Closer Chaos
Emilio Pagán left Tuesday’s game with a hamstring injury.
Pagan was in a ton of pain immediately and had to be carted off the field. Tony Santillan or Graham Ashcraft would likely be the next man up for saves in Cincinnati.
Quick Hits
Steven Matz was placed on the IL with elbow inflammation. There is no timetable for his return, but these injuries often lead to Tommy John surgery.
Josh Smith was placed on the 10-Day IL with a glute strain. There is no timetable for his return. The Rangers recalled Justin Foscue to take his spot on the roster.
Jake Cronenworth was placed on the 7-Day IL with a concussion. There is no timetable for his return. The Padres recalled Sung-Mun Song 송성문 to take his spot on the roster.
Carlos Correa was scratched from Tuesday’s starting lineup with an ankle injury. The reports are that this injury is serious and he is expected to see a specialist and be put on the IL.
Max Kranick signed a one-year deal with a club option for 2027 with the Nationals. Kranick is recovering from Tommy John surgery, but he could join the team at some point near the end of the summer and if things go well, he might be a late inning option next season for a weak Nationals bullpen.
Various News and Notes
Isaac Collins went 3-for-3 with a home run in the victory over the Guardians on Tuesday.
Collins has been on fire recently, hitting .341 with two home runs and a stolen base over his last 13 games. Collins is more of an accumulator, but he has a good approach and hit tool which gives him the ability to rack up stats as long as he is playing full time.
Bryce Elder threw six innings versus the Mariners, allowing two runs on two hits and three walks while striking out nine in the no-decision on Tuesday.
Elder’s surface numbers have been fantastic this season in spite of just an 85 Stuff+ overall and not having a single individual pitch with a Stuff+ of 90 or more. He is mixing and matching well, keeping hitters off balanced, but it is a matter of time before regression hits and he runs into trouble.
Jesus Rodriguez went 2-for-3 with a home run in the loss to the Padres on Tuesday.
Rodriguez made his Major League debut on Monday and is already having an impact for the Giants. He was traded to the Giants last season at the deadline for Camilio Doval and while he wasn’t a highly regarded prospect at the time, he has been fantastic in the minors since joining the Giants system. He has the ability to play at second base and in the outfield on top of his natural position being behind the plate. He is a priority pickup for 2-Catcher formats, but may have viability in deeper 1-Catcher leagues if he is going to play every day with his flexibility.

Pitcher for Today: None
With Christian Scott’s start snowed away, there are a lot of higher risk options, but none I feel confident about.
Other Options: Brandon Sproat vs STL, Patrick Corbin at TB, Noah Schultz at LAA, Joey Cantillo at KC, Jeffrey Springs at PHI, Walbert Urena vs CHW.
Pitcher for Tomorrow: Max Meyer has been great as of late and is facing an Orioles team that has struggled on the road.
Other Options: Zac Gallen vs PIT, Mitch Keller at ARI, Andrew Painter vs ATH, Cade Povich at MIA.
