Shane Greene gets the hook
Remember when Shane Greene was all the rage and those of us who drafted him were feeling great? Ah, the good old days. Greene was optioned to Triple-A yesterday on the heels of another disastrous performance on Wednesday.
Greene’s velocity has been down a notch this year, but that hasn’t been his issue. Greene’s recent struggles come from grooving pitches, and that is something you just can’t do with a 91 MPH sinker. Hopefully there’s something mechanical or just a mental block here that can be repaired in Triple-A, because the Tigers aren’t loaded with replacements, even with Justin Verlander on the horizon.
Various news and notes
– Felix Hernandez did not make it out of the first inning against the Astros last night. Felix struggled last week against the Yankees, too, but he’s put together some great outings against Tampa Bay and Toronto between them. Nothing to be worried about folks; even royalty can have an off day.
– Hunter Pence wasn’t able to get his way and was placed on the DL yesterday with a wrist injury. Pence could be out for at least the next week, maybe even two, and we all know how wrist issues can linger and sap power.
– Mookie Betts did this yesterday and had to be removed from the game with a back injury. Ouch.
Who’s an Ace?
Earlier this week there was a twitter bruhaha surrounding which MLB pitchers should be considered Aces, so I jumped in the fray the only way I know how: surveying the audience. 221 responses later, we have the results below. Do with them what you will.
Streaming Pitcher Options
If you enjoy streaming pitchers, tune into the Roto Riteup for recommendations each and every day.
A pitcher for today: Kyle Hendricks vs CIN (Mike Leake)
Hendricks has quietly shown improvement from last season’s breakout and faces a Reds offense that’s in the bottom-half away from home.
A pitcher for tomorrow: Mike Foltynewicz at NYM (Dillon Gee)
If Folty can navigate Lucas Duda, he could be in line for an impressive start.
