Roto Riteup: July 18, 2022

Big stuff coming this weekend!

On the Agenda:

  1. Quick Hits
  2. Various News and Notes
  3. Oddly Specific Home Run Derby Predictions

Quick Hits

Chris Sale left Sunday’s game after being hit with a come backer in the hand.

Sale said following the game that he is expected to miss 4-6 with a broken finger. Sale is droppable in most redraft formats considering this timetable.

Harold Ramirez left Sunday’s game after being hit in the hand with a pitch. Ramirez broke his thumb on his right hand and is expected to miss at least a month.

Daniel Lynch was placed on the IL with a blister. There is no timetable for his return.

Trevor Story was placed on the IL with a hand contusion. Story had hurt his hand last week so the move is retroactive to July 14th. Hopefully he will return shortly after the break.

Various News and Notes

Spencer Torkelson was optioned to the minor leagues on Sunday. Torkelson struggled mightily in his first go around in the Majors, hitting .197/.282/.295 with five home runs and struck out at a 25.5% clip. Torkelson actually had decent contact numbers and walked at almost a 10% clip so it wasn’t all bad, but had just a 29.5% hard contact percentage and he put the ball on the ground 44% of the time while only sporting a 38% flyball percentage. He will get some time in AAA to work on things, but while he is droppable in all redraft formats, there shouldn’t be too much concern about his long term upside.

Nick Pratto went 2-for-3 with a home run in the loss to the Blue Jays.

Pratto came up when a third of the Royals team were unable to travel Toronto because of their vaccination status. He has hit well, slashing .286/.333/.571 with the one home run in just 15 plate appearances. Pratto was hitting .240/.374/.484 with 17 home runs and eight stolen bases, but was striking out 30% of the time in AAA. He was considered their top prospect still in the minors at the beginning of the season, but was passed over by Vinnie Pasquantino. Pratto could stay up and be an impact bat at some point, but he was optioned after the game and will return to AAA.

Oddly Specific Home Run Derby Predictions

Round 1:

Kyle Schwarber defeats Albert Pujols when Pujols strikes out twice during his three minutes.

Jose Ramirez defeats Juan Soto when Soto turns down a time extension worth 400 million seconds.

Corey Seager defeats Julio Rodriguez when Rodriguez attempts to steal bases in between home runs wasting precious time.

Ronald Acuna defeats Pete Alonso as the crowd sings Hakuna Matata.

Round 2:

Kyle Schwarber defeats Jose Ramirez when Ramirez sees too many pitches in order to take a walk.

Corey Seager defeats Ronald Acuna when 46% of Acuna’s hits end up being ground balls.

Championship Round:

Corey Seager defeats Kyle Schwarber because I told people to fade Seager coming into the season and I clearly need to continue to take that L.

Don’t forget that, during the award ceremony, Corey Seager looks directly into the camera and calls you out. He knows.
