Closer Chaos
Phil Maton pitched a scoreless inning versus the Yankees to register the save for the Rangers on Tuesday.
With Robert Garcia hurt, Maton seems like the easy call as the next man up. He will have value in most formats until Garcia returns.
Quick Hits
Nick Lodolo was placed on the IL with a blister on his left hand. There is no timetable for his return, but it is not expected to be a lengthy absence.
Michael Soroka was placed on the IL with a shoulder strain. Soroka left Monday’s game with the injury and it sounds like he could miss the majority if not the entire rest of the season. He is droppable in most formats.
Tyler O’Neill left Tuesday’s game with a wrist issue. He reportedly injured it in the fifth inning and attempted to stay in the game before exiting in the sixth. X-rays were negative. Consider him day-to-day for now.
Orlando Arcia left Tuesday’s game with a hand injury.
There was no information about his condition after the game. Consider him day-to-day at this time.
Thairo Estrada left Tuesday’s game with a leg injury.
There was no information on his condition as well after the game. Consider him day-day for now.
Joey Lopefido left Tuesday’s game after being hit with a pitch.
X-rays were negative and he was diagnosed with a knee contusion. Consider him day-to-day for now.
Various News and Notes
Luke Keaschall went 2-for-4 with a home run in the victory over the Tigers on Tuesday.
Keaschall initially made his debut in April before getting hurt after about a week in the Majors, but he has made an impact in his return from the IL. There isn’t a ton of power in the bat, but he does have a really good hit tool and a fair amount of speed. He should play regularly the rest of the way for the Twins and is a good pick up in most formats.
Jakob Marsee 2-for-2 with a home run in the loss to the Astros on Tuesday.
Marsee also drew a walk in the outing. There isn’t a ton of power in the bat, but there is a lot of speed. He stole 98 bases between AA and AAA over the last two seasons. He has been hitting in the back half of the lineup, but he has always had a great walk rate so he could find himself being the lead off guy at some point.
JJ Bleday went 4-for-6 and a home run in the victory over the Nationals on Tuesday.
This was his second straight four hit game with a home run since being recalled on August 1. However, he doesn’t seem to be playing every day yet, but if he continues to rake, he will force the Athletics to give him more at bats.
