Things I Do Not Care About
Mike Matheny was fired by the St. Louis Cardinals. He was an awful game manager. It was overdue.
If you’re not a Cardinals fan, this offseason may be really scary. Some team is going to look at that winning percentage and give him a deal. I hope to god it’s not the Giants. Please don’t retire Bochy!

A bunch of players were optioned to give teams more flexibility for the weekend. This is common tools with the All-Star Break approaching and to give young pitchers work to keep them on schedule.
Various News and Notes
Arodys Vizcaino was placed on the 10-Day DL with shoulder inflammation. According to manager Brian Snitker, this is the same issue that had landed him on the DL last month. With the All-Star Break arriving, this may be more cautionary than anything else.
Eduardo Rodriguez left his start on Saturday with an ankle injury. X-rays after the game came back negative. Rodriguez has been great this year, winning 11 games and posting a 3.44 ERA with an almost 25% strikeout rate. Hopefully he won’t need to miss a start considering the break.
Jon Gray was recalled from AAA by the Rockies. He started the game Saturday versus the Mariners and threw 7.1 innings allowing only one run and one walk, while striking out 6. Gray was a surprise demotion by the Rockies, but was only down for two starts before returning. He looks to be a interesting buy low with great FIP and xFIP numbers in spite of a horrific ERA.
Scott Schebler exited the game on Saturday after this play:

After the game Schebler stated he was sore, but that when was given a “good diagnosis.” Hopefully he will be good to go after the All-Star Break.
Streaming Pitchers Options
A pitcher for today: None
Hail Mary Option: Eric Lauer vs CHC
Lauer has been very good of late, but this could be a tough matchup unless the Cubs sit some of their big bats.
A pitcher for tomorrow: Gadiel Baez vs Javy Baez
Nothing brings out some competition like pitching against your brother on national TV.
I’ll be back tomorrow for my annual Home Run Derby predictions!
