Quick Hits

Adam Engel was placed on the IL with shoulder inflammation. There is no timetable for his return.

Jake Arrieta signed a one-year deal with the Padres. San Diego has some depth issues right now in the rotation so it makes sense they brought in an arm that can soak up innings. He doesn’t have any real fantasy viability right now.

Yoshi Tsutsugo signed a one year deal with the Pirates on Monday. Tsutsugo was released by the Dodgers and there was a report that he could go back to Japan, but he apparently found a Major League deal. He should get a fair amount of run in Pittsburgh.

Trey Mancini left Monday’s game with leg soreness. This sounds like it was precautionary. Consider him day-to-day at this time.

Yordan Alvarez left Monday’s game with a stomach bug. Consider him day-to-day for now.

Various News and Notes

Connor Joe went 2-for-4 with a home run in the victory over the Padres on Monday.

Joe has been really good in the second half, hitting .328 with seven home runs. The hot streak has been great and is likely unsustainable, but he is playing every day in Colorado which means he should be rostered in all formats.

Steven Brault threw 5.2 scoreless innings against the Dodgers, allowing just three hits and a walk while striking out four.

Brault was really good and efficient in this one, but the Pirates couldn’t give him any run support and the bullpen ended up giving up the game late. As Brault continues to get stretched out, he should offer more value, but pitching for the Pirates means he likely won’t offer him much in terms of win potential.

Streaming Pitchers (Under 50% in CBS)

Pitcher for Today: Tyler Anderson at TEX

There are a lot of great options today, but Anderson against an awful Rangers lineup is my favorite.

High Risk Options: Tanner Houck at NYY, J.T. Brubaker at LAD, Spencer Howard vs SEA, Dylan Bundy at DET, Daniel Lynch vs HOU, Bailey Ober vs CLE, Reynaldo Lopez vs OAK, Elijah Morgan at MIN.

Pitcher for Tomorrow: Ranger Suarez at ARI

Suarez has been going deeper into games so I am hoping this is the start he can go at least five. It is a great matchup too.

High Risk Options: Mike Foltynewicz vs SEA, Jesus Luzardo vs ATL.

For those of you that would like to see how these picks play out, I have a doc I put together to track the stats from the recommended pitchers. It does not include the “High Risk Options.”
