Various news and notes
Clay Buchholz had to be lifted from his start last night after experiencing tightness in his elbow in the fourth inning. Buchholz’s velo dipped a couple MPH in the fourth inning before he was pulled, and he’ll have an MRI shortly to determine the extent of any damage. Unfortunately, owners need to be prepared for him to undergo Tommy John surgery.
Brandon Beachy will make his first MLB start in almost two years today, taking the mound for the Dodgers against the Brewers. Beachy wasn’t impressive in his rehab outings, but the Dodgers are going to give him a chance in the bigs nonetheless. If he’s showing good fastball command today while sitting 89-90, snatch him up in deeper leagues.
Put your hands together and welcome Rob Refsnyder to the big leagues. The Yankees have promoted their heralded prospect to lock down the second base job after Stephen Drew never stopped struggling. Refsnyder projects as more of an asset in OBP leagues than those standard ones, but he could add a handful of homers and steals over the rest of the season.
Danny Duffy had a weird outing last night, holding the lefty-mashing Blue Jays scoreless over six innings while failing to strike out a batter and giving up four free passes. Jobu is merciful.
Jarrod Dyson reached base last night and did not steal a base, making his day a failure in my mind. Dyson is now a fantasy asset of sorts with Alex Gordon sidelined for the next couple months.
Matt Carpenter’s dong-dong last night was his first blast since the end of May. It’s not a big deal, though, because you were a fool if you drafted Carpenter for his power.
Jake Odorizzi has returned from the DL and will start for the Rays today against Houston. Odorizzi’s changeup could create many victims against the Astros today, so activate him immediately if you’re able.
Streaming Pitcher Options
If you enjoy streaming pitchers, tune into the Roto Riteup for recommendations each and every day.
A pitcher for today: Mark Buehrle at KC (Chris Young)
The Royals don’t have much to throw at lefties, and even Chris Young’s magic won’t stop the Blue Jays from giving him some run support.
A pitcher for tomorrow: Andrew Heaney at SEA (Taijuan Walker)
Heaney has impressed so far this year, and the lefty-heavy Mariners will have a hard time putting up much of a fight.
