Closer Chaos

Tanner Scott was placed on the IL with elbow inflammation. The good news is that Scott stated that there was no structural damage and he is hoping to pitch again this season. For now, Kirby Yates seems like the most likely option to be the Dodger closer until Scott can return.

Trades and Rumors

Stuart Fairchild was traded to the Rays for cash. He will be a short side platoon bat and doesn’t have much value outside of AL Only leagues.

According to Jesse Rogers, Edward Cabrera is being asked about by teams. Cabrera is having a great season, throwing 88 innings with a 3.48 ERA and 92 strikeouts. His walk rate and home run rate are both the best of his career and he has been able to stay healthy this season. With three years of control, the Marlins could get a lot in return from the former top 100 prospect.

Quick Hits

Brandon Lowe was placed on the IL with a foot issue. There is no timetable for his return.

Max Muncy (ATH) was placed on the IL with a fractured hand. There is no timetable for his return but he is a safe drop in most formats.

Denzel Clarke was placed on the IL with an adductor strain. He is expected to miss at least two weeks but may miss upwards of a month. Colby Thomas was recalled to take his spot on the roster.

Lance McCullers Jr. was placed on the IL with a blister. The move is retroactive to 7/20 which means he will be eligible to return in early August.

Various News and Notes

Ben Rice went 1-for-4 with a home run in the victory over the Blue Jays on Tuesday.

Rice hadn’t hit a home run since June 24, but he has been hitting well in the month of July. With Giancarlo Stanton back, Rice isn’t playing every day, but he does have catcher eligibility now and you can’t expect that some of the older members of the Yankees will stay healthy the rest of the way.

Landen Roupp threw five scoreless innings versus the Braves, allowing four hits and one walk while striking out six in the victory on Tuesday.

Roupp was fantastic, getting a 38% CSW on his sinker and inducing a good amount of weak contact. He can struggle with control, but when he is finding the zone, his stuff is really good.

Francisco Alvarez went 1-for-4 with a home run in the victory over the Angels on Tuesday.

Alvarez has a ton of power in the bat, but has struggled with consistent contact in the Majors and the minors. If he can make even league average contact, the power potential is massive.

Streaming Pitchers (Under 50% in CBS)

Pitcher for Today: JP Sears at TEX

Sears has been up and down this year, but this is a good matchup in a good park.

Other Options: Slade Cecconi vs BAL, Brandon Walter at ARI, Mike Soroka vs CIN, Jonathan Cannon at TB.

Pitcher for Tomorrow: Charlie Morton at CLE

Morton has pitched well for the Orioles and has a nice matchup against a bad Cleveland offense. (There is risk that this is scratched if he is traded.)

Other Options: Eric Lauer 라우어 at DET, Luis Severino at HOU, Logan T Allen vs BAL, Logan Evans at LAA.

For those of you that would like to see how these picks play out, I have a doc I put together to track the stats from my recommended pitchers. It does not include the “Other Options.”
