Closer Chaos

Riley O’Brien threw a scoreless ninth inning on Tuesday to get the save for the Cardinals against the Marlins.

Jojo Romero pitched the eighth inning in this one. It appears the Cardinals will go with a committee for now with O’Brien, Romero and Kyle Leahy sharing the role.

Quick Hits
Victor Robles was suspended 10-games after throwing his bat at an opposing pitcher. Robles had been hit five times in 15 plate appearances in the minors and lost his cool. He is appealing and begins serving the suspension upon being activated to the Majors.

Francisco Alvarez was placed on the IL with a sprained thumb. There is no timetable for his return but there is a chance he will return this season.

Various News and Notes
Kyle Teel went 2-for-5 with a home run in the loss to the Braves on Tuesday.

Teel is hitting .274/.363/.411 with four home runs and two stolen bases in 169 plate appearances. He is holding his own behind the plate and making enough contact at the plate. There is a bright future for the top prospect and he could take a big step forward in 2026.

Brenton Doyle went 1-for-4 with a home run in the loss to the Dodgers on Tuesday.

Doyle has struggled this season, hitting .238/.258/.381 with 12 home runs and 12-stolen bases this season. However, most of his underlying numbers are fine, but he has put the ball on the ground a bit too much. He has been extremely hot in the second half so it appears he has turned things around.

Jose Caballero went 2-for-4 with two home runs in the victory over the Rays on Tuesday.

Caballero had a huge night versus his old team and has been hot since being traded to the Yankees. He wont play everyday in New York, but he has five stolen bases in just 11 games played this month.

Streaming Pitchers (Under 50% in CBS)

Pitcher for Today: Cameron Schlitter at TB

Not the best matchup here but Schlitter has been great over his last three starts.

Other Options: Charlie Morton vs HOU, Colin Rea vs MIL, Nick Martinez at LAA, Brad Lord vs NYM, JT Ginn at MIN.

Pitcher for Tomorrow: Justin Verlander at SD

Verlander has been fantastic recently and has a good matchup in a good park.

Other Options: Michael Lorenzen vs TEX, Joe Boyle vs STL, Jack Perkins at MIN.

For those of you that would like to see how these picks play out, I have a doc I put together to track the stats from my recommended pitchers. It does not include the “Other Options.”
