Various News and Notes
Tyler Glasnow will be shut down from throwing for three weeks after an MRI revealed right flexor inflammation.

Glasnow has been sidelined since May 10th due to a right forearm strain. The Rays brass as well as Glasnow himself thought that his return would come sometime after the All-Star break; unfortunately, it’s looking more like August – possibly later – barring any additional setbacks. This is brutal for fantasy owners – like myself – who’ve been stashing the budding young starter with the hopes of him returning to the form that resulted in a 1.86 ERA and 0.91 WHIP (55/9 K:BB in 48 IP) at the beginning of the season. I made bold, and some not so bold, predictions for every team on Opening Day – here’s what I wrote for the Rays (Mariners included as well).

While it doesn’t look crazy now, Glasnow could end up with less value than Archer when it’s all said and done. If you’re in a shallow league (12 team mixed or less) with a restricted amount of “IL” slots, then I think Glasnow is droppable. I honestly can make the argument that he’s worthy of dropping in just about any league, depending on the format etc. I’m “hoping” for a mid-August return, with the possibility that he’s not coming back this season. If you have room to keep someone that ling on your roster, then by all means. Either way, this is another road block in what looked to be a breakout season from a potential value pick in drafts.

Tim Anderson exited yesterday’s game against the Red Sox after suffering a right ankle injury.

Anderson went 2-for-3 with a double – his 14th of the season – before leaving. Even with X-Rays being negative, the way he was being helped off the diamond was an awful sign. If you’re an Anderson owner (ahem, like myself), then I’d make plans for a trip to the injured list. He’s currently ranked fifth at shortstop on the ESPN Player Rater, as he’s notched a hit in 10 of-his-last 11 games and is on pace for a 20/30 season with close to a .300 BA. Chris Taylor is somehow only owned in 37% in ESPN and Yahoo leagues, and should be an immediate add if Anderson does indeed go on the shelf. Lourdes Gurriel Jr (47%), Scott Kingery (49%), Luis Rengifo (1%), J.P. Crawford (1%) and Eric Sogard (12%) are also possible short term, and in some cases, long term solutions. All are less than 50% owned in ESPN leagues.

Jordan Hicks will miss the rest of the season with a torn ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow.

Well, I guess we were slightly misinformed on the severity of the injury the other day.

This is extremely unfortunate. Hicks has ridiculous stuff and was on pace to secure about 30 saves with an obscene GB% and improved skills. We more than likely won’t see him until late next season at best. Carlos Martinez seems to be the leading candidate for saves, but John Gant and even Andrew Miller could mix in. Be sure to follow the Bullpen Report to stay on top of this situation.

Quick Hits:
Blake Snell allowed 7 ER on 11 H in 3.1 IP with 4 K and 1 BB against the Twins. It’s the third time he’s allowed six earned runs and fourth time he’s failed to make it to the fifth inning in his last five starts (only once the 11 starts prior). He’s a buy-low if you can get him. You had a feeling that things weren’t going to go the Rays way when this happened:

Scott Kingery launched his 10th home run of the season – seventh in June – out of the lead-off spot (second day in a row)against the Mets. He’s playing and has improved his power metrics; he needs to be owned everywhere.

Max Scherzer continues to pitch like an insane person as he allowed 1 ER on 5 H over 8 IP with 10 K and 0 BB against the Marlins.

I don’t have a comment about Scherzer. He’s too good for me to comment on right now.

Max Kepler was forced to leave yesterday’s game with a right elbow contusion after being hit by a fastball. X-Rays were negative, but he will undergo an MRI today.

Joey Gallo went 1-for-4 with an RBI double and a walk in his return to the Rangers lineup.

In his first “traditional” start of the season, Jesse Chavez held the Tigers to 0 ER (1 unearned run) with 7 K and 0 BB. He’s not allowed an earned run in 20 of-his-last 22 appearances overall (37 IP)!

Amed Rosario swatted his ninth home run and secured his 10th stolen base of the season against the Phillies. He has a hit in eight-of-nine and has a .288 BA this month.

Rhys Hoskins hit his third home run in his last four games – 18th overall.

Jake Arrieta allowed five earned runs for the third time in his last five. He also struck out less than five for the fourth time during that stretch.

Giancarlo Stanton continued to have bad luck, as he was forced to leave Tuesday’s game against the Blue Jays due to a right knee contusion (and a spike to the hand).

Aaron Judge homered for the first time since returning – his sixth of the season.

Manny Machado went 2-for-4 with a home run (17th), two RBI, and a walk in his return to Camden Yards.

He’s turned things on the last two months, I just wish he was running.

Hunter Dozier hit a grand slam against the Indians on Tuesday – his second home run in three days and 13th overall.

Oscar Mercado notched two more hits and now has a hit in 11-of-12 games, with seven being of the multi-hit variety. He’s hitting .311/.347/.489 this month with four steals and three home runs.

Austin Riley went 0-for-3 with two strikeouts against the Cubs and is hitting .220/.283/.462 in the month of June (two or more strikeouts in seven-of-the-last-ten games).

Dan Vogelbach hit his 19th home run of the season, and J.P. Crawford posted his third multi-hit game in his last four. He’s now hitting .341/.423/.523 since returning.

The number one overall pick in the 2019 draft – Adley Rutschman – hit some BP and was introduced to the fans at Camden Yards on Tuesday.

Ross Stripling (1 ER, 4/1 K:BB) and Julio Urias (0 ER, 1/1 K:BB) both went three innings in the Dodgers win against the Diamondbacks on Tuesday.

Alex Dickerson tallied his third multi-hit game and extra-base hit in five contests as a Giant.

Brendan Rodgers was placed on the 10-day injured list due to a right shoulder impingement.

According to Mark Bowman, Mike Soroka could miss his next scheduled start due to lingering soreness in his forearm.

Bob Nightengale reported that Alex Wood will visit a doctor after experiencing renewed soreness in his back.

Ian Desmond hit his fifth home run of the month (11th of the season) and is hitting .353/.375/.662 in June overall.

Ryan McMahon only has two hits in his last six games, with 13 K and 2 BB during that time.

Tommy LaStella hit his 16th home run of the season – fourth in June – against the Reds on Tuesday. He’s showing no signs of slowing down.

Fernando Tatis Jr. hit his ninth home run of the season and has been raking since coming back.

Manuel Margot has a hit in six of his last eight and hit a home run with three RBI and two runs scored yesterday.

Andrelton Simmons went 1-for-3 with a walk in his return to his rehab assignment.

Scooter Gennett has gone 2-for-8 with a double in his two games with Triple-A Louisville. He’s expected to be activated as soon as Friday.

Madison Bumgarner posted double-digit strikeouts for the first time since 2017.

Streaming Pitchers (Less than 50% owned):
Pitcher for Today: Framber Valdez vs PIT
The PIT offense is tied with the Royals for 28th in wRC+ against LHP (74) and Valdez had two really good home starts prior to getting stomped on by the Yankees his last outing.

High-Risk Option: Griffin Canning vs CIN

Pitcher for Tomorrow: None

With fewer options than normal, there just isn’t anyone I’d recommend.

High-Risk Option: Martin Perez vs TAM
The Rays are 25th in OPS over the last seven days and Perez has fared better at home.

What’s going on with Eugenio Suarez? He’s been abysmal the last month plus.
