucket, but his other outings in Triple-A were magnificent. Through his first three starts in Triple-A, Norris is showing why he should be more than a fringe prospect. In those starts, Norris struck out 57% of the batters he’s faced while walking just 7%, which is just crazy sauce, especially considering he’s just 21 years old. Norris has had problems with walks at times, but his age and fastball-curveball combo is unbelievably promising. Norris has been shut down after Tuesday, and I’d expect we see him Toronto sometime next year.

Trevor Cahill, recently as a starter
Like Norris, Cahill struggled last night and ruined my narrative, but the Diamondbacks’ starter has been halfway decently after returning to the rotation in mid-July. Before Tuesday’s blowup, Cahill had thrown 42 IP over seven starts, striking out 31 and walking 12, ending up with an ERA of 3.43. Despite his recent poor start, Cahill has lowered his ERA 65 points in the last month-and-a-half, so maybe his big ‘ole contract won’t be such a burden to Arizona next season.
