Roto Riteup: August 29, 2018

Could you Imagine if there were Bat Cats? That would be a disaster and a really dirty batters box.

On the Agenda:
1. Ailing A’s
2. Various News and Notes
3. Streaming Pitchers

Ailing A’s
Brett Anderson has been placed on the 10-Day DL with a forearm strain. This is a big loss for the A’s who also got word from Dr. ElAttrache that Sean Manaea has rotator cuff tendinitis. Manaea is out indefinitely with the shoulder issues and not losing Anderson hurts Oakland while they battle for a playoff spot. The A’s are calling up Daniel Mengden and Frankie Montas to fill the spots in their rotation, but one has to begin to wonder if they will tap top prospect Jesus Luzardo even though he has been unspectacular in AAA.

Various News and Notes
Michael Pineda will be shut down for the rest of the season after tearing his meniscus. Pineda was working his way back from Tommy John Surgery and was hoping to be added to the Major League roster once rosters expand in September. However, he will now have to undergo surgery for the knee injury most likely and will prepare for a return in 2019.

Forrest Whitley has been placed on the DL in the minor leagues with a lat injury. This ends any discussion of the Astros top pitching prospect coming up for the defending champs. Whitley has had a poor year marred by injury and a 50 game suspension earlier in the year. There is a ton of talent there though, so if there is an opportunity to buy low, then this may the last chance to do so.

Clayton Richard will undergo surgery on his left knee that will end his season. Richard had a couple of decent stretches this year, but was otherwise awful for the most part. He will likely be in the rotation next season for the rebuilding Padres.

Streaming Pitchers Options
A pitcher for today: None
Hail Mary Option: Alex Cobb vs TOR
Cobb has been better as of late with his change up having more life on it. It feels a bit like a flash in the pan, but he’s worth riding the hot streak against the Blue Jays if you’re chasing strikeouts. Over the month of August, he has 25 strikeouts to eight walks and a sub-2 ERA.

A pitcher for tomorrow: None
Hail Mary Options: Wade Miley @ CIN, John Gant vs PIT, Erasmo Ramirez @ OAK
Lots of lower end options to pick, but all have their warts.

Erasmo going today against SD rather than tomorrow against OAK, I assume that makes him an even better streamer.
