It’s 2017 and Jeremy Guthrie and Bronson Arroyo started on the bump for their teams. Quite a treat, right?

Not really.

Arroyo lasted only four innings in his first big league start since 2014. He allowed six hits, six runs, and three walks Saturday against the Cardinals.

News and Notes

Gary Sanchez has been placed on the 10-day disabled list according to Bryan Hoch of MLB.com

Yikes.

The call to Triple-A has already been made. Kyle Higashioka is already making his way to Baltimore to join the team Sunday in the series finale. Austin Romine will be getting a lot of the work behind the plate in Sanchez’s absence.

Romine had 62 games last season in a major league uniform. That’s all you really need to know. The few plate appearances he did have, he totaled a 33.3% fly ball rate which could be tempting at Camden Yards, but that place loves lefties and you should have little to no love for the 28-year old.

-Mike Scioscia wants to use Cam Bedrosian later in the game according to the Orange County Register. “We’ll use him in those high leverage situations later in the game, whether it’s a save situation or not.”

So we may not have to wait until the ninth inning to see him in action which is slightly irritating to think about for fantasy owners. Bedrosian had an impressive season in 2016 when he threw at an 11.38 K/9 rate and was split down the middle in fly ball and ground ball percentages. So far, it seems those numbers were almost too impressive, and he’s had nothing but positives this time around.

I see you Graveman

Oakland starter Kendall Graveman almost had a you-know-what. The 26-year-old had a no-hitter heading into the seventh inning against the Rangers Saturday night. That was until Mike Napoli broke it up after the second out of the inning.

Graveman still has two wins to his name on the season so far with a 2.08 and an 8.31 K/9 ratio and 12 strikeouts.

So far, so good.

Boston Red Sicks

It seems one guy after another in the Red Sox clubhouse managed to catch some kind of flu. Hanley Ramirez and Mookie Betts were the first to catch this illness. Teammates Robbie Ross Jr. and number one prospect Andrew Benintendi were the latest to catch this stomach flu. Benintendi was getting sick during the sixth inning on Saturday.

Ramirez continued to stay out of the lineup, so it doesn’t seem like this situation is a 24-hour bug. Wrap your guys in bubble wrap and cover them in disinfectant.
