Roto Riteup: June 27, 2012

I took a break from watching Harry Potter to pen today’s Roto Riteup, so you should be all kinds of grateful.

• The Rangers have now placed their third starting pitcher on the DL, as Colby Lewis joins counterparts Neftali Feliz and Derek Holland in the infirmary. Lewis has quietly bounced back from a homer plagued 2011, throwing 100 innings thus far with a 3.51 ERA and 1.08 WHIP. Lewis is hitting the DL with tendinitis in his right forearm. As of the time I’m writing this, there isn’t much news as to how long Lewis will miss, and whether or not this injury is considered serious or not. Odds are it’s not overly serious and the Rangers would just like to have an extra roster spot while Lewis rests, but I’m neither a doctor nor a reporter, so why the hell would you listen to me?

• With Lewis moving to the DL, Scott Feldman is moving back to the starting rotation in Texas. Feldman’s secondary numbers look solid from his eight previous starts this year, but he had a hard time stranding anyone, thus the 6.43 ERA as a starter. The Rangers will still have one more opening in their rotation, and it looks as though top-prospect Martin Perez could be filling the slot. Justin Grimm is also in the mix and on the major league roster — as is Perez, as of yesterday — so it’s really a crapshoot right now. If I had to guess, I’d say Grimm gets another shot at it, with Perez cleaning up his mess and taking his spot if he fails. Perez may be popping up in a bunch of leagues, but I wouldn’t jump on him yet. He’s just not major league ready at this point, and likely won’t be until the middle of next year.

• Blue Jays super-prospect Travis D’Arnaud is going to miss the next six-to-eight weeks of game action after tearing his PCL while playing in the PCL. The good news is that the 23-year-old will not need surgery, instead just R&R&R (the third R is for “rehab”). TD’A had already hit 16 homers in Triple-A before going down, and his presence may have spelled the end of J.P. Arencibia in Toronto by the trading deadline had his injury not occurred. D’Arnaud has elite power at a scarce position, but at this point, I doubt we see him in Toronto until next season, barring a September callup when the rosters expand.

J.D. Martinez may be struggling overall, but he sure know how to hit lefties.
