Roto Riteup: May 30th, 2012

It’s Wild Wednesday here at the Roto Riteup office, so be prepared for the ride of your life.

• Roy Halladay is going to miss at least six weeks following diagnosis of a strained lat muscle. Halladay’s velocity has been down just a smidge this year, and he’s admitted that he’s been having some problems for little while now. Halladay was still pitching well while injured, but some rest will do him good. As someone who has had issues with both his lat and the surrounding muscles, I can tell you that throwing something is not pleasant while you are in the midst of a problem. Throw Halladay on the DL, hope he heals up, and try to make a smart addition or two to your staff to help offset his loss.

• Arbitrary endpoints: In his last 18 games, Jemile Weeks has hit .275/.375 with five steals. His BABIP over that time span is .328, a number I find to be extremely reasonable for a player with Weeks’ skillset. What does all this mean? It means that if you’re looking for a projected line for Weeks for the remainder of the season, I’d tell you something close to what he’s done recently.

• If you lacking a productive catcher, look to stash Salvador Perez. He’ll be back to the bigs very soon.

• If Bryce Harper would have started the season in Washington and hit with the same rates he’s hitting at now, he’d be putting up a .286/22/11 season. As a 19-year-old. If Harper isn’t the most valuable player in keeper leagues right now, I don’t know who is.

For those of you who play daily fantasy games like FanGraphs: The Game, or just like to stream players, here are a couple matchups you may be able to exploit.

A Pitcher for Today: Alex Cobb vs CWS
The White Sox post only a .312 wOBA on the road, and I’m of the believe that Cobb is already a solid number four starter.

A Pitcher for Tomorrow: Jeremy Guthrie vs HOU
Only three games on Thursday, and Guthrie will be the least owned of the group. If you can, take a day off from streaming and have yourself a hot cup of tea, instead.

A Hitter for Today: Todd Helton vs HOU (Lucas Harrell)
Harrell in Colorado is pretty scary.
