Sleeper and the Bust DK Contest

On most Tuesday’s and Friday’s and some other days, Paul Sporer and I will be doing a $5 draftkings game for anyone that is interested.

Quick Hits

Wil Myers was placed on the IL with an illness. There is no timetable for his return.

Aaron Judge left Thursday’s game with a hip issue.

Judge didn’t sound too worried about it after the game, so hopefully he should be back soon. Consider him day-to-day at this time.

Kerry Carpenter left Thursday’s game with a shoulder injury after this play:

He is expected to undergo further testing on Friday. Consider him day-to-day at this time.

Tyler Mahle left Thursday’s start with an elbow issue. He is expected to undergo further testing in the next couple of days. Consider him day-to-day at this time, but this does not sound good.

Various News and Notes
Brandon Drury went 2-for-5 with a home run in the victory over the A’s.

Drury started off the year terribly, but has been red hot this week. Nothing like a series against the A’s to get you right. He was dropped in a number of shallower leagues and should be picked up to ride this hot streak.

Paul DeJong went 2-for-4 with a home run in the victory over the Cardinals.

DeJong has been on fire since coming off the IL, hitting .471/.471/.941 with two home runs in 17 plate appearances. He is eating into the playing time of Bredan Donovan right now, but I do not expect this to continue for long. DeJong has a history of hot streaks, but the strikeouts always come back to haunt him. Ride the hot streak for now, but get ready for the regression around the corner.

Joey Ortiz made his Major League debut on Thursday, going 1-for-4 with three RBIs in the victory over the Tigers.

Ortiz is an interesting prospect with a pretty good hit tool and some speed. He is a defensive wizard that could find himself playing regularly if he can make enough contact. He is best reserved for AL Only and deep mixed leagues right now, but someone to watch.

Miles Mikolas threw 6.1 scoreless innings on Thursday, allowing four hits and two walks while striking out six in the victory over the Giants.

Mikolas struggled in his first three starts, but he has been better in his last three, allowing five earned runs in 17.1 innings. In this outing, he did a good job of inducing weak contact and getting whiffs on his slider. I am not ready to trust him every time out, but I am definitely using him in good matchups.

Brett Baty 3-for-3 with a home run in the victory over Nationals on Thursday.

Baty is hitting .321/.387/.464 with a home run since his call up. He is platooning right now, but he should get more and more opportunities to prove himself as he continues to hit well. If he is not rostered in every format, that is a mistake.

Streaming Pitchers (Under 50% in CBS)

Pitcher for Today: None

Some interesting higher risk options, but none that I feel really good about.

High Risk Options: Tyler Anderson at MIL, Nick Pivetta vs CLE, Rich Hill at WAS.

Pitcher for Tomorrow:  Vince Velasquez vs WAS

This could definitely backfire, but Washington is terrible and Velasquez has pitched well.

High Risk Options: Matthew Boyd vs BAL, Dean Kremer at DET.

For those of you that would like to see how these picks play out, I have a doc I put together to track the stats from my recommended pitchers. It does not include the “High Risk Options.”
