Sonny Gray made his Triple-A rehab outing Thursday night and he did fairly well. He was on a 75-pitch assignment with the Nashville Sounds and tossed six shutout innings and issued seven strikeouts with no walks and two hits.

He’s on his way to joining the team as early as Tuesday when they take on the Minnesota Twins. The word on this particular injury has to do with the fact that there could be more underlying issues in his shoulder. So proceed with caution.

  2. Taijuan Walker
  3. Eaton it up
  4. Probably Pitchers

News and Notes

Shelby Miller has been diagnosed with a torn UCL and is currently weighing his options on whether or not he wants to undergo Tommy John surgery.

Miller was on his way to a bounce-back season and was making strides. He added velocity on to his pitches and raised his strikeout percentage.

Gary Sanchez will begin rehab Tuesday following a bicep strain at the beginning of the month. He’s rapidly approaching the assignment and is already throwing from 120-feet. He will be playing for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Tuesday.

Didi Gregorius will be activated from the D.L. Friday coming back from a shoulder strain. Ronald Torreyes will head back to Triple-A

2. Taijuan Walker

Taijuan Walker had a strong outing against the Padres Thursday night.

He allowed just four hits without issuing a walk. He stands at a 3.94 ERA in five starts with a 9.14 K/9 rating and is staying his normal self across his flyball/groundball ratios.

He does face the Nationals in his next outing and there are quite a few guys he will need to pitch around. It’s at Nationals Park which is unbelievably neutral in the run-scoring perspective and when Daniel Murphy makes contact at home, the ball flies. After this outing, we can have a better vision of the type of pitcher we are getting out of him with the Diamondbacks this season.

Eaton it up

Speaking of Nationals.

Another guy Walker will have to worry about pitching to is Adam Eaton. Eaton went 2-for-4 with a double, a home run, two walks, two RBI and three runs during Thursday’s win over the Rockies. And I’m obsessed with him.

He’s slashing a .280/.375/.415 line with a .348 wOBA and he’s also raised his walk rate. He’s maintained his OPS numbers over the years, but he’s been more patient in the box this season.

Probable Pitchers for April 28, 2017

Max Scherzer vs. New York Mets

Kevin Gausman vs. New York Yankees

Marcus Stroman (always) vs. Tampa Bay Rays

Chase Anderson vs. Atlanta Braves

Eaton’s plate discipline numbers look much different. More patient indeed, with a 13.7% BB% far outpacing his career 8.7%. If he keeps this up, he’s going to score 110+ runs easy.

I’m seeing his triple slash at .291/.392/.465 though, is that just from last evening’s numbers not being included yet?

Nope. Your triple slash #’s are correct. The ones in the article are not updated with the results of yesterday’s game.
