Various News and Notes
Jhonny Peralta is almost ready for big league action, and he will begin his rehab assignment today. Expect Peralta to return around Memorial Day and reclaim his hold on the Cardinals’ shortstop position.

Tim Lincecum is officially an Angel of Los Angeles of Anaheim after passing his physical yesterday afternoon. Timmy will need some time in the minors to build up his arm strength, but one would expect he’ll be ready for the club in two or three weeks time.

Adrian Gonzalez has been sitting on the bench for the last few days with a back injury, and owners will have to continue waiting to place him back in their lineups. Gonzalez is not expected to start today, though he’s going to be available to pinch-hit and should be starting again come the weekend.

Evan Gattis is on the path to regaining catcher eligibility, having started his first game of the season as the backstop yesterday against the White Sox. In more liberal formats like Yahoo, he’ll need to start just four more times to be eligible, but ESPN and CBS owners are going to have to wait a little longer.

After a pair of promising starts, Mike Foltynewicz fell flat yesterday against the Pirates, allowing four earned before being pulled after recording just nine outs. Those two earlier outings still show us that Folty has the talent, it’s just about command and consistency.

Another young right-handed starter disappointed yesterday: Jonathan Gray. Gray was smacked around by the Cardinals, even though they were in St. Louis and not Coors. Prior to yesterday, Gray had struck out 36 batters over 28-plus innings and earned a FIP of 2.32. His FIP will still look pretty after not allowing a homer against the Red Birds, but after a .384 BABIP last year and rates in the mid .300’s during his time in the minors, it’s fair to start worrying that Gray may be “hittable” in some shape or form.

Streaming Pitcher Options
If you enjoy streaming pitchers or play DFS, tune into the Roto Riteup for recommendations each and every day.

A pitcher for today: Hector Santiago vs BAL (Mike Wright)
I don’t love picking against the Orioles’ offense, but if you’re going to do so, do it when they’re on the road.

A pitcher for tomorrow: Robbie Ray at STL (Mike Leake)
Ray may not be awesome, but he’s figured out how to get Ks and has the advantage of being outside of Arizona.

No mention of the Guerra start yesterday for the Brewers? I thought it would noteworthy.
11 Ks vs. the mighty Cubs isn’t something to sniff at. As Mike Podhorzer pointed out in the comments section of his piece yesterday, he should have a better K rate given the whiff rates he had generated with his curve and splitter. I guess you could say he was prescient—that K rate did jump, at least for this start. I’m looking forward to seeing what he can do in his next starts, in particular away from hitter friendly Miller Park.
Mike recommended him for deep formats only, but perhaps he will be useful in more shallow formats as well.
