Trades!

Closer Chaos

Jordan Romano threw a scoreless inning for the save on Tuesday. It is nice to see him back on the mound after dealing with an ankle sprain. He is one of few closers you can trust at this point.

Quick Hits

Brandon Nimmo is receiving a cortisone due to stiffness in his neck. Manager Buck Showalter stated that he hopes Nimmo will be ready for the Opening series, but these kinds of shots are hit and miss, so consider him day-to-day for now.

Greg Bird signed a minor league contract with the Yankees. Bird had a nice spring for the Blue Jays before not making the team, so he is a name to remember if the Yankees find a need for him during the season.

Pedro Severino has been suspended for 80 games after testing positive for a banned substance. It will be interesting to see if the Brewers make a move before the start of the season to address the backup catcher role.

Elieser Hernandez left Tuesday’s game with a forearm injury after being hit by a comebacker.

The Marlins later announced that he was diagnosed with a contusion, so consider him day-to-day for now.

Nate Pearson is dealing with mononucleosis. He is expected to be out for “a while” according to manager Charlie Montoyo. This doesn’t sound good and he already needed an injury to get into the rotation. It sounds like he is likely ticketed for the bullpen for this year.

Jorge Mateo left Tuesday’s game after being hit with a pitch on the hand. Consider him day-to-day for now.

Taijuan Walker left Tuesday’s start after allowing six runs in 1.3 innings. After the game he stated that he was struggling with some knee soreness during the outing.

Consider him day-to-day for now, but this is a bit concerning given his injury history.

Shogo Akiyama was released by the Reds on Tuesday. Akiyama has struggled since coming over to Major League Baseball, but has shown flashes of talent. He should get an opportunity somewhere in the Majors, but probably isn’t worth rostering in any size league at this point.

Various News and Notes

Bryson Stott has officially made the Phillies Opening Day roster.

Stott has looked great in spring, hitting .429/.529/.607 with one home run. He has a very nice hit tool, but the power is still developing and there isn’t a ton of speed in the profile. He could be a 15/10 guy with a good average in full playing time which has value in deeper formats.

Consider him day-to-day for now, but this is a bit concerning given his injury history.

Streaming Pitchers (Under 50% in CBS)

Pitcher for Today: Coming Soon!

High Risk Options: Coming Soon!

Pitcher for Tomorrow: Madison Bumgarner vs SD

Bumgarner has looked good in spring and has a matchup versus a Padres team missing its best player in Tatis.

High Risk Options: JT Brubaker at STL

Brubaker likely won’t be in line for a win because he pitches for the Pirates, but there are only two pitchers on Opening Day that quality and he is the one I feel worse about than MadBum.

For those of you that would like to see how these picks play out, I have a doc I put together to track the stats from the recommended pitchers. It does not include the “High Risk Options.”

Apparently Pearson will be out at least 2-4 weeks with possibly fatigue for months afterwards
