Quick Hits

Ryan Pepiot was placed on the IL with a knee issue. There is no timetable for his return.

Max Fried was placed on the IL with an elbow injury. There is no timetable for his return.

Reese Olson was placed on the IL with shoulder soreness. There is no timetable for his return.

Jacob Wilson윌슨 was placed on the IL with a hamstring strain. Wilson had just been called up but he left the game after the injury. There is no timetable for his return.

Ozzie Albies will be placed on the IL with a fractured wrist. He is expected to miss two months. The Braves are expected to call up Nacho Alvarez Jr to take his spot on the roster.

Julio Rodriguez left Sunday’s game with an ankle injury in the game versus the Astros.

X-rays were negative. Consider him day-to-day for now.

Various News and Notes
Drew Thorpe six scoreless innings versus the Royals, allowing three hits and two walks while striking out five in the no-decision on Sunday.

Thorpe was fantastic once again, getting a 43% whiff rate on his changeup and a 64% whiff rate on the slider. It is unfortunate that he pitches for such a bad organization, but can be a good source of ratio help.

Andrew Heaney threw five scoreless innings versus the Orioles on Sunday, allowing three walks and two hits while striking out four in the outing in the victory.

Heaney had his moments in this one, but he also struggled with control and command at times. He has been great since the beginning of June, but he is still inconsistent with pitches inning to inning. I have been a big fan of Heaney in the past, but I don’t think this is a step forward quite yet.

Hayden Birdsong threw six innings in the victory over the Rockies, allowing two runs on two hits and two walks while striking out 12 on Sunday.

Birdsong was dominant with the curveball and slider, getting a 58% CSW on the curve and a 52% of the slider. Stuff is not the issue for Birdsong, but he does struggle with command and control. The Giants are on the cusp of getting Robbie Ray and Alex Cobb back, but Birdsong could cement himself in the rotation if he can continue to throw like this.
