Sleeper and the Bust DK Contest

On most Tuesday’s and Friday’s and some other days, Paul Sporer and I will be doing a $5 draftkings game for anyone that is interested.

COVID Issues

Mike Moustakas was placed on the IL without a designation. This usually means a COVID issue, but without any information, it is unknown whether he tested positive or is just experiencing symptoms. TJ Friedl was recalled to take Moustakas’ spot on the roster.

Quick Hits

Bailey Ober was placed on the IL with a groin strain. This is unfortunate because he has already struggled with this injury before this season. There is no timetable for his return, but he previously missed about a month with the issue last time. Aaron Sanchez was signed as the corresponding move. Sanchez struggled in Washington before being released, but he could get an opportunity in Minnesota as they are super thin right now with healthy starters.

David Peralta left Monday’s game with back spasms. Consider him day-to-day for now.

Various News and Notes

Hunter Greene threw seven scoreless innings in the victory versus the Diamondbacks, allowing just one hit and striking out eight.

Greene was credited with a complete game as the game ended up being called due to rain, but it seems unlikely that he would have gone the distance at 87 pitches. Either way, he was absolutely dominant in the outing, posting an unreal 48 whiff percentage on his fastball and a 33% on his slider. Greene has some of the best stuff in baseball, but his command and control can be inconsistent from start to start and sometimes from pitch to pitch. That being said, the upside is tantalizing and he should be rostered in all formats.

Michael Wacha threw a complete game shutout of the Angels, allowing just three hits and a walk while striking out six in the victory.

As impressive as Wacha’s line is, he wasn’t overpowering at all. He kept the Angels off balanced with great pitch sequencing and command. Watching the start, I never had a “wow” moment during the game, but he didn’t make many mistakes either. Wacha has regression coming, but so far he has done more than enough to warrant being rostered in all formats.

Cal Raleigh went 2-for-4 with a home run in the Mariners victory over the Astros.

Raleigh has struggled in his time in the Majors this year, hitting just .168 this season, but he has been better as of late with two home runs in his last four games and hits in three of those four games. The bottom of the catcher pool is pretty weak and Raleigh has shown good power and approach in the minors, so it is worth riding the hot streak in deeper two catcher leagues.

Streaming Pitchers (Under 50% in CBS)

Pitcher for Today: Keegan Thompson at BAL

Thompson has looked pretty good and has a nice matchup in Baltimore.

High Risk Options: Edward Cabrera vs WAS, Graham Ashcraft vs ARI, Connor Pilkington vs TEX, Taylor Hearn at CLE, Jason Alexander vs PHI.

Pitcher for Tomorrow: Alex Faedo at PIT

This may be one of the worst matchups of two awful teams, but I prefer Faedo as a better option than Mitch Keller even if Detroit is playing worse right now.

High Risk Options: Mitch Keller vs DET, Dane Dunning at CLE, Johnny Cueto vs LAD.

For those of you that would like to see how these picks play out, I have a doc I put together to track the stats from the recommended pitchers. It does not include the “High Risk Options.”

Greene only allowed 2 batted balls over 88.8 mph and none over 93.3 mph. I read somewhere that it is only the 7th game of the Statcast era with no batted balls over 95 mph (with the obvious caveat that it was a 7 inning game).
