Trades!!!

Tarik Skubal was traded to the Dodgers for Zyhir Hope, River Ryan, and Brady Smith. Well, the rich get richer. Skubal will join the reigning MLB champs and bolster an already strong lineup. His fantasy value doesn’t change outside of added win potential on a better team. It will be interesting to see what the Dodgers do in the rotation once Blake Snell, Tyler Glasnow and Shohei Ohtani are back on the mound in the Majors. Both Hope and Ryan are top 60 prospects and the latter should be in the Tigers rotation sooner rather than later. 

Freddy Peralta was traded to the Tampa Bay Rays for Aiden Smith, Gary Gill Hill and Emilien Pitre on Sunday. The Mets did not get a great return for Peralta due to his struggles this season and since he will be a free agent at the end of the season The Rays have been great with pitching adjustments so this is about as good of a landing spot as he can ask for.

The Nationals traded Luis Garcia Jr. to the Yankees for Spencer Nusbaum, Ben Gramble, Yovanny Cruz, Jack Cebert, and Jake Bird. Garcia is having a fantastic season and is expected to be the strong side first baseman moving forward. The Nationals were able to bolster their bullpen while also adding a starting pitching prospect in Cerbert who has struggled with home runs in the minors, but has had nice strikeout rates in high A and AA. 

Kevin Gausman was traded to the Cubs on Sunday for Brett Bateman and Ty Southisene. Gausman has been up and down with the Blue Jays this season, but he brings a veteran presence to Chicago and helps bolster a team that has injury risk and volatility. Both prospects the Blue Jays received are light hitting, speedy players that do not factor in for fantasy at this time. It would not be surprising if the Cubs add another starter for the end of the day on Monday. 

Tyler Mahle was traded to the Braves for Anthony Molina. Mahle has not been very good for the Giants, but he has been able to eat innings which the Braves need right now. Molina may add some depth to their bullpen but doesn’t figure to have much fantasy value. 

 

Quick Hits

Reynaldo Lopez was placed on the 10_Day IL with a knee injury. He is expected to face just a minimum stay on the IL. JR Ritchie was recalled to take his spot on the roster. 

Andres Chaparro left Sunday’s game after being hit in the head with a pitch.

He reportedly passed concussion protocol. Consider him day-to-day for now.

 

Various News and Notes
Royce Lewis went 2-for-4 with a home run in the loss to the Mariners on Sunday.

Lewis is hitting .221/.300/.406 with 12 home runs and 10 stolen bases this season in 317 plate appearances. There is still a lot of potential in Lewis who has the ability to run and hit for power, but between his injury issues and inconsistent contact at the plate, it is hard to believe that he will ever deliver on the pedigree he had as a prospect. There are still reasons to buy in on him, but he is more of a lottery ticket than anything else in most leagues.

Joe Mack went 2-for-3 with a home run in the victory over the Mets.

Mack is hitting .245/.299/.449 with 11 home runs in 215 plate appearances. Mack has been pretty good since his callup, but he hasn’t brought the strong walk rates he had in the minors. He does make a good amount of contact and doesn’t swing outside of the zone too much so that should improve with time. There isn’t a ton of upside in the profile, but he is settling into a safe C2 role for fantasy which is great for deeper formats.

 

Streaming Pitchers (Under 50% in Yahoo)

Pitcher for Today: Brandon Pfaadt vs SD

Pfaadt has been great since rejoining the rotation from the minors and has a nice matchup at home. 

Other Options: Ian Seymour at COL, Bubba Chandler at MIL, Brandon Sproat vs PIT. 

Pitcher for Tomorrow: J.T. Ginn at CIN

Ginn has pitched great on the road and the Reds are not an offense you should run from. 

Other Options: Patrick Sandoval vs CHW, Hayden Wesneski vs TOR, Grant Holmes vs MIA, Sean Manaea at CLE, Brady Singer vs ATH.
