Closer Chaos
Keaton Winn blew the save for the Giants against the Nationals, allowing three runs and three hits in the loss on Monday.
It was surprising to see Winn in the game for the Giants in the ninth to begin with after a 19 pitch outing on Sunday and a 20 pitch outing on Saturday, but the bullpen had been pretty taxed over the weekend. The Giants bullpen is a terrible committee and Winn will likely continue to factor in until someone steps up and takes command of the ninth inning.
Quick Hits
Chris Bassitt was placed on the 15-Day IL with a back issue. There is no timetable for his return. The Orioles called up Trey Gibson to take his spot on the roster.
J.P. Crawford was placed on the 15-Day IL with a hand contusion. This doesn’t sound like it will keep him out long as the reports are that x-rays on the injury were negative. The Mariners called up Ryan Bliss to take Crawford’s spot on the roster.
Nick Allen was placed on the IL with a hamstring strain. Shay Whitcomb was recalled to take his spot on the roster.
Vaughn Grissom was placed on the IL with an oblique strain. Typically these take about 4-to-6 weeks to recover from. The Angels called up Denzer Guzman to take his spot on the roster.
Various News and Notes
Marcelo Mayer went 1-for-2 with a home run in the loss to the Red Sox on Monday.
Mayer has struggled this season, hitting .222/.281/.311 with three home runs and three stolen bases in 186 plate appearances. He makes a good amount of contact, but he struggles to consistently hit the ball hard. He doesn’t play often versus lefties, but he has been good against them when he has, so this could change especially since this bomb came off of left Ian Seymour. We still need to see more from the former top 15 prospect and until we do, he isn’t viable for fantasy outside of the deepest leagues.
Freddy Fermin went 2-for-3 with a home run in the victory over the Reds on Monday.
Prior to the weekend, Fermin hadn’t had a home run all season, but he has homered in three straight games now, but that has only brought his triple slash up to .147/.240/.248. He is hot right now, but he is nothing more than a deep league streamer while he is hot.
Zack Gelof went 2-for-6 with a home run in the loss to the Brewers on Monday.
Gelof has hit well since his callup, hitting .267/.316/.448 with seven home runs and six stolen bases. He is the same guy he has always been, a player with power and speed, but that struggles to make contact which will lead to prolonged streaks. He has value because of the power/speed combination, but the average will likely be an issue for him and he will lose playing time when he struggles.

If there is a humidor in Las Vegas, I think they forgot to add water to it last night. Man, that ball was jumping out of the park there.
Crazy, crazy game. Not only was the ball jumping out of the park, it was bouncing into the air like a Superball when hit into the area in front of the plate like there was concrete or asphalt underneath the field. Really weird-obviously not a Major League facility.
AL only 10 team league (I’m in 1st). I have I Seymour, Imai and T Rogers on my bench. Should I activate any of them over S. Miles, Pete Lambert or Drew Anderson?
