Trade!!!

The Brewers acquired Rowdy Tellez from the Blue Jays for Trevor Richards and Bowden Francis. Tellez should get some run in Milwaukee following this deal considering Keston Hiura has gone back to struggling after a hot start in his most recent return from the minors. Neither Richards nor Francis profiles as a fantasy difference maker right now.

Quick Hits

Gregory Polanco was placed on the IL with hip inflammation. There is no timetable for his return.

Eric Sogard was placed on the IL with a thumb injury. Sergio Alcantara was recalled to replace him on the roster.

Yasmani Grandal was placed on the IL with a torn tendon in his knee. This is very disappointing news as Grandal had been getting hot again. Grandal is expected to miss at least 4-6 weeks and is droppable in most formats.

Anthony Rendon was placed on the IL with a hamstring strain. This is frustrating as the team had suggested he would be fine. The hope is he should be ok to return after the All Star Break.

Various News and Notes

Top prospect Vidal Brujan is expected to be called up on Wednesday for the Rays doubleheader. The expectation is that he will remain in the Majors following the doubleheader as well. Brujan has been pretty good in AAA this season, hitting .259/.344/.471 with nine home runs and 15 stolen bases in  49 games. His ability to steal bags as well as hit for average while not being a zero in the power department makes him a huge upside play that should be rostered in all formats.

Chad Kuhl threw six innings in the victory over the Braves, allowing one run on four hits and no walks while striking out seven. Kuhl was very good in this one, throwing his slider almost 50% of the time while getting a 40% CSW on it and not leaving his fastball in bad spots within the zone.

Kuhl has now had five good starts in a row and could be an interesting trade candidate at the deadline and a streaming option in deeper formats while he can keep it up.

Tony Gonsolin threw 5.1 scoreless innings in the no-decision against the Marlins, allowing just two hits and a walk while striking out three. Gonsolin kept the Marlins off balance, relying on a very good slider and splitter and being effective with the fastball. He is getting stretched out now and should be rostered in all formats as he has a rotation spot locked down now.

Streaming Pitchers (Under 50% in CBS)

Pitcher for Today: Alec Mills vs PHI

Mills has been really good recently, posting a 2.45 ERA over his last three starts with 14 strikeouts in 14.2 innings.

High Risk Options: Antonio Senzatela at ARI, Brady Singer vs CIN.

Pitcher for Tomorrow:  None

Only a few options, but none of them are very good.

High Risk Options: Adrian Houser vs CIN, J.A. Happ vs DET.

For those of you that would like to see how these picks play out, I have a doc I put together to track the stats from the recommended pitchers. It does not include the “High Risk Options.”

“Kuhl has now had five good starts in a row …” Uh, not exactly, unless you think this is a good outing: 3.3 IP, 5 ER, 5H, 4 BB, 2 Ks. We could stretch the truth a bit and say 4 good starts … but more accurate to say 3 of his last 4. But you do good work, very valuable assessments 9 times out of 10!
