Sleeper and the Bust DK Contest
On most Tuesday’s and Friday’s and some other days, Paul Sporer and I will be doing a $5 draftkings game for anyone that is interested.
COVID Issues
Tanner Houck will not be with the Red Sox as they travel to Toronto early next week. Houck is not vaccinated and therefore cannot enter Canada, so the Red Sox will have to turn to options in the ninth. John Schreiber, Hansel Robles and Matt Strahm are the likely candidates.
Quick Hits
Zach Thompson was placed on the IL with forearm irritation. Any time you hear forearm, it is concerning, but the Pirates believe that he will be able to return after a minimum stay, so hopefully this won’t lead to further issues.
Jeff McNeil left Monday’s game with a hamstring issue. The Mets are characterizing it as tightness and believe he will be day-to-day at this time, but he is expected to undergo an MRI on Tuesday.
Aaron Ashby was placed on the IL with forearm inflammation. This was a bummer as Ashby had been on track to make his next start. The move is retroactive to June 17th, but I wouldn’t expect him to return once eligible.
Tyler O’Neill was placed on the IL with a hamstring strain. This is disappointing as the Cardinals had said his removal on Sunday was precautionary, but clearly that is not the case. Hopefully he won’t miss too much time, but in his absence, Juan Yepez should get more time.
J.D. Davis was injured in the game on Monday after being hit on the hand with a pitch. Davis was able to play through it, but received x-rays following the game that were negative. Consider him day-to-day for now.
Trayce Thompson was traded from the Tigers to the Dodgers for cash. Thompson will be a short side platoon option for LA while Mookie Betts is out and doesn’t have much fantasy value outside of being Klay Thompson’s brother.
Yoan Moncada was placed on the IL with a hamstring strain. The move is retroactive to June 18th.
Manuel Margot left Monday’s game after a hard collision with the outfield wall while trying to make a leaping catch.

Margot had to be carted off the field and word is he will miss an extended period of time.
Various News and Notes
Josh Lowe was recalled on Monday by the Tampa Bay Rays. Lowe struggled in his first go around with the Rays after making the team out of Spring Training, striking out 38% of the time, but went down to the minors and after an early struggle there, he cut the strikeout rate and showed the power and speed we know is in the profile. However, the swing and miss is still in the profile as he struggles up in the zone with high velocity and that was on display as he struck out twice in his first game back. That is somewhat acceptable as Gerrit Cole was dealing, but until he fixes the swing and miss, he will continue to have huge ups and downs.
David Peterson threw 5.1 scoreless innings versus the Marlins, allowing just six hits and two walks while striking out seven.

Peterson was fantastic, especially with the slider that got a 53 whiff percentage. I don’t necessarily think that Peterson is taking a big step considering the Marlins are the worst team in the league versus left handed pitching, but this was nice to see.
C.J. Abrams was recalled from AAA on Monday. With Manny Machado injured, the Padres needed some extra depth on the roster and Abrams has the type of upside to help cover the loss. Abrams struggled mightily in his first taste of the Majors, but dominated AAA, hitting .314/.364/.507 with seven home runs and stealing 10 bases in 65 plate appearances. There is risk for any 21-year-old playing in the Majors, but Abrams has huge upside and opportunity until Machado is better.

Pitcher for Today: Reid Detmers vs KC
Good matchup and Detmers has been better as of late.
High Risk Options: James Kaprielian vs SEA, Rich HIll vs DET, Erick Fedde at BAL, Jon Heasley at LAA
Pitcher for Tomorrow: Chad Kuhl at MIA
Kuhl has quietly been pretty good this year, but on the road the strikeouts have been great. He gets a nice matchup in Miami.
High Risk Options: Ross Stripling at CHW, Tyler Wells vs WAS, Patrick Corbin at BAL, Daniel Lynch at LAA.

Red Sox are home v Detroit and then at Cleveland, no?… Houck can go there… But he still might get a day off today with all the work he’s had recently.
Yeah, not in Toronto until next week.
